Default Bismarck biography ?

Does anyone know of a good biography of Otto von Bismarck? Most of them are written by Germanophobes and are little more than propaganda, like the Jew written one that came out a few years ago. Has anyone EVER written an objective biography of him?

I would suggest Bismarck and the German Empire by Erich Eyck (first edition 1949). It is a complete account of his career without being overlong.

The only shortcoming is that it does not include a comprehensive examination of Bismarck's conflicted and contentious views on, and relations with, the Jews. But you really can't find a current biography of any major historical personality that would treat this subject honestly.

I don't know if Eyck's book is still in print, but you should be able to pick up a used copy for a few dollars.

One of the reviews on Amazon describes the author as "clearly biased against Bismarck". Would you agree with this? Have you ever read Emil Ludwig's Bio of Bismarck? If so, what did you think of it?

I did not find the Eyck biography of Bismarck to be biased against him in any way. Rather, I found it to be straightforward and insightful. It is written in a scholarly style, with footnotes and references, etc.

I have not read the (((Emil Ludwig))) biography of Bismarck. I do not read books by Jews, as they arrange the facts to suit their agenda. Beyond that, I do not want my mind to be corrupted by Semitic modes of thought - that is, it is not just the content of what they write, but the logic, etc., which they employ.

I do not pay much attention to the reader reviews on Amazon or similar platforms. Basically, I do not care what some random, anonymous person has to say about a given book. I am capable of constructing my own critical framework. Besides, some of the reader reviews are dishonestly written by people with hidden agendas of their own which they seek to advance.

I know this to be true, because I know people personally who have submitted negative reviews to Amazon specifically to suppress the sale of books that present a viewpoint with which they disagree.

And so it goes.

Since WWII it is almost impossible to find an objective book on any German subject. Since Ludwig's biography was written before Hitler or the war I thought it might be OK.

During the Second World War (((Ludwig))) suggested to the Allied leadership that they threaten the civilian population of Germany that they must either rise up and overthrow Hitler or face “retaliation” after the War. The Jew Ludwig was a bloodthirsty and merciless hater of the German folk.

Default Bismarck biography?

Not books here, but two films you might find interesting are the German film Bismarck (1940), a popular film about Bismarck's creating the Reich, starring Paul Hartmann. It is a lot of fun, and also has some digs at "democracy" where Bismarck bests the Prussian parliament, as well as the machinations of Louis Napoleon.

A second film, Die Entlassung (The Dismissal), deals with an older Bismarck replaced by Wilhelm II. Emil Jannings plays Bismarck, released in 1942, and considered very accurate. Wilhelm II is shown as petty, and in truth the Nazis weren't too fond of him, as Hitler certainly wasn't. Whatever you can say about Hitler, he had no interests in restoring the monarchy.

I got both films through IHF, with English subtitles.
