Protesters hit news anchor with eggs and yogurt live on air

Any television anchor would be hard pressed to find a more unfortunate experience than one endured by a Greek anchor Friday evening, as a group of protesters broke on set and fired eggs at him during a live telecast.

According to GreekReporters.com, anchor Panagiotis Bourchas was pelted with eggs and yogurt by protesters upset over him hosting a spokesperson from the far-right political organizations Golden Dawn.

Amazingly enough, Bourchas showed no signs of panic despite the barrage, calmly taking all the eggs thrown at him while remaining on set. The anchor talked to his viewers before signing off.

On October 24 and 25 I attended an international conference of nationalists in Thessaloniki, Greece. Also attending the conference were representatives of groups in Greece, Portugal, Romania, Flanders, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, and Austria. It was hoped that representatives of Russian groups also would be present, but none was able to attend. The Alliance was the only group in the United States represented. The conference was hosted by the Greek nationalist group Golden Dawn.

"Cooperation across national borders will become increasingly important for progress and perhaps even for survival in the future."
One thing I discovered which the Jews have done for the Alliance in places like Greece is gives us name recognition. Every nationalist in Europe has heard about The Turner Diaries, for example. And being promoted by Bnai Brith as the most dangerous organization in America also has helped.

Idiotic liberal feminist attempt at satire, the target being GD

I HATE GREEK NAZIS

Greek Golden Dawn Neo-Nazi MP Slugs Little Girl, But On Accident

by Kaili Joy Gray

It is sort of comforting to know that we here in the US of A are not the only ones with far right-wing lunatics serving in elected office. (See, for example, this guy and this guy and this guy and this broad. We could go on, but there are not enough column inches on the whole internets to provide a full list.)

It turns out that Greece, the country from which we kind of plagiarized democracy, has its very own crazy party, called Golden Dawn, which actually makes our American-style teabaggers seem sort of tame. (Come to think of it, we may have stolen teabagging from the Greeks too.) If you are into neo-Nazis, Golden Dawn is your kind of party. And we dont mean in a Godwin-type way, like how Republicans are always comparing everything from birth control to not letting Rick Santorum gay-bash at high schoolers to Nazis.

These are actual neo-Nazis, though they prefer the term nationalists because Nazi is such an ugly word, isnt it? This is a party that openly praises Hitler, quotes from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and sure does hate Jews. And you know who else hated Jews?

So check out this latest bit of charming, via The Guardian:

A member of parliament from Greeces extreme-right Golden Dawn party allegedly tried to punch the mayor of Athens on Thursday, swinging at him but reportedly missing and hitting a 12-year-old girl instead. [...]

Golden Dawn issued a statement denying a girl had been hit and vowing to sue [Giorgos] Kaminis and his security guards. For his part, Kaminis intends to sue [Giorgos] Germenis for the attempted attack, the municipalitys press office said. Police said they were investigating complaints against the MP for threats and brandishing a weapon.

Golden Dawn had announced it would hand out free Easter food to Greeks only on Thursday. Kaminis had banned any such events in the citys main square, and vowed Wednesday not to allow the soup kitchen of hate to take place
.

Obviously, a violent far-right party that shows great fondness for Nazi literature and symbols would not really do violence do a little girl, even if the violence was intended for the mayor. Its not like members of this party have a history of doing violence, especially not to women:

During a live television debate on Thursday between a bunch of Greek politicians (its broke citizens go to the broken polls on June 17), Ilias Kasidiaris, a spokesperson for and member of the terrifyingly named neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn, tossed a glass of water at a lady rival, Rena Dourou of the left-leaning Syriza party, THEN slapped another lady politician, Liana Kanelli of KKE, the communist party, twice. This after an exchange of insults including you old commie! (he to she) and fascist! (she to he). The bestest part of this is that it is ONLINE! The second best part is that the reason Kasidiaris attacked the women is because they were asking him about a 2007 mugging that he has been implicated in. The trial about that mugging is ongoing, but its safe to say, um, innocent until proven to be a violent freak on national television.

Funtimes video at the above link!

Then the Golden Dawn dude sued the lady, for making him punch her.

Golden Dawn sounds like a nice group of gentlemen, doesnt it? Almost makes you grateful that the idiots in our government mostly just go around saying stupid things not actually beating up their colleagues and little girls who get in the way.

http://xaameriki.wordpress.com/2013/...ct-their-lies/

The assault on Golden Dawn has been relentless in the last few days. The propagandists at the New York Times, The Guardian, and other usurer controlled rags have been publishing rumors as facts regarding George Germenis attempting to shoot the Mayor of Athens, as well as punching a 12 year old girl in the face. Video footage taken at the scene has shown beyond reasonable doubt, that this is an unfound lie. The fact is that Mayor Kaminis committed horrific violence against a peaceful food giveaway, while attacking innocent people before the eyes (at least until his minions pepper sprayed them) of thousands of Greeks, and now the media is trying to take attention off of this. But it is too late, the Greeks have turned off the TV and use your newspapers only to wrap fish, what people saw with their own eyes on the streets of Athens and at the Mayors office guarantees the PASOK democrats will be run out and Golden Dawn will take the municipality next election.

