In addition to US and other Allied aircraft shot down by North Korea and China or by Soviet pilots flying in North Korean-marked fighter planes in combat during the Korean War, a number of them were downed by Soviet fighters and air defense units during this time, with US aircrew members killed or captured. The fate of many of them is still unknown today as they were either killed or captured and remained in the USSR, presumably for their military and technical knowledge and information.
