The Russian Defenсe Minister held a working meeting with the head of the Indian military department

03.09.2020 - 19:03

The Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu held a working meeting in Moscow with the head of the military department of India Rajnath Singh.

"Russia and India act as equal partners in world affairs. Our countries support the formation of a multipolar democratic system of international relations based on strict compliance with legal norms and based on the central role of the UN," Sergei Shoigu said.

He also expressed hope that the "enormous" potential of Russian-Indian cooperation will continue to be realized for the benefit of the two countries.

The Russian Defence Minister thanked his Indian counterpart for his personal participation in the events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic war, which took place on June 24.

In turn, Rajnath Singh said that he admired the Victory parade on June 24 at the Red Square in Moscow.

"I witnessed an impressive parade with the participation of many countries," said the head of the Indian military department, noting the huge contribution of the Soviet Union to the victory in world war II.

The head of the Indian military department called Russia a "long-standing privileged partner", whose relations are based on a common interest in global peace, prosperity and mutual understanding.

"India is committed to closer and stronger cooperation in defence, security and technology, as well as economic activities commensurate with our huge potential," Rajnath Singh added.

In addition, the Indian Defence Minister said at the meeting that he is confident in the effectiveness of the Russian coronavirus vaccine.

"We congratulate you and your country on the success in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. I am confident that the "Sputnik V" vaccine will prove very effective in preventing COVID-19, " said Rajnath Singh.

During the meeting, the heads of military departments of Russia and India also discussed issues of military and military-technical cooperation and expressed their intention to "further strengthen multifaceted ties in the spirit of a particularly privileged strategic partnership".

After completing the flights, the panel of judges summed up the results of the competition, determining the winner of the competition. The head of the Russian military department held a working meeting with the UN Secretary General's special representative for Syria

03.09.2020 - 20:15

Western sanctions have a negative impact on the political settlement and the fight against terrorism in Syria, Russian Defenсe Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said during a working meeting with the UN special representative for the country Geir Pedersen.

"There have been significant changes in Syria, which relate to almost all areas of the crisis settlement of the political process, the humanitarian situation and post-conflict reconstruction, the fight against terrorism. Illegitimate western sanctions against Syria have a negative impact on these processes," the head of the Russian military department said.

Among other negative factors, Sergei Shoigu called the violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, the looting of natural resources, as well as restrictions imposed due to coronavirus infection. However, the Syrian authorities, with the support of Russia, are doing everything possible to normalize the situation, he said.

At the same time, according to the Russian Defenсe Minister, it is difficult to understand the logic of western countries that, on the one hand, "imitate concern for the Syrian people", and on the other, impose sanctions against them — prohibit the supply of medicines and products, preventing the return of refugees.

"The hand that mercilessly plunders this country is the hand that imposes sanctions. We need to come to the point where we can give the Syrian people freedom to develop by lifting sanctions and stop stealing oil," Sergei Shoigu said.

The Russian Defenсe Minister is also perplexed by the position of Europe, which does not want to accept new flows of refugees, but, in his opinion, does everything to ensure that Syrians would like to leave their country.

Russian crews won an unconditional victory in the final of the international competition "Suvorov Attack" of the Games-2020

04.09.2020 - 14:27

Russian crews of infantry fighting vehicles won the final relay of the international competition "Suvorov Attack", which was held at the training ground of the far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command School (DVOKU). Military personnel of the Republic of Belarus finished second, and representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran closed the top three.

The winner was determined on the last day of the races, which were held in the form of a relay of crews on one infantry fighting vehicle from each team. The high-speed race was held in difficult road conditions. As a result of heavy rains, the ground of the track was significantly waterlogged and did not allow the mechanics-drivers to develop the desired speed. The time of Russian team at the championship was 1 hour 34 minutes 43 seconds. The high result is due not only to the unmistakable high-speed overcoming of obstacles and the route, but also to the accurate shooting of BMP-2 weapons at the firing line. Under the terms of the competition, each miss sent the crew to penalty rounds.

