Russian deputy prime minister in Venezuela to support Maduro

CARACAS/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov met Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday to underline Moscow’s support for the leftist leader that has helped him stay in power despite intense Western pressure to quit.

Moscow has acted as a lender of last resort for Venezuela, with the government and oil giant Rosneft providing at least $17 billion in loans and credit lines since 2006.

With dozens of Western and Latin American nations regarding Maduro as illegitimate, due to allegations he rigged a 2018 election, the support of Russia and China has been crucial.

Presiding over a meeting of the Russian-Venezuelan intergovernmental commission in Caracas with Borisov, Venezuelan Vice President Tareck El Aissami thanked Moscow, especially for facilitating oil shipments despite U.S. sanctions.

“Russian-Venezuelan relations are at their best moment and we’ve shown that in the middle of difficulties we can advance together, with efficient political and diplomatic coordination between both governments against the imperial siege and aggression which Russia also suffers,” he said.

The jewish supremacist and convicted criminal Elliott Abrams, who is the U.S. special envoy on Venezuela, is still agitating against Venezuela and Russia:

Exclusive: As Trump grows frustrated on Venezuela, U.S. to 'squeeze' Cuba, scrutinize Russia

Matt Spetalnick, Luc Cohen

WASHINGTON/CARACAS (Reuters) - The Trump administration is preparing new sanctions on Cuba over its support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and is taking a “closer look” at Russia’s role in helping him remain in power, the U.S. special envoy on Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, told Reuters.

President Donald Trump’s frustration over the failure of his “maximum pressure” campaign to unseat Maduro has spurred foreign policy aides to ready further U.S. actions and press for tougher sanctions on OPEC member Venezuela by European and Latin American partners, a second senior administration official said on condition of anonymity.

Abrams said Washington sees Cuba and Russia providing a lifeline to Maduro, nine months after the Trump administration and dozens of other countries resolved to no longer recognize the socialist leader as Venezuela’s legitimate president.

Exclusive: India's Nayara supplying fuel to Rosneft in exchange for Venezuelan oil - sources

Nidhi Verma, Marianna Parraga

NEW DELHI/MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - India’s Nayara Energy has been using Russian giant Rosneft as an intermediary to acquire Venezuelan oil, paying it in fuel rather than cash to avoid violating U.S. sanctions, three sources with knowledge of the transactions said.

The United States in January prohibited U.S.-dollar transactions for oil sales from Venezuela’s PDVSA or its units, a measure intended to cut off cash flows and increase pressure on President Nicolas Maduro, whose 2018 re-election has been dismissed as a sham by Washington.

The sanctions have made some banks wary of processing any transaction for Venezuelan oil, even if the seller is not the state-run company. They have also scared away some of PDVSA’s customers, while prompting others to buy Venezuelan crude from intermediaries like Rosneft, the sources said.

Venezuela's Wannabe Elites Now Subsidized by US Taxpayer to Lobby Congress for Regime Change

Leonardo Flores (Checkpoint Asia) Fri, Oct 25, 2019

American taxpayers are now paying the salaries and expenses of dozens of Venezuelan opposition figures who have created a “shadow government” inside Venezuela and abroad. On October 8, USAID signed a bilateral agreement with the faction of the Venezuelan opposition led by National Assembly president Juan Guaidó (whom the Trump administration recognizes as the “interim president” of Venezuela) that includes $98 million in assistance for Venezuelans.

A memo obtained by the L.A. Times reveals that USAID is diverting $41.9 million from aid for Central America and instead sending it “to Guaidó and his faction… to pay for their salaries, airfare, ‘good governance’ training, propaganda, technical assistance for holding elections and other ‘democracy-building’ projects.”

Elliott Abrams, the White House’s special envoy to Venezuela, said in an interview that the Trump administration wants to “pay for embassies, ambassadors [and] a National Assembly office in Caracas” for Guaidó’s team.
(...)
To date, no information has been made public as to whose salaries are being paid and how much they are being paid. What we do know is that the hard-earned dollars of American citizens are lining the pockets of Venezuelan politicians who have demanded an increasingly harder line against the Maduro government. This harder line includes brutal economic sanctions that amount to the collective punishment of ordinary Venezuelans and have led to the death of at least 40,000 people.

Trump administration diverts Central America aid to U.S.-backed opposition in Venezuela

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration plans to divert more than $40 million in humanitarian aid from Central America to the U.S.-backed opposition in Venezuela, according to an internal memo and interviews.

