Just to make myself clear: I think that Social Security was a disaster(despite the fact that the Germans pioneered it) because it disrupted the contract between the generations. In all previous human history(at least civilized Western man) the parents took care of the children and expected to be taken care of them in turn when they reached old age. With the advent of the welfare state children became simply a burden and parental irresponsibility became a commonplace , if no the norm.
