Question Sydney, French riots reflect cultural, not racial, problem

The Australian

Cut & paste: Sydney, French riots reflect cultural, not racial, problem

December 21, 2005

Mark Steyn, in The Daily Telegraph in London, on the failure of Muslims to assimilate into Western society

WHAT'S the deal with these riots in Sydney? You switch on the television and there are scenes of urban conflagration and you think, "Hang on, I saw this story last month." But no. They were French riots. These are Australian riots. Entirely different. The French riots were perpetrated by – what's the word? – "youths". The Australian riots were perpetrated by "white youths". Same age cohort, but adjectivally enhanced . . .

There are no doubt "white racists" down under, but, as an explanation of what's going on, it's almost quaintly absurd. "People of Middle Eastern background" have prospered in Australia.

The Governor of NSW, Marie Bashir, is Lebanese, as is her husband, Nicholas Shehadie, as is the premier of Victoria, Steve Bracks. Likewise, in my own state of New Hampshire, one of the least racially diverse jurisdictions in North America, the last Senate race was nevertheless fought between a Republican, John Sununu, and a Democrat, Jeanne Shaheen, both from Lebanese families.

All these successful politicians are of Lebanese Christian stock: that's to say, after a third of a century in their new countries, they weren't conversing with reporters in Arabic. It's not racial, it's cultural. And the cries of "Racist!" are intended to make any discussion of that cultural problem beyond the pale.

In that sense, Sydney's beach riots are a logical sequel to what happened in France. From opposite ends of the planet, there are nevertheless many similarities: non-Muslim women are hectored and insulted in the streets of both Clichy-sous-Bois and Brighton-le-Sands. The only difference is that, in Oz, the "white youths" decided to have a go back.

These days, whenever something goofy turns up on the news, chances are it involves a fellow called Mohammed. A plane flies into the World Trade Centre? Mohammed Atta. A gunman shoots up the El Al counter at Los Angeles airport? Hesham Mohamed Hedayet. A sniper starts killing petrol station customers around Washington, DC? John Allen Muhammed. A guy fatally stabs a Dutch movie director? Mohammed Bouyeri. A terrorist slaughters dozens in Bali? Noordin Mohamed. A gang-rapist in Sydney? Mohammed Skaf. Maybe all these Mohammeds are victims of Australian white racists and American white racists and Dutch white racists and Balinese white racists and Beslan schoolgirl white racists.

But the eagerness of the Aussie and British and Canadian and European media, week in, week out, to attribute each outbreak of an apparently universal phenomenon to strictly local factors is starting to look pathological. "Violence and racism are bad" (as Cate Blanchett put it at Coogee Beach last Friday), but so is self-delusion.

Prime Minister John Howard, on the Nine Network's Today program yesterday:

QUESTION: A poll conducted by The Sydney Morning Herald suggests that 75 per cent of Australians disagree with you when you say that there's no underlying racism in this country . . .

Howard: I don't think (that poll) quite means what it appears on the surface. At the same time as that poll there was a poll that said 81 per cent of people supported multiculturalism and a majority of people thought that our present migrant intake was about right. Now if there is underlying racism in Australia, I find it har to believe that 81 per cent of the population would support multiculturalism – the two things don't sit together.

Multiculturalism means a lot of things, different things to different people, but in its lowest common denominator it means that people believe in diversity and are therefore tolerant of racial and ethnic difference. So if 81 per cent of the population is tolerant and supportive of ethnic and racial difference, then you can't simultaneously have underlying racism . . .

There are some people in the Australian community who are racist, but I do not believe the average Australian is a racist, I do not believe that the majority of Australians are racist. I mean why would we have accepted people so well? Why do we practise every day our tolerance and our respect for people?

It is very important as we go through the difficulty of reacting to these events that we don't overreact. It's very important we don't become too self-critical. It's very important we don't lose any of the confidence that we've had as an outward-looking nation because we are the most successful role model around the world of absorbing people from different parts of the world.

No one seems yet to have posted this opinion piece from the Sydney Morning Herald on how the authorities are continuing to vigorously pursue whites for thought crimes but are giving the Lebanese Muslims a pass.