One of the police officers in the Mayors entourage at the scene leaked to the media that it was in fact Mayor Kaminis thugs who punched the 12 year old girl. He justified this by claiming he was trying to to stop MP George Germenis from pulling his gun, of which there is no evidence to prove. Germenis went to the bought Mayors office to protest his orders to teargas and pepper spray needy old people and children.

This new revelation will be used as prime evidence for the suit Golden Dawn will be bringing over the blatant attack on a Golden Dawn parliament member. It is now proven once and for all that Germenis never struck Kaminis, much less a child.

Is it safe to say, that the New York Times, The Guardian, and other liars wont go back and apologize for the mistake of publishing a baseless rumor as a fact? The Greek people and those even around the world have been lied to for the past 24 hours by every major press establishment, its not hard to connect the dots as to why.

Dendias Says Golden Dawn Could Be Banned
By Andy Dabilis on May 5, 2013

After the European Union’s human rights chief said that there’s enough evidence of violence being perpetrated by the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party that has 18 seats in Parliament to outlaw the group, Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias said the government is looking into whether that could be done.

Speaking to Real News weekly, Dendias suggested that the next Parliament could approve such legislation as part of a constitutional review. “The constitutional review gives us the ability to exclude from the party system outgrowths such as Golden Dawn,” he said.

Golden Dawn, which rose from obscurity and 0.29 percent of the vote in 2009’s elections to entering Parliament and with polls placing it a firm third among major parties, said that Dendias was insulting its voters. The government had earlier said it could not prohibit a group that had legally won seats.

Golden Dawn that Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ ruling New Democracy Conservatives and one of his coalition partners, the PASOK Socialists, should be banned for their involvement in countless scandals.

In April, the Council of Europe’s commissioner for human rights, Nils Muiznieks said that Greece must take tougher measures to combat a surge in racist violence that critics blame on the extremists, but which party leaders have denied.

He said that Greece would be “fully within its rights under international human rights law” to ban the party from public office, although he stopped stopped short of saying it should do so.

Disgraceful! New Democracy Signs Into law Resolution Introducing Homosexuality to Children!

A European resolution was signed on February 4th regarding various homosexual topics. More specifically this resolution takes in to account the respect for the gay parade and the creation of special youth and education programs in other words propaganda targeting underage children specifically on homosexuality. The entire proposal was prepared by Austrian MEP, Ulrike Lunacek of the Austrian Green Party, with support from the homosexual lobby Brussels.

The remarkable and interesting thing about the whole situation is the position taken by the Greek speaking wing of MEPs, and especially that of the patriotic wing of New Democracy. Greece has a total of 22 MEPs, eight of which belong to PASOK, seven to New Democracy, two to the Communist Party of Greece, one to SYRIZA, one to the Ecologist Greens, one independent, formerly of New Democracy, and two to L.A.O.S. Not one of the countrys MEPs voted against the resolution, creating a bleak picture for the countrys representation in the European Parliament.

As it regards to the patriots of New Democracy and to Mr.180 Karatzaferis, there is an additional element worth mentioning. The political factions to whom they belong had decided not to support this specific proposal, since it strikes at the Christian tradition of Europe, the air and customs of the people of Europe. Opening the backdoor to obscurantist censorship, that we also known as progressiveness. The patriotic MEPs, however, chose to bow their head and worship the leftists, voting in favor of this resolution.

To elaborate further, of the seven New Democracy MEPs, three voted in favor of the resolution, and four abstain from the vote, meanwhile the two MEPs of Karatzaferiss party, one abstained and the other, Niki Tzavela, voted in favor of teaching homosexuality to children in the school system.

If one was to take to the streets and poll the Greek population, the results would yield an overwhelming response against this resolution, as the Greeks do not under any circumstance want to have their morals insulted. This makes for a compelling argument for a much needed reboot of the representation in the European Parliament, with the overwhelming support for Golden Dawn, the only anti-globalization power in Greece, and the only Greek voice in parliament.

* Head of the 'Greens' Ulrike Lunacek is a real piece of work, a vile Austrain dyke who is also very active in Serbian affairs . Lunacek is the official Rapporteur for Kosovo and has called for the abolishing of the 'genocidal' Serbian entity in Bosnia.

