Bosnian Serb PM criticizes NATO on interfering

Apr 28, 2010

Bosnian Serb leader, Milorad Dodik, accused NATO on Tuesday of interfering in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), reported the Croatian news agency HINA.

Dodik, the prime minister of Republika Srpska, the Serb- dominated entity of BiH, said that NATO’s precondition for BiH joining the military alliance’s Membership Action Plan (MAP) required that ownership of military property in the country be transferred to the state level.

“We can not agree that any property be given to anyone at the level of BiH,” Dodik told reporters in Banja Luka.

At issue is how to determine who owns the military property of the former Yugoslav republic. Dodik’s government steadfastly insists that ownership should be at the entity level, with the use of properties extended to the military.

Dodik went further saying that NATO was, in effect, attempting to force through constitutional changes that had been rejected earlier.

“Not one of these changes will occur either before or after the election,” said Dodik. Elections are scheduled for October in BiH.