The memo, dated July 11 and obtained by The Times, is a notification to Congress from the U.S. Agency for International Development that the money is going to Venezuela in response to an “exigent” crisis involving U.S. “national interest.”

U.S. issues some exemptions to Venezuela sanctions, targets more officials

Daphne Psaledakis, Luc Cohen

WASHINGTON/CARACAS (Reuters) - The Trump administration on Tuesday issued licenses allowing some U.S. companies to pay taxes in Venezuela in spite of a broad U.S. sanctions regime, but also issued more sanctions on top officials in President Nicolas Maduro’s government.

The exemptions made clear that payments to the government for taxes, import duties, and other transactions “necessary and ordinarily incident to such persons’ day-to-day operations” would be permitted despite an Aug. 5 executive order banning U.S. companies from dealing with the Venezuelan government.

US Pulls of Ukraine-Style Coup in Bolivia - Why This Intervention Worked Where Venezuela's Failed

Colonel Cassad

A military coup took place in Bolivia, leading to the overthrow of President Evo Morales, who resigned.

Things evolved similar to what we saw not long ago in Venezuela. Elections were used as a trigger, and the right-wing opposition acted as a tool.
(…)
The events effectively used the Venezuela blueprint – street protests in major cities by the right-wing, attacks on ruling party activists, denial of legitimacy by the US & Co, pressure on the army to end support for Morales. Using the OAS [the Organization of American States] to delegitimise Morales, he was proposed to leave for Mexico. As a result, what did not work in Venezuela, where all this instrumentation, including the president appointed by Washington, was designed to overthrow Maduro, as a whole worked in Bolivia, allowing to overthrow the president, who in democratic elections gained 600,000 votes more than his opponent.

De facto, it’s a banal colour coup, like the Ukrainian coup.

Evo Morales, an indigenous leader who bucked the IMF and condemned US imperialism, has been pressured by the military to resign after winning an election. Yet Washington calls this blatant coup in Bolivia a victory for democracy?

Morales was re-elected as Bolivia's president on October 20. The coup-backing Organization of American States (OAS) wasn't pleased and went ahead interfering in a sovereign nation – as the US itself does so well – issuing a report stating that there were “clear manipulations” of the voting process. The heavy funding from the US surely has no influence on OAS policies…
(…)
As most readers know, this is not the first US-backed coup in Latin America. Washington's history of meddling in sovereign nations stretching back many decades. But let's look at how Bolivia changed under Morales' leadership.

Poverty, unemployment and illiteracy all decreased significantly under Morales. In fact, according to a report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR), Bolivia's was the “fastest-growing” economy in South America, having “basically been stagnant for a quarter century prior to Morales becoming president in 2006.”

To do so, however, “the Bolivian government ended 20 years of IMF agreements in 2006,” the same CEPR report notes. Furthermore, expelling US military bases, threatening to close the US embassy in Bolivia, and nationalizing the oil and gas industries haven’t done much to put him in the good graces of ‘democracy-bringers'.
(…)
After all, with America's lust to 'democratize' the world and steal precious resources in the process, nationalizing a country's goods really mucks up Washington’s dirty plans. It doesn't help that Bolivia has $2.3 billion worth of contracts to develop its lithium deposits with China, not the US.

Who benefits from Bolivia losing Morales as president? Not the Bolivian people, that's for certain. In fact, some predict Bolivia's future could be very dire under the rule of a US puppet.

International jewry’s coup attempt failed in Venezuela, but sadly it succeeded in Bolivia. Yes, I know that Evo Morales is a hardcore leftist, but just like Chávez and Maduro, he opposes "American" (read: jewish) imperialism/jewish globalism/the Jew World Order, which is why the jews and their lackeys overthrew him.

Guaido supporters invade Venezuelan embassy in Brazil & announce new ‘ambassador’ (PHOTO, VIDEO)

13 Nov, 2019 13:47

Supporters of Venezuelan opposition figure Juan Guaido have seized Venezuela’s embassy in Brazil. While embassy officials said they were “invaded by force,” Guaido’s “envoy” to the country has declared herself the new ambassador.

About 20 Guaido supporters jumped the embassy wall and occupied the facility, according to local reports. Videos posted on social media show police lined up outside the embassy while others stand around the building.

Reporting on the invasion, Venezuelan Charge d’Affaires, Freddy Efrain Meregote, has requested help from all political parties and social movements to resolve the crisis.

Meregote has dismissed claims that some embassy officials helped the occupiers get in the embassy, saying that “all officials recognize Nicolás Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.”

