A HOPE not hate investigation reveals that Cllr Andy Weatherhead, who represents Hythe West on Kent County Council, was a senior officer for the openly fascist New British Union (NBU).

We can reveal that Cllr Weatherhead:

Wrote an antisemitic blog attacking the “Jewish-controlled media”
Helped to formulate the avowedly fascist and anti-democracy policies of the NBU
Attended a rally in support of the violent Golden Dawn movement
In 2019, Weatherhead changed his name from Andrew Beadle, under which he had taken a senior role in the NBU, an attempted revival of Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists. Weatherhead went on to run for UKIP four times before eventually landing in the Conservative Party...

Britain didn’t have to get involved. Churchill on a few occasions scuppered a peace deal. It didn’t have to happen.

Kent Tory councillor responds over historical fascist connections and blackshirt pictures

Cllr Weatherhead has responded in a statement released to KentLive. He claimed he became aware of the New British Union “whilst undertaking research” on Oswald Mosley and his political concept in 2012 or 2013.

He said he felt the concept “very much echoed the political body that he saw had evolved into the European Union”. He said: “Therefore, to try and learn more about this political concept I contacted the then newly created NBU and became aware of their leader Gary Raikes.”

Cllr Weatherhead attempted to defend his involvement with the NBU and said that at the time the group “was not a registered political party and had no defined membership”. He added: “To the best of my knowledge, the NBU has never been proscribed or outlawed.”

Cllr Weatherhead attended two in-person events - one a meeting in Bedfordshire, and a rally in London. He claimed he did this to introduce himself and discuss policies.
