Palestinians fear Netanyahu may escape internal crisis by launching war on Gaza

The Netanyahu government has so far externalized its ongoing crisis through its military campaign on the West Bank, but Palestinians in Gaza fear that it might ultimately resort to war to cripple the Israeli protest movement.

BY TAREQ S. HAJJAJ MARCH 17, 2023

Palestinians in Gaza are closely following the ongoing Israeli protests against the current Netanyahu government’s proposed judicial overhaul. Many in Gaza believe that if Netanyahu’s crisis continues to escalate, he will do what Israeli governments have always done to escape an internal crisis: launch a war against “the enemy.” The most convenient target has usually been Gaza.

Like it has many times before, Israel may very well use Gaza to force Israeli protestors off the streets. These predictions have been compounded by the fact that Hamas has publicly stated that it is anticipating a war during the holy month of Ramadan less than a week away.

Analysts have commented that if Palestinian factions in Gaza were to respond to an Israeli provocation in the next month, it would offer the Netanyahu government the pretext it needs to throw a wrench in the burgeoning Israeli protest movement. It might even allow Netanyahu to cause enough disorientation in the movement to allow him to implement his legislative overhaul.

Gallup poll: support for Palestinians continues to grow among Democratic voters

For the first time, Democratic voters sympathize more with Palestinians than Israelis, according to an annual Gallup poll.

BY MICHAEL ARRIA MARCH 17, 2023

CNN REPORTING ON A FEBRUARY 2023 POLL SHOWING SUPPORT FOR PALESTINIANS RISING AMONG DEMOCRATS. (SCREENSHOT: CNN)

For the first time, Democratic voters sympathize more with Palestinians than Israelis, according to Gallup’s annual poll on U.S. attitudes toward the Middle East.

56% of Democrats view Israel favorably, but that’s down from 63% in 2022. 49% of Democrats said their sympathies lie with Palestinians, while 38% said they sympathize with Israelis.

A wide majority of Republicans remain committed to the United States closest ally, with 78% sympathizing with Israelis and just 11% siding with Palestinians. However, support for Israel among Americans has hit its lowest point in years. 54% of U.S. adults say they sympathize with Israelis, the smallest percentage since 2005. The poll notes that 2023 is the first time that Israel has not enjoyed a better than 2-to-1 advantage over Palestine in this poll.

Former US marine seriously injured in West Bank shooting attack in Huwara

BY BEN SALES MARCH 19, 2023 7:11 PM

(JTA) — An Israeli-American former U.S. Marine was seriously injured in a terror attack in the Palestinian West Bank village of Huwara.

David Stern, a resident of the Israeli West Bank settlement of Itamar, was driving through the village with his wife when a Palestinian gunman shot at their car. Stern was hit in his head and shoulder and fired back at the attacker, according to Israeli reports. He was taken to a hospital and his condition has since stabilized. His wife has also been treated for traumatic shock.

Stern is well known as a martial arts instructor in Itamar, a settlement of about 1,400 that in 2011 was the site of a brutal murder of five members of a Jewish family inside their home.
(...)
The attack comes three weeks after two Israeli brothers, Hallel and Yagel Yaniv, were killed in a previous shooting attack while driving on the same road in Huwara. Following that attack, dozens of Israeli settlers rioted in Huwara, burning buildings and injuring residents. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the village to be wiped out, a statement that sparked international condemnation, and which Smotrich has since repeatedly walked back.

Munich says it can’t block Roger Waters concert

BY DAVID I. KLEIN MARCH 23, 2023 5:50 PM

(JTA) — Weeks after the city of Frankfurt canceled a Roger Waters concert over his anti-Israel activism, the mayor of Munich says he cannot find legal standing to do the same.

“We do not currently see any legally secure possibility … to reverse the decision already made,” said Mayor Dieter Reiter, according to Deutsche Welle. “I do not want to have him [Waters] here, but now we’re going to have to endure it.”
(...)
“The background to the cancellation is the persistent anti-Israel behavior of the former Pink Floyd frontman, who is considered one of the most widely spread antisemites in the world,” the city said in a statement.

