How a six-letter word has opened a debate about lederhosen and Nazis in German politics
How a six-letter word has opened a debate about lederhosen and Nazis in German politics
Is the creation of a “Heimat” Ministry a sincere attempt to deepen emotional links between politics and the electorate - or does a more sinister impulse lie behind it? Is it about lederhosen, bratwurst and beer? Will it stir a healthy patriotism? Or does it hark back to the darkest chapter of German history by championing nationalism and excluding minorities? A new "Heimat", or homeland, ministry to be launched Wednesday by Chancellor Angela Merkel's new government has left Germans deeply divided. Some have poked fun at the term, which can evoke Alpine vistas and black forest cake, on new "Heimat" Twitter accounts that recommend "plain German fare" with "a chilled beer". https://www.thelocal.de/20180312/how...erman-politics |

"Heimat" means "home" or "homeland." The (((government))) of the BRD wants to abolish "Vaterland" from the current German national anthem and elsewhere since they believe it encourages a resurgence of National Socialism. It sounds to me like Comrade Merkel is taking a cue from the KWA's Homeland Security Department, so a new Stasi-like agency is planned. There are still plenty of ex-DDR Stasi scum in Germany Merkel can hire for it, too. It'll be just like old times for her.
