Were the Gods of Ancient Near Eastern History Really Aryans?
Owen Benjamin asks, "Were history's gods European?"
If by European you mean "Indo-European" or "Aryan", and if by "history" you mean the history of the Ancient Near East--and the cultures that stem from that region-then the answer is a resounding YES! When the Aryan people began moving out of the Pontic Steppe beginning around 7,000 years ago and conquered the surrounding lands throughout Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa, they were seen by the indigenous Mediterranean Farmer Peoples of the conquered regions as gods. The Aryans had just invented bronze and their armies of metal, gleaming in the hot Middle Eastern sun, earned them the nickname the "shining ones", which in biblical Hebrew is given as the "Elohim" (aka the gods or the lords). They would become the ruling elite of lands like Egypt and India--whose populations were too large to exterminate--and they were seen as gods by those populations. In contrast, the Hyksos who invaded Egypt and were eventually cast out (this is where biblical stories like the casting out of Lucifer and his host and the "exodus" of the Jews come from) by the Aryan elite, were known as the "Apiru". This word translates as something like "scumbags" or "low-lifes", but also translates as "people of the serpent" or "children of the serpent". These appellations are closely related. For instance, in modern Spanish the word for scumbag is "escamoso" which literally translates as "scaly one". And, of course, in modern English we often refer to people we find to be untrustworthy and far beneath us as "snakes". The word "Apiru" would evolve over time to become "Abiru", "Habiru, "Hibiru", and ultimately we would come to know it as "Hebrew". The Bible really is the greatest story ever told; it's unfortunate that because of it's many iterations its true meaning has been lost. It is the tale of the how the primal forces of resolution and dissolution strive against one another to ultimately create God the Cosmos. But more importantly to us, it is the story of how the force of resolution is manifested in the Aryan people and the force of dissolution is manifested in the Jews. |