‘We freed ourselves of IMF & had big plans on exports’: Exiled Bolivian president Morales blasts coup & hints at US role in it

13 Nov, 2019 17:34

Ousted Bolivian President Evo Morales has accused the US-headquartered Organization of American States of making a political decision in backing the right-wing opposition, saying the coup continues to wreak havoc after his exile.

Speaking from Mexico a day after he fled Bolivia, Morales said: "The OAS is in the service of the North American empire."

Morales said he “could not understand” how his military commanders could show such “disloyalty.”
“That confirms that my great crime is to be indigenous. It’s a class problem,” he said.

The exiled president said that after freeing itself from the International Monetary Fund, the Bolivian economy was doing better.

The jews kept telling us that their loathsome puto Guaidó had the support of the Venezuelan people, and that his claim to power was supported by the Venezuelan constitution, but as we can see in this thread, those were all jewish lies.

Guaidó had virtually no support among the people, which the US secretary of state Mike Pompeo later admitted, and Venezuela's constitution states that the president of the National Assembly (i.e. Juan Guaidó) has the right to declare himself interim president only if the normal chain of succession is disrupted, which it clearly wasn't since Maduro won two presidential elections, the first one against the evil jew Henrique Capriles Radonski in 2013, and the second one in 2018.

Furthermore, the Venezuelan constitution states that the interim president only has a 30-day mandate, which means that it expired in February (since Guaidó arrogantly proclaimed himself president on January 23), yet Guaidó keeps calling himself the country's real president – and the jew-controlled Trump administration and the jewish media go along with the charade.

After Venezuelan opposition call for mass rallies, street protests underwhelm

Brian Ellsworth, Vivian Sequera

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido’s call for massive street protests against President Nicolas Maduro has so far yielded only modest demonstrations, casting doubt on a plan to revive stalling efforts to force a change in government.

Last Saturday Guaido called on supporters to stage permanent street rallies against Maduro, who has clung to power despite an economic collapse and U.S. sanctions that have hobbled the OPEC member’s oil exports.

There has been a low turnout at demonstrations

Regime Change Backfires Badly, Destabilizes Evil US Puppets in Chile, Ecuador, Colombia

Eric Striker 13 hours ago

When the Trump administration revived Reagan-relic Zionist Elliot Abrams early this year to orchestrate regime change in Venezuela, a new era of instability was born in the Western Hemisphere.

Approaching a year into this project, the domestic flames have mostly been put out by the willful Nicolas Maduro, while Washington-backed liberals in Chile, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador face popular unrest.

This is another neo-conservative bomb that underestimated its opposition and has blown up in the Trump administration's face.

In Chile, once held up as the model of liberal democracy and global capitalist development, falling copper demand, low wages, mass unemployment and a rise in the subway fare have led to massive street demonstrations against president Sebastian Pinera.

Pinera, a corrupt multi-billionaire who made his money through credit card usury, has an approval rating of 14%.

Rather than resign, the man who attacked Maduro as a "dictator" is dispatching the military against his own people to cling to power, showing the world what liberal "democracy" looks like underneath the flashing billboards and rainbow flags.

Pinera's security forces have so far killed multiple people and maimed thousands. In true cowardly form, the president is now condemning his own troops for defending his regime.
(…)
Marquez has proudly touted Colombia's GDP growth in recent years as an achievement (which he always contrasts with regional rival, Venezuela), but like in Chile, the financial prosperity has only benefited the urban elite. Plans to cut old age pensions and lower the minimum wage were the straw that broke the camel's back.

These incidents are irony on steroids. Pinera and Marquez both worked with Abrams to undermine Venezuela, giving Maduro's government "hours" until collapse during the flare up last spring.
(…)
As for Abrams' project, a transsexual leading the anti-Maduro opposition has basically admitted that their hopes have been dashed.

Other signs suggest that they are putting this objective on the backburner. The Jew appointed by pretend-president Juan Guiado to restore Wall Street's control of Venezuela, Ricardo Hausmann, has given up and disassociated from the clown crowned "legitimate leader" of a major OPEC country over Instagram.

Reality’s dawning on US media that Venezuela coup failed & Maduro’s stronger – what next, ask Russia to ‘ease him out’?

9 Dec, 2019 20:50

Almost a year on from the Trump administration’s failed bid to oust Venezuela’s socialist leader, the media is scrambling to make sense of where it all went wrong – and finally admitting that Nicolas Maduro is going nowhere.

When the “virtually unknown” US-backed opposition figure Juan Guaido declared himself “interim president” in January, he won instant support from Washington’s global allies as the “legitimate” leader of Venezuela. Western media was soon consumed with a sense of hopeful anticipation that Washington was on the verge of overthrowing another ‘bad actor’ and preparing to pat itself on the back for supporting the cause of “democracy” and “human rights.”

