Two fishing buddies pick up a hitchhiker during a trip to Mexico. Inspired by the crime spree of the psychopathic murderer Billy Cook who killed 22 people during a murder spree in the early 1950s. This movie was loosely based on the real-life 1950 murders of a rural Illinois family. The movie version, written and directed by Ida Lupino (shown below) still presents a well-acted, grim story: The reality of this crime was much grimmer than the movie version, but not suitable for 1953 movie audiences.