Apart from this she's also a member of the "Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET)", the "Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM)" member of the "Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE)", the "Delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo (DSEE)" and the "Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (DEPA)".

As co-president of the European Parliament's Intergroup on LGBT Rights she also fights for the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender persons

Greece plummets to 99th place in press freedom index

Slippage represents 'dizzying fall for the world’s oldest democracy', says Reporters Without Borders

Wednesday 12 February 2014

Author: Damian Mac Con Uladh

'While freedom of information is occasionally abused in some European Union countries, it is repeatedly and blatantly flouted in others. This is the case in Greece,' says Reporters Without Borders annual press freedom report

A 'no signal ' sign appears on the public ERT, NET and ERT3 channels, after the government suspended state television and radio broadcaster ERT in June (AFP)

Freedom of information is "repeatedly and blatantly flouted" in Greece, pushing the country into 99th place out of 180 countries this year's World Press Freedom Index.

The country's downwards spiral in press freedom, which represents a remarkable drop of 80 places since 2002, is a "dizzying fall for the world’s oldest democracy", said Reporters Without Borders, which authored the report.

Although closely challenged by Greece, Bulgaria – in 100th place – retains the status of lowest ranked European Union country after a trying year marked by five months of major protests and political tension.

“Suffering from the effects of the economic crisis and a surge in populism, Greece (99th) fell 14 places” on last year, the report, published on Wednesday, said.

“While freedom of information is occasionally abused in some European Union countries, it is repeatedly and blatantly flouted in others. This is the case in Greece,” it added.

The report said that apart from economic difficulties - it refers to the rising unemployment among journalists - "the Greek media have a bad reputation that is the result of years of clientelism".

"Reporters covering the frequent street protests against the austerity measures adopted by a series of short-lived governments have been the victims of both police violence and violence by demonstrators accusing them of colluding with the government," it added.

It referred to the shutdown by the New Democracy-Pasok government of the country's national broadcaster ERT in June, describing it as a "a turning point in Greece’s media history", one that also represented "an unprecedented decision in a European Union country". [press freedom is lost when a government-funded medium goes out of existence? these clowns of cluelessness think free media has something to do with government subsidy, which is the opposite of the case]

What the report says about Greece:

The 2007 economic crisis hit the Greek media hard. The few wealthy shipowners and entrepreneurs who financed the national media have moved their investments into more profitable sectors. One news organisation after another has announced layoffs. Many journalists are now unemployed. As well as economic difficulties, the Greek media have a bad reputation that is the result of years of clientelism. what has any of that to do with press freedom?

Reporters covering the frequent street protests against the austerity measures adopted by a series of short-lived governments have been the victims of both police violence and violence by demonstrators accusing them of colluding with the government.

The security situation has been aggravated by the rise of the neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn, which won nearly 20 seats in the Voul (parliament) in June 2012 thanks to euroscepticism and growing hostility towards foreigners accused of “stealing Greece”. Golden Dawn’s leaders and supporters openly target journalists. Physical attacks have become systematic throughout the country. Death threats are growing.

wait - what about the behind-the-scenes pressure applied to various broadcasters to canceled planned interviews with Golden Dawn leaders - you know, elected members of parliament? That comes in for no mention.

June 2013 was a turning point in Greece’s media history. In a race to cut spending, conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras took what was an unprecedented decision in a European Union country. Under pressure from the troika (the European Commission, European Central Bank and IMF) to reduce the budget deficit, Samaras closed the state-owned national broadcaster, ERT, consisting of four TV stations and five radio stations.

Just hours after ERT was told of the decision, dark screens with the words “No signal” stunned Europe and the world. Under international pressure, the government finally announced the creation of a new state broadcaster to be called Nerit.

Greece's rankings since 2002

Major declines

Published by Reporters Without Borders, the World Press Freedom Index 2014 spotlights major declines in media freedom in such varied countries as the United States, Central African Republic and Guatemala and, on the other hand, marked improvements in Ecuador, Bolivia and South Africa.

The same trio of Finland, Netherlands and Norway heads the index again, while Turkmenistan, North Korea and Eritrea continue to be the biggest information black holes, again occupying the last three positions.

“The World Press Freedom Index is a reference tool that is based on seven criteria: the level of abuses, the extent of pluralism, media independence, the environment and self-censorship, the legislative framework, transparency and infrastructure,” said Reporters Without Borders secretary-general Christophe Deloire.

“It makes governments face their responsibilities by providing civil society with an objective measure, and provides international bodies with a good governance indicator to guide their decisions.”