Waters has for years been a vocal leader of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel, calling on fellow artists to avoid performing there. He has in recent months defended Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which led to cancellations of some of his concerts in Poland.

‘Butcher of Tantura’, who bragged about murdering Palestinians, dies

Saturday, 25 March 2023 6:33 PM [ Last Update: Saturday, 25 March 2023 6:33 PM ]

By Syed Zafar Mehdi

The ‘Butcher of Tantura’, who often bragged about murdering unarmed Palestinians after invading their small hamlet on the Mediterranean coast in the summer of 1948, is dead. He was 96.

Amitzur Cohen was groomed as part of the Zionist terrorist group Lehi and went on to carry out some of the most horrendous crimes against humanity, including the Tantura massacre.

After the illegitimate Zionist entity came into existence in May 1948 as part of the British project to colonize Palestine, hundreds of Palestinian villages and cities were ethnically cleansed and destroyed.

On the intervening night of May 22-23, the Palestinian coastal village of Tantura with a population of around 1,500 was among the last to be ambushed and occupied by the Israeli army’s Alexandroni Brigade, leaving behind a trail of death and destruction.

In his book ‘The birth of the Palestinian refugee problem’, historian Benny Morris writes that the occupying regime forces took the decision to “expel or subdue” native Palestinians in Tantura.

A communique issued by the Israeli military a day after the Tantura massacre brazenly boasted that “hundreds of Arabs and a large quantity of booty fell into our hands”.

Israeli troops, extremists storm al-Aqsa mosque, force out Muslim worshipers

Muslim worshipers have been forced out of the sacred al-Aqsa mosque as Israeli forces and extremists stormed the vicinity of the mosque on the fourth day of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Video footage circulating online showed that Israeli soldiers and extremist illegal settlers forced Muslims from the holy place late on Sunday.

The large groups of Israeli radicals – whose incursion on Sunday came during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan – were under Israeli forces’ protection.

According to Wafa news agency, the Palestinian foreign ministry called for forcing Israel to comply with its commitments and “halt violations of holy sites in al-Quds, including al-Aqsa Mosque, before it is too late.”

The ministry termed the Israeli assault on worshipers inside al-Aqsa as “a serious escalation” and held Tel Aviv fully responsible for its consequences.

For Muslims, al-Aqsa represents the world’s third-holiest site.

Evident desecration: Israeli settlers drink alcohol, urinate in al-Aqsa Mosque

Friday, 20 January 2023 4:51 PM [ Last Update: Friday, 20 January 2023 5:18 PM ]

A screengrab from a video shows Israeli settlers drinking in desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque, January 19, 2023.

Newly-released footage shows Israeli settlers drinking alcohol and urinating in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East al-Quds.

According to footage published by the Middle East Monitor on Friday, two settlers are seen taking alcoholic drinks and another one urinating at a corner of the holy place.

The blatant acts of desecration come in continuation of Israeli provocations at the Muslims’ third holiest site.

Dozens of settlers stormed the mosque compound late on Thursday under the protection of Israeli forces. According to eyewitnesses, the radical settlers raised Israeli flags and performed provocative dances inside the vicinity.

The resistance movement Hamas called upon Palestinians from all walks of life to mobilize en masse, increase presence at the mosque’s compound, and protect the sacred site against recurrent incursions by Israeli settlers. “We hail the Palestinian people in occupied Palestinian territories and across the West Bank who stand steadfast against the Israeli occupation violations and crimes,” it said in a statement.

Young Palestinian man succumbs to Israeli gunshot wounds sustained in Nablus raid

Tuesday, 28 March 2023 7:05 AM [ Last Update: Tuesday, 28 March 2023 7:11 AM ]

A young Palestinian man has succumbed to gunshot wounds he sustained more than a month ago during an Israeli army raid in the occupied northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Palestinian medical officials and family sources early on Tuesday announced the death of Omair Loulah, adding that he was severely wounded when eleven Palestinians, including a 16-year-old, were killed and more than 80 wounded by gunfire on February 21 as Israeli troops raided the flashpoint West Bank city, drawing international appeals for calm.

