What does Goring think of Churchill as just a figure head, some sort of fat, jovial, bumpkin
That letter is a last ditch appeal, and done properly. What else would they do? Beg Churchill's handlers to be nice? To me it looks like the words of someone who believes Churchill is owned, but hopes himself wrong. All they can do is treat Churchill as a leader and give him one last chance.

Why not try?

Imagine if someone could get through to Bush, and he gave a speech tomorrow and condemned "israel" for it's crimes? No, it's not going to happen, but even as a figurehead he could at least throw things into chaos. Imagine him deviating from the lines on the teleprompter.

This is off the subject but I wonder what would happen next? I imagine the big networks would start reporting that he'd had a stroke or something. "The president is not well!"

Anyway, point is, who else is Goring going to contact? The jews? Hess tried to go over Churchill's head, aryan-wise, but that didn't work out.
