Default Boeing Starliner OFT-2 Launch (Official NASA Broadcast)

Quote:
Starliner is preparing for liftoff! At 6:54 p.m. EDT (22:54 UTC) on Thursday, May 19, Boeing's spacecraft launches aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket on a demonstration flight that gets it one step closer to certification to carry astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

The Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT) launch is from Space Launch Complex-41 on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. OFT-2 will demonstrate the end-to-end capabilities of the Starliner spacecraft and Atlas V rocket, from launch to docking to a return to Earth in the desert of the western United States. This is the second uncrewed flight test of Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner spacecraft for our Commercial Crew Program.

I hope it's more successful this time after the problem-filled OFT-1 in 2019.

Launch starts around 55:00 minutes into the video. A good launch and orbital insertion. If this flight is successful and Starliner docks with ISS, the next flight should have astronauts aboard.

More problems with Starliner:

Would you fly on this piece of shit?

Fuck Boeing. An incompetent, failed company that has sucked off lucrative government contracts for far too long and needs to go out of business. Apparently, they didn't fire their H-1B dothead so-called engineers who caused all the problems on the first test flight. This vehicle should probably be canceled before it kills someone.

Sierra Nevada Corp. should have their Dreamchaser lifting-body mini-shuttle flying within a year, with hopefully a manned version after that, since Starliner is a failure.

This is another example of the collapse of the KWA brought on by a shrinking White population, its industrial base imploding and a corrupt government run by niggers and jews. Maybe NASA should just buy some surplus old reliable Soyuz spacecraft from Russia.

I guess NASA figured it was safe to do so. Those malfunctioning orbital maneuvering and control (OMAC) rockets are not needed for docking but could be a problem for the deorbit burn. Deorbit can still be done using the RCS thrusters, but clearly, they still have some technical glitches on this craft that need to be worked out before crew can be safely flown in it.

Amazing that back in 1981 the first Space Shuttle flight was flown manned, the first time NASA ever did that with a new manned spacecraft. Even on that first flight, Columbia lost several thermal tiles and a maueuvering thruster failure I believe, but not enough to jeopardize re-entry. Of course 22 years later, it was the foam strike from the external tank that doomed Columbia.

I think the reason was that, unlike the Buran, the Space Shuttle was not designed to fly autonomously. And, speaking of the Buran, although it never flew in space with a crew, it did have a lot more crewed atmospheric test flights than Enterprise did.

I remember when Columbia came back in April 1981 with all those thermal tiles missing, my first thought was that, one of these days, that thing was going to burn up during reentry. That turned out to be right.

Despite my criticism of Starliner, it's still good to see this vehicle in space. So very reminiscent of Apollo. I still hope Boeing will get it together and fix it. The Apollo CSM made four unmanned test flights before it was deemed ready for astronauts starting with Apollo 7. But to be fair, NASA was also testing the Saturn boosters where Atlas V is a proven vehicle. Re-entry and landing went good on OFT-1, at least, it should on this flight. So, we will see if there will be an OFT-3 after this or go ahead with the Crew-1 mission later this year. Also, I'm looking forward to Artemis 1 to the Moon in a couple more months, hopefully.