At the time, widespread confrontations broke out soon after the army stormed Nablus with dozens of armored vehicles and special forces.

The army blocked off all entrances to the city, before surrounding a home with two high-profile Palestinian resistance fighters, Hossam Isleem and Mohammad Abdulghani, who were both killed.

Israeli settlers urge animal sacrifice at al-Aqsa Mosque during Jewish Passover

Friday, 31 March 2023 6:02 PM [ Last Update: Friday, 31 March 2023 6:06 PM ]

Israeli settlers have renewed their calls to be allowed to perform animal slaughter at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied East al-Quds to mark a Jewish holiday despite widespread opposition from the Muslim community and potential backlash from Palestinians.

The calls were made in a letter signed by 15 rabbis and addressed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and far-right security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Thursday, ahead of the Jewish holiday of Passover, which is set to commence on April 5 and this year coincides with the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

This is while the al-Aqsa Mosque — the third-holiest site in Islam — is forbidden to non-Muslim prayers and rituals based on decades-long international agreements.

Right-wing Israeli groups regularly call for animal sacrifice to be allowed during Passover on the holy site, which is known to Israelis as the Temple Mount.

While the Israeli cabinet has long resisted such calls for fear of a massive backlash from the global Muslim community and Palestinian people, a number of figures in the new extremist Israeli cabinet have supported allowing Jewish worship on the site

In January, Ben-Gvir entered the holy site of al-Aqsa Mosque through the Moroccan Gate, also known as the Mughrabi Gate, in a desecratory move that drew backlash from Palestinians who had labeled the act an “unprecedented provocation.”

General strike held in occupied territories over Israeli killing of Palestinian near al-Aqsa Mosque

Sunday, 02 April 2023 10:31 AM [ Last Update: Sunday, 02 April 2023 10:31 AM ]

A general strike has been held across towns and cities in the occupied Palestinian territories following the Israeli regime’s killing of a Palestinian youth near the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied Old City of al-Quds on the second Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Palestinian media said the strike, organized by the Higher Follow-up Committee for the Arab Masses in Israel, spread inside the occupied Palestinian territories on Sunday in response to the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Muhammad al-Osibi by the Israeli occupation forces near the Chain Gate, one of the entrances to the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

“The committee called for the organization of struggle vigils in various Arab towns this evening in response to the crime, after it organized vigils in a number of Arab towns yesterday evening,” Palestine’s official Wafa news agency said.

The news agency stressed that the committee plans to turn Osibi’s funeral in his hometown of Hura in the occupied Negev into a mass demonstration against “all policies of occupation, oppression and racial discrimination.”

Palestine’s Shehab news agency shared photos of the all-out strike across various towns and cities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

British cities hold Palestine rallies, demand closure of Israeli arms factories in UK

Sunday, 02 April 2023 7:49 AM [ Last Update: Sunday, 02 April 2023 8:36 AM ]

British pro-Palestinian activists have held rallies across the UK, with protesters calling for closure of Israeli weapons factories there.

Activists protesting outside an Israeli arms factory in Leicester issued a 30-day eviction notice before they take public action, rejecting the regime’s bloody crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people.

The Palestine Action activists handed a notice on Saturday under the authority of The Court (of Public Opinion) to Leicester’s Israeli arms factory, UAV Tactical Systems owned by Elbit Systems, which is Israel’s largest arms firm.

The group posted a video on its Twitter account showing a notice that provides 30 days before the site will be met by mass action on May 1st if it is not vacated, as the people of Leicester and groups and individuals from across Britain convene to force the Israeli weapons factory to close.

The site, jointly owned by Israel’s biggest weapons company Elbit Systems and by France’s Thales, manufactures drones for the British military based upon Israel’s Hermes drones, and also exports arms in large volumes directly to Israel.

