I just recently finished The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins. It is a
book about atheism. Dawkins shows how Darwin's theory of evolution disproves intelligent design and he points out some logical flaws about religion. If you are an atheist or agnostic you will probably like it.

I just finished "Jesus in the Talmud" by Peter Schafer. A honest Jew who tells the truth about the filth the Talmud spews about Christ and Christianity. He's a Professor of Judiac Studies and the Director of the Program in Judaic Studies at Princeton University. I'm hoping to get to meet him personally at the end of August when he returns from summer break. You won't find his book on the shelves though. I had to have Barnes and Noble order it for me.

The Dangerous Book for Boys by Conn and Hal Iggulden.
It's a stealthy WN title about general knowledge and lots of interesting stuff. They're out there, our brothers in arms, quietly and cleverly doing what needs to be done to make noble men out of an unfortunate generation of boys, and girls, growing up in a thoroughly Judaized culture. It's sort of an old-school tribute to when America, and the West, was 90% white and MUCH better off because of it. When genuine knowledge and knowing mattered. The Dangerous Book for Boys |

What are you reading?
I can't believe a thread on this hasn't been started a long time ago. (I did a search on it and came up blanksville.) Anyway...
I'm just finishing up Honore de Balzac's Pere Goriot, and -- now get this! -- I'm awarding it the much-coveted MH rating of four stars; it's that good. Next up: Herodotus' The History

Might is Right
Might is Right
From page 12: Every one who would be free must show his power. Unalterable remains the basis of all earthly greatness. He who exalteth himself shall be exalted, and he who humbleth himself shall be righteously trodden beneath the hoofs of the herd. “The humble” are only fit for dogs’ meat. Bravery includes every virtue, humility, every crime. He who is afraid to risk his life must never be permitted to win anything.

I'm reading an excellent social/economic history of the Spanish Empire (Imperial Spain 1469 - 1716) by J. H. Elliott. It's extensively plagiarized by Wikipedia. Anyway, their problems and what brought them down are weirdly, creepily like ours. Maybe all empires have the same fatal illnesses. |

I've got a hardcover copy of The Age of Voltaire on the back burner, which I picked up at my county's annual spring library book sale for a measly fitty cent. Not bad, eh? After I finish up with The History I'm delving into Samuel Butler's translation of The Iliad. (I read another translation of it about 20 years ago; can't remember whose though...)

If you enjoyed that, try Ray Laurence's Roman Passions on for size. Chapters cover food and wine, the arts, entertainment, and, my personal favorite, sex. (I once got into it on a history forum with a self-professed expert on all things Greco-Roman who claimed that ancient Romans didn't indulge in homosexuality; at least not openly. I proved him wrong: The perversion was tolerated amongst young men by their elders, to a degree, until they reached adulthood; then they were expected to go straight, marry -- a female -- and settle down; unlike the Greeks who, some of them anyway, indulged in the perverted practice until old age).

Zzzzzzz...Wha--? Who's that?!...Oh, hi...I'm just surprised is all that an "eggheady" thread such as this would receive more than a handful of responses. I was ready to plant a tombstone over this one.
I'm reading Plutarch's Lives, btw...
