If the Thirty Years' War hadn't happened, Europe would have a much larger population today . .
Is it just me or was the Thirty Years' War one of the first disasters in European history ? Especially in Germany. . On the surface it was a war about religion yet it is widely acknowledged that political intentions also played a role. . Instead of standing united as one block Europe began fighting among itself. . . Germans against Germans , foreigners against Germans etc . . You may wonder why I bring this up. . After all World Wars 1 and 2 were much more disastrous. . I mention it for one reason . . It kind of marked the date when Europeans began fighting each other. . All of Europe was depopulated by about 1/3th during the time of the war. . The sad thing about it is that , even after the war , things pretty much remained the same. . Politically that is . It was a useless bloodshed. . It kind of paved the way for future events though such as the rise of Prussia etc . . Images from the war. . |