Change of tune

Now, nearly a year later, the sense is one of reluctant resignation and an admission that, despite best efforts, another attempt at ‘regime change’ has failed – and that Guaido’s opposition was not all it was cracked up to be.

In a recent lament for the failed coup, the Wall Street Journal admits that Maduro appears to be “in firm control” and bemoans that the Trump administration had predicted his “imminent downfall” too early. The WSJ admits that the White House showed “excessive optimism” and suffered from what critics called “unrealistic expectations that [US] pressure tactics” would easily force Maduro from power. The newspaper acknowledges that Maduro’s position is secure despite debilitating US oil sanctions and attempted international isolation.

It’s a common pattern and one analysts watching US regime-change efforts around the world know all too well. The same script played out in Syria as Washington and its allies predicted the swift downfall of President Bashar Assad as early as 2012, but are still waiting today, causing Foreign Policy magazine to admit recently that he is now Syria’s “best case scenario” after US efforts to install “moderate” jihadis into power failed.

What went wrong?

In Venezuela, US media is even starting to admit that the troubled economy is showing signs of improvement under Maduro, thanks to an uptick in oil exports and increased dollarization, while the Guaido-led opposition grapples with its own corruption scandal, proving to Venezuelans that it may not be an “honest alternative” to Maduro at all.
(...)
What to do next?

A recent piece published by Bloomberg gives an indication of where US policy on Venezuela may be headed next – and it’s another familiar road. When all options are exhausted and failed, it seems the next step is always to look to Russia for help.

Sources “familiar with the matter” told Bloomberg that the Trump administration is “losing confidence” that Guaido can ever topple Maduro and, as such, is considering “new and more aggressive strategies.” One of those strategies, they said, would be “an attempt to partner with Russia” –an ally of Maduro– in order to “ease out” the leader.

This has echoes of US policy in Syria, too, where Washington repeatedly demanded that Moscow change its strategy and abandon its support of Assad – before eventually seeming to admit that ousting him should no longer be a top priority.

Venezuelan Government Denounces Right-Wing Terrorist Plan

Venezuelan Communication Minister, Jorge Rodriguez, denounced a terrorist plan Saturday led by the right-wing opposition, which was fortunately dismantled, but that it intended to attack detachments of the Venezuelan National Guard.

Venezuelan Communication Minister, Jorge Rodriguez, revealed Saturday details of a terrorist operation that was intended to be perpetrated against the Gran Mariscal Sucre Headquarters and the Zonal Command No. 53 of the Bolivarian National Guard in the state of Sucre.

This operation was carried out by members of the right-wing party, ‘Voluntad Popular,’ led by Leopoldo Lopez and Juan Guaido, and organized by the deputies of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Janet Fermin and Fernando Orozco.

"After a terrorist operation Leopoldo Lopez and Juan Guaido wanted to enter weapons from Colombian territory to storm Venezuelan military bases," Rodriguez denounced.

From the press room Simon Bolivar in the Palace of Miraflores, the communication minister presented evidence of the terrorist plan that sought a "bloodbath" in at least the state of Sucre with different acts of aggression and which would be assisted by several armed groups.

Rodriguez said opposition deputy Orozco held several meetings with members of the police in the state of Sucre with the intention of recruiting them to carry out the operation, including Sixto Salamanca, alias Soublette 9 and Jose Miguel Yegüez, alias Cazador. They are currently in detention and their testimonies reveal the details and those involved in the failed act.

Venezuela's Constituent Assembly approves trial of four opposition lawmakers

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela’s pro-government Constituent Assembly on Monday approved a trial for four opposition lawmakers accused of committing crimes including treason and conspiracy.

The lawmakers’ parties have denied the charges and denounced the process as another step taken by President Nicolas Maduro’s government to dismantle the opposition-controlled national assembly, led by Juan Guaido.

Guaido in January assumed an interim presidency and called for Maduro’s removal, though his campaign has lost momentum in recent months and the ruling Socialist Party retains control of the state and military.

The Constituent Assembly, a legislative superbody created by Maduro to override the national assembly, on Monday voted unanimously to approve the trial after a request by Venezuela’s top court, which is also stacked with pro-government judges.

