Boten Anna by Basshunter is a really great song:

Quote:
"Boten Anna" ("Anna the Bot") is a song by Swedish eurodance musician Basshunter, from his first studio album, LOL. Following the single's release in 2006, Basshunter gained popularity in his native Sweden, as well as Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Poland and the Netherlands.
(...)
The Swedish lyrics of "Boten Anna" tell the story of a female IRC bot by the vocalist who later finds out the truth; subsequently, however, he states that she will always remain a bot in his eyes. The song is based on an actual experience of Basshunter. His friend said he would create a bot with administrative capabilities to keep order in his channel, #BassHunter.se; when this happened Jonas saw a new user with administrative capabilities named "Anna" enter the channel, and naturally thought this was the bot. Months later, he learned that Anna was actually not a bot, but was his friend's girlfriend; the embarrassment, he says, inspired him to create the song.[citation needed]

Boten Anna

Jag känner en bot
Hon heter Anna, Anna heter hon
Hon röjer upp i våran kanal

Hon heter Anna, Anna heter hon
Hon röjer upp i våran kanal

(Ready for take off)

(Are you ready?)

Hon heter Anna, Anna heter hon
Hon röjer upp i våran kanal

Here's my English translation of the excellent lyrics:

I know a bot,
Her name is Anna, Anna is her name
And she can ban, ban you so hard
She cleans up in our channel
I want to tell you that I know a bot

I know a bot,
Her name is Anna, Anna is her name
And she can ban, ban you so hard
She cleans up in our channel

I want to tell you that I know a bot
That always watches everyone here
And makes sure that nobody bothers us
There is no take-over that succeeds
Remember that I'm the one who knows a bot

A bot that nobody else can beat
And she kicks even if she shouldn't
She gets rid of everyone that spams
Yes, nobody can beat our bot

(Ready for take off)

(Are you ready?)

And then came the day I didn't think was real
The channel was really put out of balance
I never thought I would be so wrong
But Anna wrote and said
"I'm not a bot,
I'm a very, very beautiful girl"
Who is now unfortunately alien to me
But nothing needs to be explained
Because to me she'll always be a bot

Her name is Anna, Anna is her name
And she can ban, ban you so hard
She cleans up in our channel

I want to tell you that I know a bot
That always watches everyone here
And makes sure that nobody bothers us
There is no take-over that succeeds
Remember that I'm the one who knows a bot

A bot that no one else can beat
And she kicks even if she shouldn't
She gets rid of everyone that spams
Yes, nobody can beat our bot

Despite the esoteric subject of the lyrics, the song was well received by mainstream media, albeit the word bot was frequently mistaken for boat - the Swedish word bot ("bot") is commonly pronounced almost the same as båt ("boat") in the dialect spoken by Altberg (Basshunter). The double meaning of the word kanal — which can refer to an IRC channel, as well as a canal, added to the confusion.[citation needed]

The video to the song deliberately plays on double meanings. It shows Basshunter riding a sightseeing pedal boat down the Malmö City Canal. The "A" on the boat is merely a marking to differentiate from other loaned pedal boats in the canal.[citation needed]

Here's the awesome video in question:

I've never really considered myself a Basshunter fan because most of his songs are mediocre, but Boten Anna is brilliant, and I can totally see why it made him famous.

Interesting style. Since we're now posting synth music from the 1980s, I'll contribute with my favorite songs from Camouflage. Yes, I know, their English skills aren't perfect, but honestly, who cares? They're still awesome.

Camouflage - The Great Commandment (Best quality)
Thanks, Stewart.

Not familiar with that one. Here is another of that genre.

Going back to high school days.

Okay, here's one more song by Basshunter: Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA, also known as DotA. Yes, the song is crap (unlike Boten Anna which is excellent) and the lyrics are absurd, so absurd that even the vast majority of Swedes had no idea what the guy was babbling about due to the geekish computer terms like "venten" and "DotA", and ridiculous Swenglish words like "creepa" and "sleepa".

But still...there's something about it that appeals to me. I guess it's one of those craptastic, "so bad it's good" experiences.

Anyway, here it is:

Some trivia about the video:

The woman who plays Basshunter's mom is his real-life mom.

At the 3:31 mark somebody in the audience is holding up a sign that says Vadå båt?, which means "What do you mean, a boat?". This refers to many listeners' confusion of the Swedish lyrics in Boten Anna who mistook the word boten ("the bot") for båten ("the boat").

And here's something you won't find on Wikipedia: At the 3:45 mark a guy in the audience is holding up a sign that says "asshunter.se", which is the now-defunct website of the music artist Asshunter who used to make parody versions of Basshunter's songs.

The man behind this funny project is the prolific and talented songwriter and music producer - and Basshunter's fellow Swede - Perrra (although that's not him in the picture). I've posted two of his excellent Eurodance songs in this thread.

So now you know.

Oh, what the hell, let's continue with Basshunter. Here's his song Now You're Gone, which is an English-language version of his smash hit Boten Anna:

And a couple of Nightcore versions:

The Great Commandment really is a great song. Anyone else like Italo disco too? I listened to this entire mix last fall in the garage working on my car.

Overall pretty decent, especially trance which originates it Germany. Drum'n'bass sadly was pioneered mostly by black producers slash DJ's, but the whites ones such as Doc Scott are pretty good and luckily today most of em are white, because black musicians do not have the skill and knowledge.
