Former top RS police officials found guilty Source: Tanjug THE HAGUE -- Two former high-ranking police officials from the Serb Republic (RS) entity in Bosnia have been found guilty of war crimes by the Hague Tribunal. Stanišić and Župljanin are seen in the Hague courtroom (Beta/AP) Mico Stanišić and Stojan Župljanin, were indicted for war crimes against non-Serb civilians in Bosnia-Herzegovina committed between April and December 1992, and were sentenced on Wednesday to 22 years in prison each. The presiding judge said Stanišić and Župljanin had done nothing to prevent or punish the crimes although they were in the position to do so. Stanišić was the first RS interior minister, while Župljanin was the head of the regional centre for security agencies in Banja Luka, a member of the Krajina Autonomous Region crisis centre and RS president's adviser on internal affairs. They were accused of participating in a joint criminal enterprise to remove Muslims, Croats and other non-Serbs from the territory of the planned Serb state. Other former officials accused are Momcilo Krajišnik, Radovan Karadžić, Biljana Plavišić and General Ratko Mladić. Stanišić turned himself over to the Hague in March 2005, while Župljanin was arrested and extradited in June 2008. The prosecution requested life sentences for both men.
