On January 27, the ISS-49/50 crew began training as part of Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Andrei Borisenko, American astronaut Robert Kimbro.

Within 48 hours the crew practiced the operations necessary for survival in case of abnormal landing of the descent vehicle. During this time, the cosmonauts carried out changing clothes in heat-shield suits and actions related to the "construction" of temporary housing, gained experience in providing medical assistance and interaction with search and rescue services. They built the necessary shelters, prepared enough firewood to support the fire at night. In addition, during the "winter survival" they worked out the skills of interaction with each other in an extreme situation.

4:26 - The pilot says that now he can not take them and asks them to hold out until the morning.

5:00 - The pilot says that he found a platform suitable for evacuation of the crew and asks them to go there.

5:30 - One of the crew members "broke" the hand.

6:17 - The crew was congratulated on the successful completion of the training.

The crew consisted of cosmonauts of Roskosmos Alexander Samokutyaev and Elena Serova, NASA astronaut Barry Wilmore. The Soyuz TMA-14M landed in a specified area 147 km southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan (Kazakhstan).

The launch pad is the last step before the space. The success of a stellar mission depends on hundreds of people: from the refueling of a rocket to those who press the start button.

Talking Krikalev?

Where mentioned my favorite living Russian Cosmonaut, Sergei Krikalev (all smiles being carried away by medics and specialists after returning from a mission)

As far as I understood there were two types of cosmonauts: military pilots and civilian experts. The video shows military pilots. But Sergei Krikalev was a cosmonaut from the eighth team (1985) of the KOROLEV ROCKET AND SPACE CORPORATION "ENERGIA".

In December 2010, two branches of the cosmonauts were united in one detachment.

Sergei Krikalev has had a colorful spaceflight career. In December 1991 he was aboard the Mir space station when the Soviet Union dissolved and returned to a new country--the Russian Federation. In December 1998 during the STS-88 mission aboard space shuttle Endeavour, he and NASA astronaut Robert Cabana were the first to enter the 'Unity' module of the new International Space Station.

Krikalev is now vice-president of RKK Energia and administrator of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Cabana is now director of Kennedy Space Center.

Krikalev is also a time-traveler, having aged about 1 second longer than Earthbound humans due to the time-dilation effect orbiting Earth, and is the third-most-travelled spacefarer in history, with 804 days in space.

Cool Gagarin ...and Komorov

And, of course my number one Russian space hero Yuri Gagarin the first human to travel to space and back to earth safely

Here he is shown hunting in Russia with buddy and fellow cosmonaut Vlad Komorov (another outstanding cosmonaut) who was literally burned to a crisp on a failed re-entry in 1967

Space exploration is risky business and no matter what your political persuasion you have to admit the astronauts and cosmonauts of the 1960's had huge balls.

What was left of Komarov after his spacecraft smashed back into earth displayed in open casket so Russians ...in particular, space crew ...could fully appreciate the risky nature of the space venture their country was invested in.

Some say Gagarin changed after the death of buddy Komorov and the USSR's subsequent effort to cover up the reasons why it happened.

Yuri Gagarin died soon after Komorov in 1968 while flying a MiG 15 over a small airfield near Moscow, so we never got to know either of these guys in middle and old age where they likely would have told fantastic stories of man's first steps into space and the people who took them.

"I see no god up here ..." Yuri Gagarin to ground control during spaceflight.

На здоровье y'all!

8:48 - (The cosmonaut gives the priest an Orthodox icon that was with him in space.)

9:42 - They are asked: How many experiments have you done?
They answer: We did more than 200 experiments.

10:27 - On the example of our crew, politicians should learn how to live peacefully together.

The guys of Expedition 42/43 were lucky enough to have two lovely ladies aboard--Elena Serova, fourth Russian woman in space and Italian ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. Serova is now a member of the Russian state Duma.

Some of my other favorite female astronauts:

Pamela Melroy

Marsha Ivins

Bad girl Lisa Nowak (not really)

And of course Valentina Tereshkova, first woman in space

Call sign Tereshkova during the flight was Seagull.

In connection with the 55th anniversary of the flight (June 16, 1963) Tereshkova was congratulated by the leaders of Roscosmos and the cosmonauts in orbit.

1:26 - My heart trembled only when I talked with my mom. I flew over the Volga, my native river, on which I grew up. And when I spoke with my mother, my voice trembled even though I needed to tell her comforting words. She became a widow at 26 with three children. We could not say where we are going and we gave a subscription about the non-disclosure of secrecy. And my mom thought that I was taken to the second national team in the parachute sport.

Then my mother told me "You deceived me." I will never forget this. I said, "Mom, forgive me."

3:32 - John Glenn flew into space when he was 77 years old.
Once they told me:
"Shut up!
We have already lost Gagarin.
Shut up!"

But I would like once again to fly into space and then I would calm down.
