Comet Holmes- A Comet that blew up has expanded to the diameter of the sun. We are expect to see a (hopefully non threatening) meteor shower in about spring of next year from this comets particles.

A view of Comet Holmes from earth. I've never seen it though. Apparently if you look East you’re supposed to be able to see it with the naked eye like this photo implies.

The death of a Galaxy- Galaxy mergers. Because of gravity, these two galaxies will form to become one. The smaller galaxy will usually be destroyed only to make the larger one even bigger. It is said that our galaxy is going throught this phenomenon right now! Of course the completion of this merger takes millions of years.

The Pelican Nebula. the ridge spans about 10 light-years following the curve of the cosmic pelican's head and neck. This false color view also translates the pervasive glow of narrow emission lines from atoms in the nebula to a color palette made popular in Hubble Space Telescope images of star forming regions. Fantastic, dark shapes inhabiting the 1/2 degree wide field are clouds of cool gas and dust sculpted by the winds and radiation from hot, massive stars. Close-ups of some of the sculpted clouds show clear signs of newly forming stars.

Great pictures. I saw Comet Holmes before I read about it and couldn't figure out what it was. I'm a little familiar with the objects in the night sky so it certainly caught my attention when I saw it. Makes you wonder what kind of impact or other event caused that.

One of the most colorful galaxies ever found 20million lightyears away from the constallation Leo. On a clear night it can be seen with a low powered telescope.