Behind locked doors, the drones that are assembled by Elbit have been tested on the captive population of the besieged Gaza Strip.

'We need more education': Roger Waters’ tour exposes Germany's struggles with antisemitism

By Una Hajdari • Updated: 01/04/2023 - 07:00

Roger Waters, the legendary Pink Floyd member, has caused quite a stir in Germany.

The rockstar is set to perform on the German leg of his 2023 tour, but the cities of Frankfurt, Hamburg and Cologne have been trying to cancel his shows due to accusations of anti-Semitic rhetoric. Waters denies he is antisemitic and has threatened the cities with legal action if they halt his performances.

Waters is a prominent member of the global pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanction movement, or BDS, which aims to force Israel to withdraw from occupied territories and increase protections for Palestinians by isolating it from the global community on the economic, cultural and diplomatic level.

His views have led to the cancellation of his concerts and speaking engagements across Europe and the United States.

However, the situation in Germany is different. Munich, the former capital of the Nazi movement, has particular sensitivity towards the BDS movement that Waters supports, which calls for the boycott of Israel.
(...)
For researchers of radicalism online and in the public sphere, anti-Semitic rhetoric is tightly woven into far-right narratives that claim to promote anti-elite or anti-authoritarian themes.

“Antisemitism has somewhat of a glue factor, in that it unites and mobilises different scenes from both the far right spectrum but also among more mainstream milieus,” explained Una Titz, a researcher at the Amadeo Antonio Stiftung, a leading German NGO covering extremist activity and beliefs.

“Unlike some of the stuff you can find online, German antisemitism is more coded or cyphered, and use dog-whistles to soften the blow or make it appear less extreme,” Titz told Euronews.

Oh, and by the way, the anti-white NGO that Ms. Titz works for, the "Amadeo (sic) Antonio Stiftung", was founded by the vicious communist jew hag Anetta Kahane who has a burning hatred of her German host people and supports the third-world invasion of Europe while defending the racist, genocidal bandit state of Pissrael:

Anetta Kahane (born 1954 in East Berlin) is a German left-wing journalist, author and activist against antisemitism, racism and right-wing extremism. From 1974 to 1982 she was an unofficial collaborator for the East German Stasi secret police. In 1998 she founded the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, which she has led since 2003.
(...)
Kahane's parents Max Kahane and Doris Kahane (born Machol) were secular Jews who fled from Nazi Germany in 1933. Max Kahane fought in the Spanish Civil War against General Francisco Franco and later in the French Resistance against the Nazis.
(...)
Responding to increased racist violence in the former East Germany, in 1998 Kahane initiated the Amadeu Antonio Foundation as an organised effort to combat xenophobia, antisemitism and right-wing extremism. In 2012 she was awarded the Moses Mendelssohn prize for her work, donated by the Senate of Berlin. In July 2015, she supported the suggestion of the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann to send more refugees to the New states of Germany because, according to her, the number of people of color is too low there.[21]

Armed clashes have erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinian resistance fighters near the northern West Bank city of Jenin amid rise in Israeli violence across the occupied Palestinian territories.

Local sources said the fighting broke out on Sunday after Israeli military vehicles stormed the city of Qabatiya near Jenin.

The resistance fighters responded by shooting and throwing homemade grenades at the occupation forces.

The Qabatiya Battalion of the Islamic Jihad’s al-Quds Brigades said in a statement that the Palestinian fighters had managed to foil the Israeli raid.

The battalion said that it will not allow the Zionist regime to freely attack Qabatiya.

Additionally, the resistance fighters opened fire at the Beit Furik checkpoint east of the West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday.

Israel has ramped up its violence against Palestinians across the occupied West Bank during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Firefighters try to extinguish a fire caused by a rocket fired from Lebanon near the northern occupied town of Shlomi.

At least 30 rockets have reportedly been launched from southern Lebanon into the Israeli-occupied territories in retaliation for raids by Israeli forces that stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound overnight and attacked Palestinian worshipers as they were observing the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the Israeli public broadcaster KAN, the projectiles slammed into the Western and Upper Galilee areas in the northern part of the territories, with some causing injuries and damage.