The hard-fought battle between the strongest crews of the teams of eight countries continued from August 23. The contest was attended by representatives of the Republic of Belarus, Afghanistan, Iran, Equatorial Guinea, Myanmar, Mali, Congo and Russia. This is the maximum number of countries in the six years of this competition. Most of the teams arrived at the competition for the first time. Awarding ceremony of the winners will take place on 5 September at the site of DVOKU.

Among the winners, Russia annually holds a strong position in this competition, the team of the Republic of Belarus last year at the Korla training ground in China was in fourth position, and the team of Iran was in third place. Among the debutants, it is worth noting the teams of Equatorial Guinea, Congo and Afghanistan, who showed the highest results.

Statement of participants of the joint meeting of Defence Ministers (heads of defence departments) of the SCO member states, CIS member states and CSTO member states on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory In the Second World War

05.09.2020 - 11:00

In 2020, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the victory In the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and in the Second World War - the most brutal and bloody conflicts in history, which claimed tens of millions of lives and caused terrible suffering to humanity.

In those harsh years, the selflessness and patriotism of our peoples who won the Victory were clearly shown. We express our sincere respect to the living veterans of our countries for the heroism and labor feat shown during the war.

We are deeply indebted to those who gave their lives on the battlefields, bow our heads to the fallen, and cherish the memory of the unparalleled courage of millions of soldiers, partisans, resistance fighters, and civilians who laid their lives on the altar of the struggle for freedom, peace, and justice.

We declare the need to take care of military graves, memorials, monuments and obelisks in honor of those who died in the fight against Nazism. There is no justification for vandalism of such memorials.

Our sacred duty is to protect and firmly defend the historical truth about those events, which is stored in the memory of our peoples and in archival documents. We strongly condemn attempts to falsify the history, causes and results of the Second World War, as well as to rehabilitate and glorify Nazi criminals and their accomplices. The decisions of the international military Tribunal in Nuremberg and the International military Tribunal for the Far East do not have a statute of limitations and must be strictly observed.

We reaffirm our commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the universally recognized principles and norms of international law.

We pay special attention to the resolution adopted by the 74th session of the UN General Assembly on combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. We consider any attempts to display extreme nationalism and various national discrimination, such as anti-semitism and islamophobia, unacceptable.

We call on all states and peoples to actively cooperate in order to strengthen stability in the world, as well as to increase efforts in the fight against challenges and threats.

In the year of the 75th anniversary of the victory In the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and in the Second World War, we once again advocate a comprehensive dialogue aimed at strengthening the international security system.

Military surgeons performed a unique operation to eliminate aortic rupture

10.09.2020 - 10:44

In the hybrid operating room of the Central military clinical hospital named after A. A. Vishnevsky underwent a unique operation to eliminate aortic rupture.

The hospital's cardiac surgery center received a patient who was taken on a special flight from Sochi in an unconscious state. The hospital doctors began to fight to save the kidney and the left lower limb. Modern high-tech equipment of the A. A. Vishnevsky hospital allows to perform this type of operation.

In the first stage, military doctors performed a cross-bypass surgery. The leg was included in the bloodstream, which resulted in avoiding amputation of the lower limb. At the same time, the patient's symptoms of hypertension were actively increasing, and blood pressure was rapidly increasing. Further examination revealed a shriveled left kidney that could no longer function because the renin level in the blood was too high. This indicator is known to increase blood pressure.

At the second stage, military doctors decided to remove the shrunken kidney, after which it was necessary to eliminate the aortic rupture, starting from its arch to the abdominal aorta. It required the installation of a special medical device stent graft (a kind of "prosthesis" of the affected area of the aorta).

The operation, led by the head of the cardiac surgery center, doctor of medical sciences, Professor Alexander Lischuk, took two hours and was completed successfully. The success of the operation is ensured by the well-coordinated work of teams of cardiac surgeons, as well as specialists in endovascular surgery.

Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel-General Alexander Fomin held a briefing on the preparation and conduct of the maneuvers "Kavkaz-2020"

11.09.2020 - 14:09

Today, Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation Colonel-General Alexander Fomin held a briefing for foreign military attaches, where he informed them about the preparation and conduct of the maneuvers "Kavkaz-2020".

The Deputy head of the military department said that in accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for 2020, it is planned to hold the maneuvers "Kavkaz-2020" in the third decade of September. This event is the final stage of preparation in 2020 for the Southern Military District and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation as a whole.