Reporters Without Borders head of research Lucie Morillon said: “This year, the ranking of some countries, including democracies, has been impacted by an overly broad and abusive interpretation of the concept of national security protection.

This year’s index covers 180 countries, one more than the 179 countries covered in last year’s index. The newcomer is Belize, which has been ranked in the enviable position of 29th.

[the minister asserts the exact opposite of what Golden Dawn says]

Greek minister slams Troika, says surplus will be ‘big surprise’

Published 12 February 2014

Greek finance minister Yannis Stournaras attacked the Troika for its austerity prescriptions, saying a primary budget surplus will be announced soon and will be much larger than expected, EurActiv Greece reports.

Stournaras said the budget surplus would be a “a very very big surprise”, slamming Greece‘s international lenders for the forecasts they made from September 2013. At that time, the Troika asked for additional austerity measures to the tune of €3 billion.

“If I had accepted this [forecast], it would have been a great disaster”, he said.

“The Troika is stuck, it was stuck, because now I hope that with the new elements in their mind will somehow adjust to the reality”, he added.

Stournaras was speaking at a conference in Athens called "Oser la Democratie" (Dare Democracy), organised by the French weekly magazine Le Nouvel Observateur in collaboration with the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

The two-day conference (6-7 February) gathered Greek and international politicians and experts who analysed the current situation and trends in the EU ahead of the crucial European election in May.

Greek PM: Athens is finding its path

The Greek prime minister, Antonis Samaras, said the European Union was “looking for its own balance” and stressed that freedom and justice were the core ingredients of democracy.

Regarding his own country, he noted that Athens was recovering because it believed in Europe.

"The country is finding its path again, it is entering growth, and we achieved this because we believed in Europe, we did not believe in the detractors of extremism and populism," he said, adding that the Greek government managed to achieve the greatest fiscal health the country had ever seen.

Some Greek people do adhere to Nazi principles, the Greek PM continued. He was referring to two recent opinion polls which showed the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party, which has a Swastika-like emblem and believes in ridding Greece of the "stench" of immigrants, would get 8.9 to 10.3% of the vote if elections were held now.

According to Samaras, disenchanted voters are merely angry about unemployment.

D’Alema: The EU needs 'radical political change'

Addressing the conference, Massimo D'Alema, the former prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Italy, pointed to the lack of trust in the EU among the public.

“A piece of research shows that if the situation does not change, in 2018 the trust in the European Union on the part of the countries of northern Europe will be only 1.3% and in the southern less than 1%. What is needed is a radical political change”, he stressed, adding that inequality and unemployment in Europe have gone beyond all bounds.

He also said that in a constantly changing world Europe has no alternative than to unite.

“Our future will be brighter and we will be strong only if we are together," said the Italian official.

This ought to be called noyadeism - "So that if one of us gets knocked down, we all go down."

'Less regulation, more politics'

Internal Market and Services Commissioner Michel Barnier talked about the importance of attracting EU citizens’ interest by taking initiatives in areas such as industrial competitiveness, social and tax base, education and research.

“We have learnt from the crisis. This will not be business as usual”, he assured.

Barnier said the EU should now focus on growth as a response to “extremism”, something that can only be achieved with “less regulation and more policy”.

New Democracy’s Marx Brothers For Mayor
ColumnsGreek BeatOpinionby Andy Dabilis - Feb 12, 2014

Aris Spiliotopoulos (L) and Nikitas Kaklamanis go over a contract about who will run for Mayor of Athens

Next to watching a Marx Brothers movie, nothing is as entertaining these days as watching Greece’s New Democracy Capitalists running around like Keystone Cops trying to figure out who’s in charge and who’s doing what to who and why because the alleged leader, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, is trying to herd cats without a whip.

Samaras’ coalition, that includes the invisible PASOK Anti-Socialists who didn’t even register in one poll at the three percent level needed to enter Parliament, has only a three-vote majority, and that would evaporate if he tried to reprimand or oust a growing number of miscreants and late-to-the-party rebels.

Chief among them is Nikitas Kaklamanis, 67, who was a one-man train wreck as Mayor of Athens from 2007-10, a tenure marked by his flitting around to the theater while the city disintegrated around him, which would have made him perfect for A Night at the Opera but not as a manager of the nation’s capital.

Since politicians in Greece never die nor fade away, after he was beaten by New York-born George Kaminis – who was backed by a coalition of leftist parties including PASOK but quickly wised up and became an Independent – Kaklamanis found a home in the Parliament where he was content for a few years taking orders from Samaras on how to vote.