Israel's military said it had "identified 34 rockets that were fired from Lebanese territory into Israeli territory".

"Five rockets landed in Israeli territory," added the military statement that followed the attack, which was not immediately claimed by any group.

At least two Israeli settlers have been killed and another is seriously wounded after they came under a shooting attack in the northern part of the West Bank, amid heightened tensions across the occupied Palestinian territories after Israeli forces violently stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and attacked Palestinian worshipers.

According to the Israeli ZAKA emergency service and local officials, the women were shot at near the illegal settlement of Hamra in the Jordan Valley on Friday. Two of the three settlers later succumbed to their gunshot wounds.

The Israeli military announced in a statement that troops are searching for suspects who opened fire at the car, causing it to crash.

Tensions are remaining high in al-Quds since Israeli forces attacked worshipers in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound overnight on Wednesday, during the holy month of Ramadan. The raid on the sacred site left at least 12 Palestinians injured.

Iran urges global action against Israel over aggression on Gaza, Lebanon

Iran has condemned the latest atrocities committed by the Israeli regime against civilians in southern Lebanon and the besieged Gaza Strip, urging the international community and responsible global bodies to take “effective and deterrent” action against Israel.

In a statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani said the latest acts of Israeli aggression were in continuation of the desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of al-Quds and the regime’s savage attacks on Palestinian worshipers inside the mosque’s compound.

The Thursday attacks violated Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and blatantly breached the principles of international law and human rights of the oppressed Palestinian people, he said.

Israeli warplanes hit targets inside Gaza following the firing of retaliatory rockets from the direction of the coastal strip over the regime’s attacks on Palestinian worshippers inside al-Aqsa.

President Raeisi calls for Muslim convergence against Israeli atrocities

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has called for a convergence in the Muslim world against the atrocities of the Israeli regime as the occupation forces assaulted defenseless worshippers at al-Aqsa Mosque.

During a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, Raeisi strongly slammed the recent attacks of the Israeli forces against al-Aqsa Mosque as a desecration of the holy place. He also slammed Israeli aggressions on Syria and Lebanon.

Raeisi reiterated the call for holding an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss ways to confront the brutal actions of the Israeli regime.

Stressing the need to respect the territorial integrity of regional countries, Raeisi said the most important approach to confront terrorism and separatism is to support the national sovereignty of states.

For his part, Erdogan called for Muslim unity to support Palestine. "The Islamic world should be united against Israel's attacks in Palestine," he said, according to the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications.
https://www.presstv.ir/Detail/2023/0...eli-atrocities

The Iranians are a fairly honorable people (by Middle Eastern standards, which I guess isn't saying much) and I'm sure they're sincere in their support for the Palestinians. The Turks, on the other hand, are generally speaking scum, and Erdogan is an opportunistic and untrustworthy piece of shit.

1 dead, 7 injured in Tel Aviv shooting, car-ramming operations

At least one person has been killed and many more injured in separate shooting and car-ramming operations in Tel Aviv in the occupied territories.

The operations took place in the coastal city on Friday.

The shooting incident injured two people in the promenade area in central Tel Aviv, the Israeli regime's Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service reported, adding that the suspected attacker had been "neutralized."

The shooting operation was followed shortly by a car-ramming incident elsewhere in the city, during which one person was killed and seven others were injured.

The MDA said in a statement a man aged about 30 had been declared dead and five others were taken to hospital with moderate injuries after the car-ramming attack.

"All the victims were tourists," it added, without providing details on their nationalities.

A police spokesman, meanwhile, told AFP that the attacker in the second incident had also been "neutralized."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the mobilization of the regime's police and army reserves following the second attack, his office said in a statement.

Earlier on Friday, at least two Israeli settlers were killed and another one was seriously wounded after they came under a shooting attack in the northern part of the Tel Aviv-occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank.