FORGET Clover Moore as the Grinch of Sydney's Christmas. The "Lions of Lebanon" with their Glock pistols and Molotov cocktails have put her to shame this holy season. While the NSW police lock down entire beachfront suburbs, instruct stores to stop selling baseball bats, and apply the full force of the law to pasty-faced nerds with a taste for Nazi literature, they continue to cower from the real hardmen, the Lebanese-Australian criminal gangs of Sydney's south-west who have ruled the roost in this city for at least a decade and now number in their thousands.
So when parents and children attending Christmas carols on Monday night, December 12, at St Joseph the Worker Primary School in South Auburn were abused and spat on by "young men of Middle Eastern appearance", there were no police to protect them. Not even when the sounds of gunshots echoed inside the church, and parked cars were pumped full of bullets. "Police were called by a number of parents and the principal, but they were unable to attend because they were needed elsewhere," said Cardinal George Pell in a statement.
The police were busy that night - Sydney's mini Kristallnacht "night of the broken glass" - as carloads of men drove east from Lakemba and Punchbowl to systematically attack whole streets of parked cars with bats and machetes. Identified by police as being of the proverbial Middle-Eastern appearance - code for Lebanese Muslim, despite the fact many are second-generation Australians - they also stabbed a man, smashed a woman's head with a bat, attacked another woman in a pizza shop and a man who was putting out his rubbish.
They were extracting revenge for the riot the day before on Cronulla beach when a protest against continuing intimidation of beachgoers by thugs described as Lebanese turned ugly and drunken racists attacked passers-by suspected of being "Lebs".

The retaliation from the gangs of the south-west was a calculated show of strength, with victims reportedly being asked if they were "Australian" before being attacked. Over the next 24 hours another three churches in Sydney's south-west were attacked.

With police unable to guarantee safety, Holy Spirit College at Lakemba cancelled its carols service. Other schools in the south-west cancelled concerts and end-of-year presentations or hired security guards.

Thus the lead-up to Christmas this year has been notable for a rash of cancellations of traditional yuletide activities. The North Cronulla surf carnival was called off. As was the Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club's annual Christmas cheer party, and a carols concert expected to draw 3000 people to Coogee beach.
(...)
The roots of the problem can be traced back to Telopea Street, Punchbowl, in 1998 when a Korean schoolboy, Edward Lee, 14, was stabbed to death because he went to the wrong house for a birthday party and looked at the wrong people in the wrong way. He didn't know that a notorious group of extended Lebanese-Muslim families, descended from the lawless hill tribes of Northern Lebanon, lived in Telopea Street.

When police arrived they were surrounded and intimidated by about 100 people. For two years they seemed incapable of solving the crime, despite at least 20 witnesses.

Lee's mother, Soobin, searching for clues to the death of her only child, went doorknocking in Telopea Street and the inhabitants laughed in her face. His father took to sleeping on top of his son's grave and weeping.

Eventually a youth, who was 15 at the time of the stabbing, was charged with Lee's killing. In 2003, the youth, who had said "f---ing Asian deserved it" after the stabbing, was sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in jail. His friend, now-jailed triple murderer Michael Kanaan, received a three-year sentence for being an accessory after the fact.

But Lee's killing had brought unwanted police attention to Telopea Street's criminal activities, which included drugs and car rebirthing rackets. Soon Lakemba police station was attacked with machine-gun fire, death threats were made to police on their radio network and a police car was shot at as it travelled down Telopea Street. Kanaan was acquitted this year of the attack on the police station, which prosecutors said was to teach police a lesson for "hassling Lebanese people". An alleged accomplice skipped bail and was arrested in Lebanon on terrorism charges. No one has been brought to justice over the attack.

The police commissioner of the time, Peter Ryan, talked tough and did little.

Seven years later, the police are still running scared.

Last week, Channel Seven reported it had obtained a police incident report instructing police officers to stay away from Punchbowl Park that Monday night, where a group of men were congregating before heading to Maroubra.

The report said "a direction was given to police about midnight not to enter the area and antagonise these persons".
The Police Minister, Carl Scully, told reporters he defended the decision not to confront the group. Superintendent John Richardson was quoted saying a car crew sent to Punchbowl Park, where 10 cars and 40 men had gathered, was "ordered to withdraw and observe from afar. There was no trouble and sending police in would only cause trouble."