"Such maneuvers are conducted in accordance with the existing training system of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. It provides for a cycle of exercises with the troops of each military district once every four years. The previous similar maneuvers on the territory of the Southern Military District took place in 2016," Alexander Fomin said.

In addition, large-scale exercises and maneuvers were also conducted in the territories of the Western and Eastern military districts in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and in the Central Military District last year. This year it is again the turn of the Southern Military District.

The "Kavkaz 2020" exercise is planned to be held from September 21 to 26 under the leadership of the Chief of the General staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, in two stages.

At the first stage, the military authorities will plan military operations in the conditional military-political environment created for the maneuvers.

Issues of interaction between the military contingents of the countries participating in the maneuvers in the fight against international terrorism supported by the armed forces of a mock enemy state will be worked out to repel air attacks, conduct reconnaissance, search and defensive actions.

At the second stage, it is planned to solve the tasks of direct command of units of a multinational group of troops during joint combat operations.

It is planned to conduct drawings of actions of land forces groups of troops, aviation and air defense groups, forces of the Black sea fleet, the Caspian flotilla when applying a massive fire strike and conducting offensive actions to defeat the opposing mock enemy.

"The military command and control bodies, troops and forces of the Southern Military District, part of the military command and control bodies, troops and forces of the Western Military District, Airborne troops, long-range and military transport aviation are involved in the exercise," the Deputy Defence Minister said.

Alexander Fomin also added that military formations from Armenia, Belarus, China, Myanmar and Pakistan were invited to the exercise to work out joint actions as part of the Land Forces group of troops. Azerbaijan and Iran are invited to participate in the drawings of the maneuvers episodes in the Caspian sea.

"The practical stage of preparation for the maneuvers was started in March 2020, when a series of staff talks with military delegations of the states participating in the maneuvers took place in Moscow," the Deputy head of the Russian military department said.

He also recalled that in July, a surprise inspection of the troops of the Southern and Western Military Districts, separate formations of Central subordination, Airborne troops, marines of the Northern and Pacific fleets was carried out.

The main purpose of the inspection, which was conducted in preparation for the maneuvers "Kavkaz-2020", is to assess the ability of the Armed Forces to ensure military security in the southwest of the country.

In addition, in August, staff negotiations were held with delegations of foreign states involved in the maneuvers on its preparation and for the purpose of joint reconnaissance of the area of the final stage of practical actions of troops at the Kapustin Yar training ground (Astrakhan region).

Also a series of exercises on various types of support for the actions of troops was held in August.

"Information about preparations for major exercises and maneuvers is regularly posted on the website of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, distributed by Russian and foreign news agencies," the Deputy Defence Minister stressed.

Alexander Fomin also said that the following ranges will be used for practical actions of the troops: Kapustin Yar, Ashuluk, Prudboy, Adanak, Rayevsky, ground aviation ranges Arzgirsky and Kopansky.

In addition, in the waters of the Black and Caspian seas, drawings for episodes of actions of groups of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian flotilla, including with the participation of warships of the naval forces of foreign countries, in particular, the Islamic Republic of Iran will be held. The issue of participation of ships of the naval forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan is being considered.

In total, it is planned to involve about 80 thousand people to participate in the exercise (including formations and units of combat, logistics and technical support, as well as air defense units, the Navy, National guard and The Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters).

At the same time, the maximum number of military personnel involved in the maneuvers under a single operational command, which is subject to the Vienna document of 2011, will be up to 12.9 thousand military personnel.

In addition, the exercise will involve up to 250 tanks, up to 450 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, up to 200 artillery systems and multiple launch rocket systems.

Thus, the number of troops involved, tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery, mortars, multiple rocket launchers, and the number of planned sorties does not exceed the level that is subject to mandatory monitoring of certain types of military activities established by the Vienna document of 2011.

"However, in order to achieve maximum transparency, we proactively invited to visit the final stage of maneuvers "Kavkaz-2020" at the Kapustin Yar (Astrakhan region) the leaders of the defence ministries of several foreign countries as well as representatives of military-diplomatic corps", — said the Deputy head of the Russian Defence Ministry, stressing that the maneuvers "Kavkaz-2020" is purely defensive.