Default ‘Murderer!’ Protests and fights erupt as Guaido arrives at Venezuelan airport, gets booed and DOUSED with water

https://on.rt.com/aav2

Chaos broke out at an airport in Venezuela's capital Caracas, when Juan Guaido, who was declared interim president by the opposition, returned from an overseas trip.
On Tuesday, Guaido arrived at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Caracas after completing a support-seeking tour abroad, during which he attended US President Donald Trump's annual State of the Union Address in Washington.

The tensions first erupted when the politician was passing immigration control. As he was talking to an immigration officer, Guaido was suddenly confronted by an angry woman who accused him of "selling out the country." She was wearing a bright red T-shirt, often sported by the supporters of Guaido's chief opponent, President Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela parliament speaker election: Chaos inside & outside, Guaido accused of provocation after he was ‘denied’ entry

6 Jan, 2020 08:15

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido has been accused of pulling a PR stunt after a dramatic video showed him mounting a fence to enter the parliament, as it voted to replace him as the head of the legislature.

The opposition-led National Assembly changed guard on Sunday, with the majority of lawmakers electing Luis Parra, an MP from the centrist Justice First, a party in opposition to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s United Socialist Party (PSUV).

One of the absentees was US-backed opposition figurehead Juan Guaido, the now ex-leader of the National Assembly, who proclaimed himself the country’s ‘interim president’ a year ago.

Guaido and a group of his henchmen were filmed attempting to climb a fence surrounding the legislature, with uniformed security guards pulling them back. The video has spread like wildfire online, and was picked up by mainstream media in the West, which spun it as evidence of Guaido being barred from participating in the key parliamentary vote by the supposedly ‘sinister’ Maduro ‘regime.’

But there’s a twist. Other footage shows Guaido chatting with members of the National Guard and refusing to enter the premises unless his companions, reportedly five other deputies who were stripped of parliamentary immunity pending criminal prosecution, are allowed inside. After his plea was rejected, Guaido reportedly raised hell and attempted to storm the building.

After his gambit failed, Guaido convened a parallel assembly at an office of the pro-opposition El Nacional newspaper. His supporters “re-elected” Guaido and ‘swore him in’ as the parliament’s leader, proclaiming the recent National Assembly vote unlawful.

Overstaying his welcome? Trump spotlights Venezuela’s Guaido in cringeworthy reminder of year-long ‘interim presidency’

5 Feb, 2020 04:26

US President Donald Trump shone an awkward spotlight on self-styled Venezuelan ‘interim president’ Juan Guaido sitting in his SOTU audience over a year of daydreaming about replacing Nicolas Maduro as the only ‘legitimate leader.’

Trump introduced an embarrassed-looking Guaido to the SOTU audience as “a very brave man who carries with him the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of all Venezuelans.” Declaring him the “true and legitimate president of Venezuela,” Trump contrasted the fidgety self-appointed statesman to “socialist dictator” President Nicolas Maduro – currently in Caracas running his US sanctions-hit country.

Asking the US-backed and thrice-failed coup leader to take a message back to “his” country, Trump informed Guaido that “all Americans are united with the Venezuelan people in their righteous struggle for freedom.”

“Socialism destroys nations, but always remember freedom unifies the soul.”

Freedom doesn’t seem to be unifying the Venezuelan opposition, however. Guaido was ousted as head of the National Assembly last month, replaced with fellow opposition lawmaker Luis Parra. He now claims to be president of an alternate national assembly, which is somehow fitting in light of his 13-months-and-counting as “interim” head of a Venezuelan government that exists largely as a shared fantasy between himself, the Trump administration, and a handful of right-wing allies in Latin America. Just 7 percent of supporters of the Venezuelan opposition are “very confident” in his leadership abilities, according to one recent poll.

MSM brushes off arrest of Guaido's uncle for smuggling EXPLOSIVES as attempted ‘intimidation’ of failed coup leader

13 Feb, 2020 17:46

By Helen Buyniski, RT

The arrest of self-appointed ‘interim’ president of Venezuela Juan Guaido’s uncle on explosives smuggling charges has been spun as a ‘kidnapping’ – or even ‘revenge’ for Guaido’s State of the Union stunt - by credulous MSM.

Juan José Marquez, uncle to thrice-failed coup leader Guaido, was arrested on Tuesday after returning to Caracas from Lisbon, where he had been accompanying his relative on a world tour to shore up support for the latter’s flagging efforts to depose Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

While Marquez was charged with smuggling “dangerous materials” – a stash of C4 explosives concealed in flashlight batteries and perfume capsules – into the country, sympathetic media have lined up behind Guaido’s explanation for the arrest. Marquez, Guaido insisted, had been “forcibly disappeared by the dictatorship” in a “cowardly move” meant to intimidate the wannabe leader.
