STOCKHOLM -- The Swedish government is due today to take a final decision on granting parole to former Republic of Srpska President Biljana Plavšić

“It’s on the government’s agenda,” a spokesman for the Swedish Justice Ministry told FoNet. According to the TT agency, Plavšić has already been transferred to a prison cell in Stockholm ahead of her release.

The Hague Tribunal approved the former RS president’s parole on September 15 given that on October 24 she will have served two-thirds of her sentence.

However, the final decision for parole rests with the Swedish government.

Plavšić was convicted to genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes against Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1991-92, as well as violating the Geneva Convention.

She turned herself in to the Hague Tribunal in January 2001, and, in October 2002, pleaded guilty to persecution of Muslims and Croats in 37 Bosnian municipalities in 1992. She was sentenced to eleven years in prison in 2003.