Alexander Fomin added that the main goal of the event is to train troops to conduct combat operations in modern conditions and increase the operational compatibility of the military command bodies of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and partner states.

The Deputy Minister of Defence also noted that practical drawings of troop's actions are held on the territory of the Russian Federation, and when developing the concept of the exercise, a mock enemy was implied that is not related to any particular state.

"These approaches are consistent with the principle of maximum openness and do not affect interstate relations with our foreign partners, " the Deputy head of the military department concluded.

The fighters performed 25 sorties to intercept air targets during the CIS air defence training

11.09.2020 - 14:55

As part of the ongoing training with the command bodies and air defence duty officers of the joint air defence system of the CIS member states, the crews of the Su-27, Su-30SM, MiG-31, and MiG-29 aircraft on duty took off to the air to intercept aircraft that violated the state border 25 times.

Su-27, Su-30SM, MiG-29, MiG-31 interceptor fighters of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the air force and air defence Forces of the Republic of Belarus and the air defence Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan are on combat duty for air defence at their airfields in 10-minute readiness for departure.

After receiving a signal about the detection of unidentified aircraft that violated the state border with the republics of Belarus and Kazakhstan, these aircraft headed for the state border, where they conducted aerial reconnaissance, found the violating aircraft and carried out their conditional destruction.

Fighters were guided to the target by the A-50 radar patrol and guidance aircraft, which performed radar reconnaissance in the air. It guided the crews of interceptor aircraft to the target and provided information to ground command posts in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The crews of Su-27, Su-30SM, MiG-29, and MiG-31 fighters took off and detected intruder aircraft as soon as possible.

Commander-in-Chief of the VKS held a briefing for military attaches of foreign states

11.09.2020 - 16:32

Today, the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces (VKS), Colonel-General Sergey Surovikin, held a briefing for military attaches of foreign countries.

In his speech, he noted that the Russian VKS continuously monitor the level of military activity of the United States and its NATO allies in the airspace near our borders.

Recently, the States of the Alliance have significantly increased the intensity of the use of reconnaissance aircraft. Compared to last year, the number of such flights in August increased by more than 30 percent.

In all cases, air defense systems detected foreign military aircraft in a timely manner, established continuous monitoring of them, and took measures to prevent violations of the Russian border.

Only in August of this year, the Russian VKS aircraft rose 27 times to intercept them over the Baltic, Barents, Black and Okhotsk seas.

"Previously," the Commander-in-Chief of the VKS noted, "we recorded mainly the actions of reconnaissance aircraft, but recently the number of combat aircraft flights has increased."

So, on August 21 of this year, the US received a notification through military and diplomatic channels about the planned transfer of a group of B-52 strategic bombers to the territory of England "to participate in training operations together with allies in Europe" with a stated duration of two weeks.

The information was general in nature without specifying terms of flights. It was also stated that the US Air Force will work out the tasks of strategic stability and demonstrate the capabilities of nuclear forces to deter a potential aggressor from attacking the US and its allies.

It was planned to work out episodes of joint use of NATO forces and means near the borders of the Russian Federation.

On August 28, according to the plan of the joint strategic command of the US Armed Forces, a special demonstration training and combat event was held under the conditional name "Allied Sky-2020". At this event, issues of joint use of strategic bomber aircraft and combat aircraft of the Air Forces of NATO countries were worked out.

At the same time, four B-52s from the forward air base Fairford made single flights over the territories of 28 European NATO member countries.

During these flights, the crews of strategic bombers conducted training on the use of air-launched cruise missiles at objects on the territory of the Russian Federation from the airspace over the central Black sea and the territory of Estonia.

At the same time, two B-52s, operating from the continental United States, practiced similar combat training tasks in the Arctic latitudes over the territory of Canada.

Fighter cover for the bombers was provided by about 40 tactical aircraft from the national air forces of 12 NATO countries.

The activities of strategic bombers of the US Air Force in Europe were promptly discovered and tracked by radar equipment of radio engineering units of the VKS.

In order to prevent violation of the Russian Federation's airspace and visual detection of air targets over the Black and Baltic seas, four Su-27 fighter jets were raised to intercept, which identified the strategic bombers and carried out their patrol escort along the flight routes.

