Many of these tanks and trucks have only been used in combat once and they come to sit in this large field to rot and be stripped for parts and only a small number are refurbished and used again.

Why the fuck not just fix them up and keep using them? So an Abrams tank used for a year or so is no longer good?

Or is this a fucking excuse to get more spending and enrich the likes of Boeing, General Dynamics (maker of Abrams tank), AM General etc?

"An "improper" mass alert sparked a major scare over an active shooter at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the Navy said Tuesday evening.
The Navy's statement attributed confusion earlier in the day at the key military medical facility outside Washington to a mistakenly sent notification.

The statement came after messages from the Navy and the Pentagon called the incident the result of a drill, while a local military agency called it an active shooter incident.

"While preparing for an upcoming drill, the notification system was inadvertently enacted without containing the words 'EXERCISE' or 'DRILL,'" the Navy said just before 6 p.m. ET. "Individuals who saw the mass notification statement immediately notified NSA Bethesda security, where they responded accordingly and instituted an installation-wide active shooter response."

The confusion started Tuesday afternoon when the Montgomery County Police Department's press office said it had received a call to assist on a report of an active shooter at Walter Reed.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the Facebook account for Naval Support Activity Bethesda noted "there is a report of an active shooter" in the basement of a building at Walter Reed. As the hour continued, the account said base security had cleared the basement and that there was "no indication so far of an active shooter."

The US military strategy in Afghanistan has failed to achieve any victories and has made the war-torn country the "graveyard" of US troops, as it had become for previous empires, says an American political analyst.

"We're seeing the United States go down the path of other great powers or once great powers such as Great Britain," said Rodney Martin, a former congressional staffer based in Los Angeles.

"Afghanistan was the graveyard of Great Britain, it was the graveyard of the Soviet Union and now it is beginning to be the graveyard of the United States," Martin told Press TV on Wednesday.

"The United States did not learn from Great Britain or the Soviet Union," he added.

Afghanistan has long been called the "graveyard of empires"--for so long that it is unclear who coined that term. In the past two centuries, both Soviet and British invaders have been forced to make bloody retreats from Afghanistan, deprived of victories that, on paper, looked easy, but ultimately proved futile.

Last year, the Taliban militant group warned the US that they would make Afghanistan the "21st-century graveyard for the American empire" after President Donald Trump's announcement that he would commit more troops to the country.