Setting the example of an astonishing lack of nerve, the Premier, Morris Iemma, told Sydneysiders to stay away from the beach for safety and then cancelled his Christmas media reception which had been scheduled for last Wednesday night. He appeared in every media appearance like a rabbit frozen in the spotlight, perhaps frightened of alienating Lebanese Muslims in his electorate of Lakemba.

That Iemma's electorate is at war with former premier Bob Carr's former electorate of Maroubra is a handy synchronicity. It highlights the ALP's long-term culpability in creating the monster that is plaguing the city, its history of ethnic branch-stacking and "whatever it takes" tactics to shore up support in the heartland electorates of the south-west, its policy of spin and cover-up which is at last coming undone.

As one passenger last week told taxi driver Adrian Neylan, who has chronicled the violence on his weblog, "the gangs have won".

Indeed they have, but the recent display of official cowardice in the face of the criminal gangs of Sydney's south-west is just a taste of the way Sydney has been run for a decade.

Thumbs down Reptiles in the NSW ALP

It just goes to show how dishonourable and unfit for office Iemma and his Mafia ALP Government are.

How can you be all that surprised?

Nobody here on VNN has been surprised that the police VIGOROUSLY cracked down on angry whites defending themselves...

but were SOMEHOW UNABLE to protect white Australians from Lebanese "retribution."

Australian authorities, like it or not, are more interested in closing the beaches keeping whites from organizing than they are protecting the general populace.

The Australian government will refuse to stop the Lebanese terror.

They are more interested in stoping whitey so Howard can let in millions more Lebanese and Asians. You are not protected. They no longer represent you.

If you are from the city of Kennewick, State of Washington, USA, then surely you would appreciate that the Local, State, and Federal Governments have different responsibilities.

The New South Wales State Government Police Service is responsible for the lawlessness of the lebanese gangs of criminals.

Nothing to do with the Australian Government.

Immigration, however, is indeed a Federal Government responsibility.

However these two governments are run by opposing political parties, so it is difficult to make a connection between these two issues, as the policy of one government.

What a lot of Australians DO NOT KNOW is that the Labor party in Australia (Labor - left wing, socialist roots, many marxists, leninists, trots) is strongly anti-white Australian.

Speeches by the ex prime minister Gough Whitlam on the occassion of his 80th birthday celebrations indicate his racism and his powerful desire to see white Australia transcended by coloreds. Mark Latham is also anti-white, so is Kim Beazly (made a similar anti-white speech on the same occassion). Marie Bashir was only appointed to the position of governor of the state because she is NON-WHITE. The previous governor was a jew. Morris Iemma, the current premier of the state is a WOG, Michael Costa is a WOG and many other leading Labor people in NSW and in VIC are WOGs. (WOG is Westernized Oriental Gentleman or another way of saying a colored).

Many in the Labor party, both state and federal believe that white people are beginning to migrate out of Australia, or are being outnumbered in the cities by coloreds.

Don't misunderstand me - I am not saying the Liberal Party is pristine clean on this same racial matter. They have plenty of white-haters too. As evidenced by their immigration policies. They are currently importing huge numbers of Africans, mostly from Somalia. They would have to be the most useless people on the planet.

Watch Labor's and the Liberal party's policies on immigration. Listen carefully to what they say. They are racist scum and hate us.

Classic kike/cowardly kwanservative argument:

'Non-whites riot. The liberals blame white racism. But it's not white racists, because, as these one or two exceptions to the rule 'prove' (in vastly different conditions - New Hampshire is not Paris!), the problem is not race it's KULTCHA'.

Bullshit. Classic Humean scepticism about events; break something down into its parts, and see them as bundles of separate but related facts, rather than as derivations of a single concept. The concept is race, or even simple tribalism, of which race is a primal (because physical) example. The main derivation of the concept here is - flooding a living space of one tribe with foreigners causes problems (a RACE problem, fuck-all to do with the revolver-reaching word 'kultur'). Comparing New Hampshire and Paris is retarded in the extreme.

Raimoondoggie's article on inflaming Muslims is similar: 'The cartoons inflame Muslims. This benefits the Zionists, who benefit from Muslim rage. But who it REALLY benefits is Bin Laden, because he benefits from Zionist manipulation of Muslim rage. Therefore: fuck the Zionists, but you can't call me a bad boy 'cos I said it REALLY benefits Bin Laden.'

What bullshit! There are more circles in this line of reasoning than there are in Dante's Hell.