On August 31, as part of combat training flights from advanced air bases in Europe, three B-52s from Fairford air base flew over the territory of the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and the Baltic states to the area of the Estonian "Tapa" test site and back over the waters of the Baltic and North seas.

"According to our assessment," said Colonel – General Sergey Surovikin, " during this event, the B-52 crews worked out how to reach the threshold of using cruise missiles with a simulated missile strike on objects in the Kaliningrad region and other western regions of our country."

B-52 aircraft were steadily tracked along the flight route by radar units of the Baltic fleet, as well as the 6th army air force and air defense.

To prevent violations of Russian airspace, interception and patrol escort of American bombers, two Su-27 fighters of the Baltic fleet's naval aviation took to the air.

On September 4, according to the plan of the joint strategic command of the US Armed Forces, options for using strategic bomber aircraft near the south-western borders of the Russian Federation were worked out.

Three B-52s, operating from Fairford air base, flew to the area of combat use over the western part of the sea of Azov. The route passed over the territory of the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Ukraine. The minimum approach to the Russian state border was 30 km.

During the flight, the bomber crews completed a conditional launch of air-launched cruise missiles. "According to our assessment," the Commander-in-Chief of the VKS noted, " objects located on the territory of the Southern Military District were considered as targets."

In addition, the simulated interaction of B-52 aircraft F-16C Polish Air Force, as well as Su-27 and MiG-29 Air Force of Ukraine.

The Americans and the British ensured the actions of strategic bombers by conducting an unprecedented reconnaissance operation over the Black sea.

Five reconnaissance aircraft and one strategic unmanned reconnaissance vehicle were in the air at the same time. Their minimum approach to the Russian border was 15 km, and exploration of the territory of Russia was conducted to a depth of 600 km.

As part of the tasks to cover the air border of the Russian Federation, eight aircraft from the duty forces – four Su-30SM and four Su-27-were raised to the duty zones over the sea of Azov and the northern part of the Crimean peninsula.

In general, US bomber aircraft from August 28 to September 4 this year made 10 single and group flights in the airspace of Western and Eastern Europe, as well as over the adjacent sea areas.

This week, on September 7 and 8, we also recorded B-52 flights from Fairford air base to the southern and northern regions of Europe.

The measures taken by the Main command of the VKS made it possible to timely reveal the activities of strategic bombers of the US and NATO countries Air Force, as well as to organize effective counter-measures.

Detection of the B-52 was carried out by over-the-horizon radar at maximum range, which made it possible to quickly target fighters from the air defense forces on duty-Su-30SM and Su-27 for interception, patrol escort and prevention of violations of the airspace of the Russian Federation.

All tasks were performed by Russian VKS pilots at a high professional level. Short-term attempts to approach the B-52 to our borders were promptly blocked by Russian fighters. There were no aviation incidents.

We believe that working out the issues of combat use of strategic aircraft in the immediate vicinity of the state border of the Russian Federation is hostile and provocative.

In the air, the state border is not as clearly defined as on the ground. A combat aircraft performing maneuvers near it, given the speed of modern aircraft, can be in the adjacent territory in a matter of minutes. This can lead to a serious incident. Along with the use of fighter aircraft, all air objects approaching our border are equipped with VKS radar detection equipment and anti-aircraft missile systems, which are being transferred to the appropriate level of combat readiness.

The actions of the US and NATO Air Force fundamentally contradict the statements of Alliance officials about the desire to prevent incidents during combat training events. They can be avoided only due to the high level of professional training of Russian VKS pilots.

I also note that flights of any combat aircraft over the territory of Ukraine do not contribute to defusing tensions in the region.

We are not interested in escalating the situation, so most of the operational and combat training activities of the Armed Forces are carried out in the interior of the country. We are committed to constructive cooperation to create conditions for safe operations in the airspace and prevent incidents.

The VKS will continue to monitor the situation at the Russian borders in order to take timely measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation. "We have all the necessary forces and means for this," added the Commander-in-Chief of the VKS Sergey Surovikin.

