Province introduces mandatory Holocaust education
November 9, 2022 It is Holocaust Education week. On Wednesday, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced a series of reforms to combat rising antisemitism across Ontario schools, including the introduction of mandatory Holocaust learning for the first time in elementary schools. Antisemitic events are on the rise in schools across Ontario. There were more than 50 incidents involving antisemitic hate symbols happen in the Toronto District School Board alone in the 2021-22 school year. According to the first study of antisemitism and Holocaust knowledge, conducted by Western University and Liberation75 in 2021, 42 per cent of students surveyed said they have witnessed an antisemitic event. The study also found that one in three students think the Holocaust was fabricated, exaggerated or are unsure if it actually happened. https://www.durhamradionews.com/archives/161521 |

Girl Guides of Canada to rename its Brownies program to be more inclusive
Organization says move will further remove barriers for racialized girls and women to belong Nov 15, 2022 The Girl Guides of Canada announced Tuesday they will be renaming their Brownies branch to be more inclusive. "We made that decision because we heard from girls and from former members and current members that the name caused them harm," Jill Zelmanovits, the CEO of Girl Guides of Canada, told CBC News. Zelmanovits said talks about changing the name began in 2020 during the pandemic. She said she heard some girls wanted to be members, but the name didn't make them feel like they belong. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-...anch-1.6652499 |

Skate Canada removes gendered terms like “man” and “woman” in competition as part of its commitment to “non-discrimination based on gender identity”
December 15, 2022 Skate Canada says that the previous definition of a “team” was “one woman and one man.” Skate Canada says that this previous “definition was inconsistent with Skate Canada’s vision of Skating for Everyone and Skate Canada’s commitment to non-discrimination, including non-discrimination based on gender identity.“ https://westphaliantimes.com/skate-c...nder-identity/ |

As much as I hate Canada I really hate canada.
A huge part of my hatred of them is Hockey. Its a great sport I have enjoyed over the years, but the European version, more technical and creative. Since I lived to see Argentina and Messi win the World Cup I really no longer give a shot about pro sports..except.. There is one more thing I want, for Aleksandr Ovechkin to surpass Gretzky's record, just to enjoy Aleks the Great having that record and a Canadian not to have it.. Jewmedia in Canadia hates Russian bratko, so Great8 is even more Awesome Read this badly written racist hate piece , imagine anything like that about a nigger https://torontosun.com/opinion/colum...celebrate-no-8 |

No more ‘Brownies’: Girl Guides of Canada dumps name in deference to anti-racism
January 11, 2023 Canadian moms bringing snacks to their daughters’ Girl Guides meetings may want to steer clear of those fudgy baked chocolate squares. The Girl Guides of Canada announced Wednesday that their 7- to 8-year-old members will be called Embers instead of Brownies, deeming the previous name offensive to “racialized (Black, Indigenous and people of colour) girls and women.” “Taking this step means we are creating more inclusive spaces where racialized girls in Canada can feel welcome and proud to belong in Girl Guides,” said the announcement. “With this change, we hope even more girls will see Guiding as a space where they can just be themselves.” The organization said in November that it was undertaking a national search to replace Brownies “after hearing from current and former members that the previous name caused harm and was a barrier to belonging for racialized girls and women.” The Board of Directors “emphatically agreed this was the right action to take to reduce harm to racialized girls and stand by our commitment to inclusion, equity and anti-racism,” according to the FAQ. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news...mbers-name-fi/ |

School board votes to counter antisemitism with new equity coach
Unanimous vote comes after incident that led to 2 students being charged Jan 18, 2023 Ottawa's largest school board is closer to hiring a Jewish equity coach to help combat antisemitism at schools. A unanimous vote by Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) trustees Tuesday came after students used antisemitic symbols, language and gestures at Sir Robert Borden High School last month. Two students face criminal charges. "[It] is a day I will never forget and one that has changed our family forever," David Baker said on Tuesday night. He told CBC News last month that his Jewish son was confronted by fellow students in a locker room Dec. 1 with a swastika made of ski poles and a Nazi salute. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottaw...oach-1.6717159 |

Manitoba's physicians college apologizes for current and past racism against Indigenous people
College admits racism in the medical care received by Indigenous people, 'or should have received but did not' Jan 31, 2023 The college that regulates Manitoba's physicians is apologizing for its current and historical failure to respond to Indigenous-specific racism in the medical profession. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) said its responsibility also extends to the racist actions and inactions perpetuated by physicians, residents, medical students, clinical assistants and physician assistants. "We accept this responsibility, and we apologize," said the statement, which was delivered by college representatives at the Special Chiefs Assembly on Health Legislation, hosted by the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, on Tuesday. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manit...cism-1.6732746 |
