The treasures of Agra (1983)

Сокровища Агры - (1983).

"Agra is a city on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is 378 kilometres (235 mi) west of the state capital, Lucknow, 206 kilometres (128 mi) south of the national capital New Delhi and 125 kilometres (78 mi) north of Gwalior. It is a major tourist destination because of its many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the Tāj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpūr Sikrī, all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Agra is included on the Golden Triangle tourist circuit, along with Delhi and Jaipur.

The city was first mentioned in the epic Mahābhārata, where it was called Agrevaṇa (derived from Sanskrit (अग्रेवण) meaning "the border of the forest").
It achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1556 to 1658."

Interesting to see Russian productions of Sherlock Holmes and The Three Musketeers. I haven't watched every minute of them, but the writing, production values and acting appear as good as Western films. Or what Hollywood and other Western films used to be. They're just garbage now.

Thanks Alex, up until now the only Russian movies I've seen are Sergei Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin the First in Space movie about Yuri Gagarin.

All of this was over after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
A now Russian cinema produces the anti-Soviet and even anti-Russian movies or weak similarity of Hollywood products.

The Sea-Gull (1970)

Чайка - (1970).

Based on the eponymous story by Anton Chekhov.

"Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1904) - (Russian: Анто́н Па́влович Че́хов) was a Russian playwright and short story writer who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short fiction in history. His career as a playwright produced four classics and his best short stories are held in high esteem by writers and critics. Along with Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg, Chekhov is often referred to as one of the three seminal figures in the birth of early modernism in the theatre. Chekhov practiced as a medical doctor throughout most of his literary career: "Medicine is my lawful wife", he once said, "and literature is my mistress."

Chekhov renounced the theatre after the disastrous reception of The Seagull in 1896, but the play was revived to acclaim in 1898 by Constantin Stanislavski's Moscow Art Theatre, which subsequently also produced Chekhov's Uncle Vanya and premiered his last two plays, Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard. These four works present a challenge to the acting ensemble as well as to audiences, because in place of conventional action Chekhov offers a "theatre of mood" and a "submerged life in the text".

Chekhov had at first written stories only for financial gain, but as his artistic ambition grew, he made formal innovations which have influenced the evolution of the modern short story. He made no apologies for the difficulties this posed to readers, insisting that the role of an artist was to ask questions, not to answer them."

The Diamond Arm (1968)

Бриллиантовая рука - (1968).

Notes:

Q: Why smugglers dig out their treasures when planting trees? (3:27)

A: They do it to make the laundering of their wealth.
According to Soviet law a person who has found a treasure received 25% of its value. The remaining 75% were in favor of the state.

Of course it's fantastic. A smuggler would not share with the state.
But everything is possible in the movies.

Q: What is the difference between the surnames "Kozlodoyev" and "Kozodoyev"? (41:17)

A: The surname "Kozlodoev / Козлодоев" derived from words "a (male) goat / козёл" and "to milk / доить".
And the surname "Kozodoev / Козодоев" derived from words "a (female) goat / коза" and "to milk / доить".