A doctor who didn’t take the sage advice not to treat himself, in this case for constant bouts of screaming ineptitude, he’s decided he wants his old job back. The only problem is that Samaras has anointed Aris Spiliotopoulos, 47, another water carrier for the party, to be backed by New Democracy to take on Kaminis, who’s proved to be a capable administrator even as Samaras has kept cutting his budget.

With another of his MP’s already under the spotlight for allegedly being involved in a bad loan scheme when he was working for a municipality, and another being looked at for allegedly stashing money in secret foreign bank accounts at the same time the government was urging people during a crushing economic crisis to be patriotic and keep their money in Greece, Samaras didn’t need the distraction of Kaklamanis running against his own party.

Since he can’t run as New Democracy’s candidate – at the same time he’s a New Democracy MP – Kaklamanis will put together a temporary political group (party) so he can run against his party’s candidate and, by proxy, himself.

What Groucho Kaklamanis has done in challenging Chico Spiliotopoulos has effectively given an outside shot at neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris, who’s crazy as a loon, to have a shot at winning this thing because the two New Democracy candidates are going to split the vote from the right.

If that’s not enough to weaken the right, the Independent Greeks, made up of New Democracy rejects and ejects, said it’s backing Vassilis Kapernaros – who’s also being audited for allegedly sending money out of the country for its choice. But wait – there’s more.

READ THE FINE PRINT

Two more New Democracy outcasts, now Independent deputies Vyron Polydoras and Costas Zois, who launched a new political party, Union for the Homeland and the People, have reportedly invited Alexia Evert, daughter of late Miltiadis Evert, a former New Democracy President, to be its candidate. That means she’d be running against her father’s own party too. Pretty soon you’re going to need a program to keep track of this.

Kaklamanis is going to sing his platform and it goes something like this: “The last time I ran this place I didn’t know what to do with it. If you think this city’s bad off now, just wait til I get through with it.”

A bewildered Samaras, who’s trying to keep the Troika of the European Union-International Monetary Fund-European Central Bank (EU-IMF-ECB) at bay with one hand while trying to tame his unruly party members with the other, can’t do much about it because he needs every vote.

All he could say when asked about Groucho and Chico running against each other was, “Whoever stands, stands.” With leadership like that you can bet it won’t be a New Democracy candidate. Where’s LBJ when you need him?

Spiliotopoulos reportedly even wasn’t Samaras’ first choice as it was said that Tourism Minister Olga Kefaloyianni, who’s easy on the eyes indeed and by most accounts has helped produce record tourism just when the country needs money the most, turned down his invitation.

So now all Samaras has done in anointing a reluctant candidate and letting Kaklamanis spit in the Prime Minister’s face instead of being told to sit back down and collect his $10,000 a month or be booted for good reasons – not for defying orders to back austerity – is embolden Kasidiaris, who was arrested along with other Golden Dawn leaders and henchmen on charges of running a criminal gang.

You can bet that Little Adolf Kasidiaris already imagines himself being Mayor of Athens and ordering a roundup of immigrants to be executed in Syntagma Square or put on boats and pushed out to sea toward Africa or the Middle East after looking at the Chinese Fire Drill that is New Democracy.

The Capitalists like to poke fun, with much good reason, at the major opposition Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA), a motley collection of Communists, anarchists, Maoists, Trotskyites, Stalinists and Che Guevara admirers and Fidel Castro suck-ups for being discombobulated but this New Democracy debacle makes SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras look like J. Robert Oppenheimer.

So let Groucho Kaklamanis and Chico Spiliotopoulos settle this by meeting and going over the contract for who’s running for what. It will go something like this:

Kaklamanis: Now pay particular attention to this first clause, because it’s most important. There’s the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part. How do you like that, that’s pretty neat eh?

Spiliotopoulos: No, that’s no good.

Kaklamanis: What’s the matter with it?

Spiliotopoulos: I don’t know, let’s hear it again.

Kaklamanis: So the party of the first part shall be known in this contract as the party of the first part.

Spiliotopoulos: Well it sounds a little better this time.

Kaklamanis: Well, it grows on you. Would you like to hear it once more?

Spiliotopoulos: Just the first part.

Kaklamanis: What do you mean, the party of the first part?

Spiliotopoulos: the first part of the party, of the first part.

At that point, they throw up their hands and decide New Democracy doesn’t have a party of the first part or second part, and doesn’t really have a party at all.

They tried to throw in a sanity clause at the end but everyone knows there’s no sanity clause, especially in Greece.

Please post more than just a link, we don't need another Tom Harris.

Rise of far right in Greece worries mainstream

Quote:
ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Reeling from a vicious financial crisis that has cost them pensions and jobs, Greeks have been turning away in droves from the mainstream politicians they feel have let them down. Another political force is trying to tap the void, with blunt promises to "clean up" the country.

