Woman rescued after not posting Wordle

A naked man allegedly crept into a woman’s bed and held her hostage — but she was finally rescued after it was noticed she didn’t post her daily Wordle.

A naked man allegedly crept into an 80-year-old Chicago woman’s bed and held her hostage for 17 hours — but she was finally rescued after her daughter called the cops because the woman hadn’t texted her the day’s Wordle answers, WBBM-TV reported.

Denyse Holt was asleep on Saturday when the mentally ill man broke into her home in the Windy City’s Lincolnwood neighborhood, according to the outlet, the New York Post reports.

The intruder — identified as 32-year-old James H. Davis III, who was reportedly bloodied from a broken window — slipped into Holt’s bed while clutching a pair of scissors, the station said.

Four decades after Robin Brooks’ slaying, trial starts in Phillip Lee Wilson rape-murder case

BY SAM STANTON UPDATED FEBRUARY 16, 2022 2:46 PM

Forty-two years after Robin Brooks was raped and stabbed to death inside her Rancho Cordova apartment, a jury on Wednesday began to hear the damning evidence that led authorities to arrest Phillip Lee Wilson two years ago and charge him with murder.

His blood was inside her apartment, Deputy District Attorney Timothy Carr told the Sacramento Superior Court jury in his opening statement.

DNA from semen found with the slain 20-year-old doughnut shop worker matched Wilson’s, Carr said.

DALLAS - The man accused of kidnapping a young boy from his bed and murdering him may be deemed incompetent to stand trial.

Police said Darriynn Brown killed 4-year-old Cash Gernon in Southwest Dallas last year. Now, a psychologist and a psychiatrist have found Brown incompetent.

This is the decision Brown's defense team was hoping for. They maintain that their client was in a trance-like state at the time of the murder and suffers from hallucinations.

Immigrant sentenced to life without parole in Northern Nevada murders

Wilber Ernesto Martinez Guzman enters the courtroom in Washoe County District Court in Reno on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022.

Published Wednesday, March 2, 2022 | 10:16 a.m.
Updated Wednesday, March 2, 2022 | 11:34 a.m.

RENO — A Salvadoran immigrant has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for the murders of two of the four Nevada residents he admitted killing in a plea deal that spared him from a death penalty trial.

A Washoe County district judge sentenced Wilber Ernesto Martinez Guzman, 23, on Monday for the fatal shootings of an elderly Reno couple during a two-week crime rampage in January 2019.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Douglas County for the killings of two Gardnerville women, and on Friday in Carson City on charges related to property he stole from his victims and sold at a pawn shop there.

Martinez Guzman, who authorities say entered the U.S. illegally at age 16, pleaded guilty to all the crimes last year after prosecutors announced they’d agreed to a plea-bargain agreement in October.

Martinez Guzman had worked as a landscaper for all four victims — Jerry David, 81, and his wife, Sherri David, 80, in Reno; and Constance Koontz, 56, and Sophia Renken, 74, who lived in rural Douglas County.

A Texas serial killer and rapist has taken a plea deal and admitted to several attacks in order to avoid the death penalty.

Reginald Kimbro, 28, pleaded guilty on Friday to two 2017 murders as well as four sexual assaults he committed over the course of the previous five years, KXAS-TV reports. His plea came before the case could go to trial. The serial attacker was then sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the two murders.

He first killed Molly Jane Matheson, 22 — a Fort Worth woman and University of Kansas student who he had dated years prior — on April 9, 2017, according to a Friday press release from the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

About a week after Matheson’s murder (and while he was under investigation for it), Kimbro raped and strangled Megan Getrum, 36.
