It is a popular misconception that Europe is as wealthy as it is as a result of theft from other peoples and parts of the world. This is a misconception that is not based entirely in fact. It would be remiss to not mention that other races have enslaved and taken from other peoples, but it is only Europeans who receive blame for these acts.

Not every European country that is wealthy today even had owned colonies overseas or had very limited histories of colonization compared to other European powers. Switzerland is a perfect example of this. Throughout its history, Switzerland possessed no colonies overseas and dedicated itself to a policy of military neutrality in fact. Today, Switzerland has one of the highest living standards in the entire world.

The majority of Eastern European countries also did not possess colonies. Many of these countries were subjects of larger empires such as the Russian, Ottoman, or Austro-Hungarian Empires. Somehow, this idea that whites stole wealth from other races is superimposed on these peoples as well. On the topic of these larger empires, why are Turks not being browbeaten with this concept of retribution and pressured into rectifying the transgressions they committed against the Eastern Europeans and Arabs that were under their control?

How is it that Germany became the powerhouse of Europe following its destruction during the Second World War in spite of being stripped of its colonial empire after the First World War? How is it that Finland is able to boast one of the most successful education systems in the world and high living standards despite centuries of Russian and Swedish subjugation and having no colonies?

People claim that the United States of America became wealthy off of slave labor. It should be noted that less than ten percent of African slaves sent to the New World were sent to the current day United States. However, the United States has still fared better than the countries where the vast majority of the African slaves were sent to in South America and the Caribbean.

Every race is guilty of committing transgressions against other races. It is foolish to pin poverty and the problems of other parts of the world solely on Europeans. The left loves to claim that racial stereotyping is immoral, but seem to have no qualms about stereotyping Europeans and painting Europeans with a broad brush. Europeans should shed the guilt about their pasts and instead view their glorious pasts with pride.