It's one that could see Europe's most extreme far right deputies take up seats in Greece's Parliament in crucial May 6 elections.

Black-clad Golden Dawn members have been storming across the campaign trail across Greece, stopping to chat at cafes and shops, handing out fliers promising security in crime-ridden neighborhoods - and vowing to kick out immigrants.

Greece's borders, they say, must be sealed with land mines to stop illegal crossing into a country that became the entry point for 90 percent of the European Union's illegal migrants. Authorities estimate there are about 1 million migrants living in this country of 11 million.

Appealing to populist sentiment, Golden Dawn has been gathering donations of food and clothing to deliver to the needy while pledging to make politicians accountable for the crisis. Ordinary Greeks are struggling under tough conditions demanded for rescue loan deals that have pushed the country into a fifth year of recession.

"Golden Dawn stands against this corrupt system of power. All those who are responsible for the waste of public money must go to jail. That is our priority," said Ilias Kasidiaris, a 31-year-old party member who served in the Greek army's special forces.

Around him, the party offices in downtown Athens were a hive of activity, with newcomers dropping in and the membership list growing by the day. In the back, T-shirts and caps are for sale marked with the party logo, taken from the ancient Greek meander, a motif resembling the swastika and often seen on ancient mosaics, carvings and wall paintings.

Firmly on the fringe of the right since it first appeared 20 years ago, Golden Dawn garnered a meager 0.23 percent in the 2009 elections. Now, it looks set to easily win more than the 3 percent threshold needed to enter Parliament, with recent opinion polls showing support at about 5 percent.

The party has a barely veiled sinister side, and has been blamed for vicious attacks on immigrants. Members skirt questions about violence, saying they have no knowledge of such incidents.

"We don't do anything, we protect the Greeks," said Epaminondas Anyfantis, a mild-mannered, 59-year-old candidate who looks the antithesis of many of the young, muscled and shaven-headed members. "Now, if in protecting the Greeks, a foreigner might get a slap or a kick or something, I think that's in the framework of the protection of the Greeks. ... Because unfortunately the Greeks at the moment have come to the point of asking Golden Dawn for protection."

With parts of central Athens turning into ghetto-like neighborhoods where drug users inject openly and muggings and burglaries are regular events, many have lost confidence in the police.

Giorgos Vardzis, who lives in the small seaside town of Artemida, has taken down the numbers of Golden Dawn members in case of emergencies.

"Who else should I call, the police? ... When you ask for help from the police because you're being killed, you have to be killed first, and then the police will come," he said.

Immigrants are increasingly concerned.

"We are worried very much," said Javed Aslam, the head of the Pakistani community in Greece, during a recent anti-racist demonstration. "This is very bad. You can imagine one political party with weapons, with knives, they are going out in the roads, and this is politics? This is not politics!"

Led by Nikolas Mihaloliakos, who won a seat on the Athens city council in 2010 local elections and shocked Greeks by delivering a fascist salute in his first appearance there, Golden Dawn rejects the neo-Nazi label, pointing out that many of their fathers fought the Germans during the Nazi occupation of Greece.

"We are Greek nationalists. Nothing more and nothing less than that," said Kasidiaris.

But they don't hide their admiration for many of Hitler's policies, saying he eliminated unemployment in Germany. Golden Dawn members often give fascist salutes at marches and rallies featuring nationalist slogans and burning torches, pictures of which adorn walls in party offices.

And they are tapping into a deep well of discontent with the parties that have dominated Greek politics for decades, conservative New Democracy and socialist PASOK.

"Our children have no jobs. They cut my husband's pension," said Evlambia Spantidaki, sitting on the porch of a friend's house in Artemida. "For a while I voted New Democracy. I changed and voted for PASOK. But now nothing, none of them."

This year, her vote will go to Golden Dawn.

"All those people who are following us at the moment, let's be realistic ... they didn't suddenly become nationalists from one minute to the next," said Giorgos Germenis, a member of the party's political council responsible for ideology. He is running as a Golden Dawn candidate in the wider Athens area. "It is a vote of protest. They find confidence in the face of Golden Dawn, that it will enter Parliament and really shake up the system."

With none of its more than 220 candidates, bar its leader, a recognized politician, the party also plays to voters disillusioned with the political elite.

"We will never become politicians. We are soldiers and we will die soldiers," said Anyfantis. "We are soldiers fighting for a cause."

In a country that suffered famine under Nazi occupation and saw arbitrary detentions and torture under the 1967-74 military dictatorship, the party's growing popularity has alarmed many.

"I have been surprised and very worried by the explosion in the opinion polls of Golden Dawn, the most extreme form of the extreme right," Athens University political science professor Ilias Nicolacopoulos said shortly after elections were declared in mid-April.

