I enjoyed Jane Austen very much myself back when I read her. Austen aside though, marriage is a bit of a bad deal these days considering no fault divorce and contract liabilities, i.e. the marriage contract itself, especially if you have a stay at home wife/mother who then pretty much owns a piece of your productivity forever, when she can just get bored and tank the whole endeavor about the time the heavy lifting is over and the child enters the school system.
In the present debased American culture I vote have children but don't sign on for marriage for reasons that it gives a potentially very unfriendly state leverage over you. Keep the state's leverage against you to a minimum.