On the eve of Tanker Day, the Ural Tank Division of the Central Military District held the largest exercise this year, involving more than 8,000 personnel and over 1,500 units of military equipment.

Subdivisions of T-72B3 tanks played out an episode of transition from defense to offensive with consolidation on the flanks, inflicting fire damage on the advance units of the advancing "enemy" with the support of cannon and rocket artillery.

Having shackled the enemy's actions, the subunits created encirclement rings around it, excluding attempts to inflict fire damage on the flank of the group of forces. Distant critical objects were destroyed by missile and bomb strikes by Su-34 bombers and Mi-24P helicopters.

At the Pravdinsky training ground in the Kaliningrad region, the artillerymen of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet trained in firing from "Grad" multiple launch rocket systems.

On the eve of their professional holiday, tankers of the Guards Tank Army of the Western Military District performed live firing from the weapons of restored T-34 tanks at the Alabino training ground near Moscow.

During the training, they also guided the tanks over the "Tank Biathlon" obstacles, completing the tasks of maneuvering in high-speed sections and difficult turns.

Gunners of the Southern Military District and the Armed Forces of Armenia performed live firing in a joint reconnaissance and fire complex

15.09.2020 - 10:07

As part of a joint battalion tactical exercise, artillery units, together with scouts and crews of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Russian military base and the Armenian Defence Ministry, discovered and destroyed the targets of the mock enemy.

During the exercise at the Alagyaz training ground, the commanders of the artillery units of the two countries practiced shooting and fire control actions. In cooperation with the reconnaissance groups, the artillery officers discovered and classified the disguised targets of the mock enemy. Crews of self-propelled howitzers "Gvozdika "and towed mortars "Sani" using radar and artillery reconnaissance in a single system of reconnaissance and fire complex hit targets. Moscow hosts Defence Ministry Board Session

17.09.2020 - 12:31

Today, under the leadership of the head of the Military Department General of the Army Sergei Shoygu, a session of the Board of the Russian Defence Ministry took place in Moscow.

The Russian Defence Minister began the meeting with an implementation of the activities for 2019-2025 in the Air Defense and Northern Fleet in terms of implementing the May decrees of the President of Russia, his instructions following the meetings in Sochi and his Message to the Federal Assembly.

Sergei Shoigu noted that the military-political situation in the Western strategic direction remains tense. In the Eastern Military District, a set of measures is envisaged to neutralize emerging threats. The force grouping are gradually being built up in especially important areas.

“By the end of the year, the district will receive over five hundred units of new and modernized equipment,” Sergei Shoigu said. - This will make it possible to re-equip 14 formations, in particular, two anti-aircraft missile regiments - for S-400 complexes and two anti-aircraft missile battalions - for Buk-M1-2 complexes.

The head of the military department noted the positive dynamics in the recruitment of formations and military units with servicemen under the contract: “Since the beginning of the year, about eleven thousand people have been selected. The recruitment plan is 100% complete."

He said that the final exam for the military command and control bodies and the district troops in the summer training period was participation in a two way command post exercise with groups of forces at the Tsugol training ground. More than 19,000 servicemen and 2,000 pieces of military equipment were involved in the event. As part of the preparation for it, a set of special exercises were conducted on all types of comprehensive support.

In addition, the minister noted that the military personnel of the district are actively involved in disaster relief. Thus, in the Republic of Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory, 57 forest fires were localized on an area of 46 thousand hectares. In total, 442 people and 68 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing. To monitor the areas of natural fires, over 30 sorties of the army and 50 sorties of unmanned aircraft were carried out.

Then they touched upon issues related to the flood situation in the Jewish Autonomous Region, where a consolidated detachment of the Eastern Military District in the amount of 700 people and 50 pieces of equipment has been operating since September 12. The personnel are carrying out work to strengthen the dam on the Amur River. About 450 tons of sand and gravel mixture were delivered, protective structures in the Leninskoye settlement with a total length of more than 3 kilometers were strengthened.

Then the head of the military department drew the attention of the Board Session members to the military-political situation in the Arctic, where the tendency to complication persists. “First of all,” Sergei Shoigu said, “this is due to the growing competition between the world's leading states for access to resources and transport communications. We are actively developing the Northern Fleet to strengthen the state's defence capability and ensure Russia's national interests in the Arctic. More than 20 significant organizational and staff activities are planned this year, including the formation of crews entering the combat composition of the fleet of surface ships and submarines."