So the mainstream has been scrambling to win back the right-wing vote, putting immigration at the top of the agenda. Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysohoidis has pledged to build detention centers for 30,000 illegal immigrants by 2014, with the first one to open within days. Police have raided migrant apartments, and legislation now allows authorities to force migrants to have health checks and medical treatment.

Immigrant groups say there has been a spike in racist violence recently.

"There is a worrying trend of racist attacks directed against non-EU foreigners in Greece," said Ketty Kehagioglou, UNHCR spokeswoman in Athens. "In times of instability it is always easy to look for scapegoats and extremist groups take advantage of this situation."

In an Athens hospital ward, Pakistani migrant Mohammad lies propped up on a bed, his right arm in a cast, stitches in the back of his head, his nose broken - the result of a severe beating one recent Sunday night by a group of about 25 men armed with wooden bats and iron rods, he said.

Across town in a small one-bedroom flat, his friend Ahmad is recovering from head and hand injuries from the same attack.

"They just asked 'what's your country?' and then they start beating us. ... With hands and wood and the iron rod," Ahmad said. Neither had spoken to the police about the incident. Fearing reprisals, they asked for only their first names to be used.

For their part, Golden Dawn seem confident of taking up parliamentary seats after May 6 - even if it is on a protest vote.

"That is why the whole system is fighting us," said Anyfantis. "Because they are afraid that when we get into Parliament, the Greek people will understand that we are neither a gang, nor Nazis, nor children of Hitler. ... We are just Greek patriots, we love our country. We are prepared even to sacrifice ourselves for our beliefs, for the country, for its people."

Hail Hellas!

every Greek friend and relative I have is Nationalist..

but also a bit cynical in they think the system is so corruptt it will always oppose those with true Greek interest at heart;

"A great-hearted and noble people, filled with genius and energy, they seized upon the resources in labor, material, and land which their conquest of the conservative Mediterranean world offered, and they wrought one of the most progressive civilizations this earth has yet seen. Indeed, many of their creations remain unsurpassed to this day."

Question Can We WN Americans Support Our Brothers Overseas?

Is it possible for us American WNs to support the Golden Dawn and other European WN parties in our ancestral homelands? That would really be the most patriotic thing we can do for our heritage, folk and nations!

Against Golden Dawn in Melbourne

international | anti-fascism | press release Monday February 25, 2013 19:08 by Greek-Australian anarchist antifascists

Brendan O'Connor, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship: Refuse Visas to Golden Dawn members coming to Australia

For the past two years, Golden Dawn has unleashed a wave of terror and violence in the streets of every major city and region in Greece. In May 2011, they unleashed a wave of mob violence against immigrants in the centre of Athens and since national elections in May and July, their violence has only intensified; many migrants have been killed and injured by Golden Dawn activists and sympathisers.

Apart from their extreme racism and violence, the party is viciously homophobic and authoritarian, frequently attacking political activists and artists.

Recent reports have confirmed Golden Dawn members have been collecting and hiding weapons as well as engaging in military training, raising the terrifying prospect of a Golden Dawn militia marching through Athens and Thessaloniki.

As their influence grows and their violence intensifies in Greece, Golden Dawn is now seeking to spread to the Greek diaspora by attempting to open an office in New York and in Nuremberg. Now reports have emerged that Golden Dawn are close to opening an office in Melbourne and that members of their Greek leadership plan to travel to Australia in order to cut the ribbon at their new office

http://neoskosmos.com/news/en/uproar...wn-set...ffice

This violent, racist, authoritarian movement has no place anywhere, but while Greece is unable or unwilling to prevent them from growing, the Australian government is in a position to prevent their members from spreading their fascist poison here.

We call on the Immigration Minister, Brendan O'Connor, to refuse visas to the following members of of Golden Dawn that seek to come to Australia, for any purpose, on character grounds:

Nikos Michaloliakos
Eleni Zaroulia
Giorgos Germenis
Ilias Panagiotaros
Konstantinos Mparmparousis
Ioannis Lagos
Nikos Kouzilos
Ilias Kasidiaris
Nikos Michos
Antonis Gregos
Polyvios Zisimopoulos
Dimitris Koukoutsis
Panagiotis Iliopoulos
Efstathios Mpoukouras
Crysovalantis Alexopoulos
Nikitas Siois
Christos Pappas
Michalis Arvanitis

Beyond refusing entry to any of their members, we call for a movement of Greek-Australians and the wider community to fight the presence of Golden Dawn in our society ,as part of a broader anti-fascist movement, to prevent them from spreading their influence within the Greek community and threatening the multicultural society that Greek-Australians and other migrants have fought to defend.

Former Swedish MP: I was gay-bashed on vacation in Greece

SDGLN Staff

April 8th, 2013

Swedish actor and former MP Tasso Stafilidis says he was gay-bashed while vacationing in Greece.

ATHENS, Greece Swedish actor and former MP Tasso Stafilidis tells a Swedish newspaper that he and a friend were gay-bashed while on vacation in Greece.

Stafilidis, who is of Greek heritage, said three masked men confronted them on the street, first yelling anti-gay slurs at them and then kicking and punching them.

Our first thought was that they would rob us, he told Aftonbladet.

The victims suffered bruises and cuts to the body and the head.

Stafilidis was the first openly gay member of Parliament, and he served from 1998 to 2006. The 41-year-old is now out of politics and is operations manager of the Gothenburg Culture Festival and operations manager for West Pride, LGBTQ Festival, according to Aftonbladet.

In the article, Stafilidis said that Greeces economic crisis has stirred up a wave of right-wing extremism. A neo-Nazi party called Golden Dawn, which is anti-gay and anti-immigrant, won 18 seats in the Greek Parliament in the last election. The former MP ties the economic crisis to growing intolerance in Greece.

These things go hand-in-hand when a countrys prosperity collapses, he said.

The phantom menace

Who are Golden Dawn in Melbourne? A 200 strong political party as mainstream media claim or is it one person blurting rhetoric and propaganda from a hotmail account?

8 Apr 2013

Australian media - as well as international press - have this week reported on Greek political party Golden Dawn's presence in Melbourne. The reports - armed with Nazi rhetoric and subsequent fear - have informed mainstream Australians that a Greek Nazi party has formed in Australia. But should we be concerned by this said 'presence' when we don't know who Golden Dawn in Melbourne really are?

"This is nothing more than misinterpreted information," Nicholas Kotsiras, Minister for Multiculturalism and Citizenship, tells Neos Kosmos. "It is wrong and simply propaganda in an attempt to win some sympathy."
He said that Golden Dawn has "no place in Greece" and is not and will never be welcomed in Melbourne.

The media reported that the Greek far-right political party had in fact set up a Melbourne chapter. And where did they get this information from? A letter sent to the media - including Neos Kosmos - from a hotmail account.

The letter sent by 'Golden Dawn Melbourne' was in response to an article in The Age entitled Ban sought on far-right Greek party about a petition signed by Immigration Minister Brendan O'Connor to prevent the entry into Australia by 18 Golden Dawn parliamentarians from Greece.

In the letter, Golden Dawn Melbourne said they had set up a chapter in Melbourne to "raise awareness of the current political situation in Greece to Greek Australians".

However, Neos Kosmos has contacted this email address, on a number of occasions, to clarify details about the party, such as names and total members involved, and the response has been that a solicitor of the party will contact us with the details. Even in the letter, Golden Dawn Melbourne mentioned that if journalists continued to "harass individual members" of the party, they would face legal action. Problem is, no one knows who these individual members - if they are in fact members (plural) - are.

"Golden Dawn is an embarrassment and an insult to Hellenism and what Greece has stood for and fought for over the years," said Mr Kotsiras.

Even though the letter suggested a list of facts by the party, including "If it is OK for Israel to have only Jews as its citizens, then I'm sure the oldest race in the world, the Hellenic race, has a right to only have Hellenes in our country as citizens", when this is simply untrue, the facts that we have are:

* all communication from Golden Dawn comes from one email, a hotmail account, that anyone can open. An account that any person with internet access can create using any name chosen by them. For example, you can go out right now and open a Hotmail account entitled [email protected] because you like bananas. Because of this, we can not confirm that Golden Dawn are in fact a 'party' as such. For all we know, it could just be coming from one person.

* the reports suggested that Golden Dawn's Melbourne chapter was alive and, literally, kicking this year when they 'hijacked' the Greek National Independence Day and clashes ensued. The truth? There were four people at the march wearing Golden Dawn paraphernalia who stood on the sidelines and watched - hardly a hijack and clash now is it?

* the reports misquoted Neos Kosmos saying that the Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard will not be banning the 18 Greek Golden Dawn MPs from entering the country. Even the PM herself has the nous not to give a political party, made up of archaic and dangerous nationalist ideologies, any legs.

The truth is we have no proof that Golden Dawn actually exists in Melbourne, that they have a party. A few people seen at a march wearing a Golden Dawn jumper should hardly ignite concern and fear that they will create - or have created - a chapter here. After all, their policies on immigration go against the very grain, the very nature of Greek Australian existence in the Antipodes. Hypocrisy at its best; thy name is Golden Dawn.