Also, the head of the military department noted that the Training Plan for 2020 is being implemented ahead of schedule. 3,797 test events were held, half of them with the use of weapons. The preparation of a diverse grouping of the Navy has been completed. Practical shooting from all types of weapons has been practiced in cooperation with long-range aviation. Eight military voyages of ships were carried out with calls to 12 foreign ports. In the Norilsk region, an joint tactical exercise was held with the implementation of tasks to strengthen the protection, defence of important facilities and the destruction of illegal armed formations.

Then Sergei Shoigu spoke about improving the infrastructure of the Arctic zone. “The construction of Nagurskaya and Temp airfields, block-modular camps for the newly formed units of the 3rd Air Defence Division and weapons storage facilities continues,” the minister said. - Reconstruction of the mooring front for the latest missile submarine cruisers of the Borey-A project is underway.

“The Northern Fleet is equipped with modern military equipment adapted for use in the harsh Arctic conditions. This year he will receive 179 weapons. The fleet has already been supplemented by the Knyaz Vladimir nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine and the Admiral Kasatonov frigate, the Akademik Pashin sea tanker and the Nikolay Skosyrev hydrographic vessel, the minister added.

According to him, the Northern Fleet is successfully solving tasks in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. In the Arctic, he not only ensures the safety of the Northern Sea Route regions but also participates in the study of the region.

Currently, together with the Russian Geographical Society, the fleet is conducting the third Integrated Arctic Expedition for scientific and practical research of the Arctic Ocean.

In conclusion, Sergei Shoigu proposed to consider the implementation in the Armed Forces of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Fundamentals of State Policy in the field of mobilization preparation and mobilization for the period up to 2030, approved by the President of the Russian Federation in January last year.

“The Fundamentals define the key tasks of mobilization training, which the Armed Forces are solving in close cooperation with government bodies,” the head of the military department said. - To increase the effectiveness of joint activities, starting from 2019, comprehensive mobilization exercises have been conducted under the leadership of the commanders of the military districts and the Northern Fleet, where the whole range of measures for the transfer of troops, government bodies and the regional economy to work in wartime is being worked out. The recruiting commissions and territorial defence headquarters are headed by governors, which improves the quality of mobilization activities. By the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, during the annual strategic exercises, the readiness of government bodies and industrial enterprises to fulfill tasks to ensure the mobilization deployment of the Armed Forces in wartime is checked.

“To further increase the mobilization readiness of the army and navy, we are implementing an appropriate Plan, linked in terms of goals, tasks and timing with the activities of other state bodies,” the minister concluded his opening remarks to the members of the Board Session of the Ministry of Defence.

The electronic warfare and communications units of a motorized rifle unit and a separate airborne assault brigade of the Airborne Forces in the Volgograd region provided a covert command and control system and protection from enemy drones.

The specialists deployed mobile command posts, protecting radio channels from massive impact and suppression of radio frequencies by enemy's EW, ensuring continuous command and control of troops.

The communication units, having moved the field stations, performed camouflage and sheltered satellite communication stations, command and staff vehicles, antennas and cable communication lines, taking into account the peculiarities and terrain of the landfill.

The use of the "Borisoglebsk-2" systems by electronic warfare units made it possible to suppress control signals of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles and prevent them from conducting optical and electronic aerial reconnaissance.

During the Kavkaz-2020 maneuvers, a unified control system was created for the air defense duty forces, including all forces and means to repulse air strikes, cover groupings of troops and control all means of engaging air targets from a single center.

To organize the command and control of air defense forces and interaction with the covered troops, modern communications and automated control systems are used. They make it possible to identify and distribute air targets in the shortest possible time, as well as bring commands to destroy them in real time.

Radar reconnaissance, control and interaction during the "Kavkaz-2020" maneuvers will be practiced in the conditions of electronic suppression of communications equipment.

Logistics units set up ferry and pontoon crossings across the river about 500 meters wide, and also restored a railway bridge, destroyed by enemy aircraft, on the route of the 49th Combined Arms Army.
