I just wrapped up my 7+ days water-only fast (did 5+ days last year). Anybody else here do water-only (or other types) fasting for several days? What are your experiences?

So recently I finished my 10 days water only fast. I cheated a bit this time by adding lemon juice, mineral supplements (potassium, zinc, magnesium), Himalayan salt and trace minerals. By the end of it I felt like I could do 10 more days. 5 or so days into the fast I was pinching myself around and it seemed that fat layer under the skin didn't get any thinner. Stored fat must be incredibly energy dense. Attempting now to transition to one meal per day and ketogenic diet.

Strange... I have an urge to do it again in a few months. Water-only fasting improves health and builds character.

Few months ago I did a 12 days water (salt + mineral supplements) fast. I wanted to do full 2 weeks but they didn't want to give me enough time off work so I could have 2 days to recover. After changing to a more ketogenic diet (I still do a bit of so-called 'dirty keto') and one meal a day, I noticed that hunger is very subdued. I recall feeling much more intense hunger at work right before lunch (just because there was that expectation of eating) than at the end of my prolonged fasts. Now a 3 days water & salt only fast is a kind of a pfffffft thing for me. Cutting out (or at least reducing to bare minimum) sugar, grains and high starch foods definitely has benefits. It's just a human curse that ice-cream (fat + sugar) and fries (fat + starch/sugar) are highly addictive but terrible health wise. Saturated fat is good. You're just not supposed to have it with sugar/starch at the same time.

I read a good book about fasting called Life in the Fasting Lane. I tend to either go by the 16:8 routine,
Eating during an 8 hour period and fasting for 16 hours,
or else alternating eating one day and fasting the next.
According to the book if you fast for 24 hours you lose 1/2 a pound of fat. I have yet to try a longer fast of 5 days or longer.

i've heard something like a 14 day fast adds 5 years to your life but i'm sure there's many other factors


most of all what it does is, your Ph changes in order to melt and use fat so it slowly clears all the fat out of your arteries, it's not just the arteries in your heart that get gunked up, the arteries and vessels in your liver particularly get gunked up and you probably all have subarachnoid infarctions in the liver, lots of them by 50 which is why you get so fat.

plus if you have lots of subarachnoid infarctions in the pancreas, you have diabetes. in the brain you have dementia, you can have lots of subarachnoid infarctions in your heart too and not necessarily experience a heart attack

in the lungs, in the kidneys, subarachnoid infarctions makes your skin age

subarachnoid infarction is just a medical jargon word for strokes in the capillaries.

Just finished my 7 days fast. This time it was water + salt + apple cider vinegar + mineral supplements. I cut out lemon juice since it does contain sugar. Near the end of this fast even apple cider vinegar started to taste slightly sweet. This fast was also one of the more difficult ones. For previous prolonged fasts I took time off of work. This time I went to work for the whole week. I was a bit woozy and functioning at (estimated ballpark figure) maybe 80%. It was hard to concentrate/think. I got tired quicker especially near end of the day. One chick at a health food shop said I might faint. I didn't. Actually it went better than I expected.

Everyday I drink one cup of coffee at around 6-7AM and don't eat anything until 6PM, which is my dinner. Then I have an apple at around 8PM.

Been doing this for about 8 years. No interest in fasting. I barely eat as it is.

Before I switched to more ketogenic diet I used to eat a lot of apples. Sometimes several a day. And I ate just about the highest sugar content apple ever designed by humans - the honeycrisp. Yes, it's extra crispy, mouthwatering juicy, sweet n' sour and crunchy to the very last bite, but the sugar wrecks insulin levels. For snack switch to raspberries. Recently I started to buy more raspberries, eat some fresh and freeze the rest (so they wouldn't mold) for later.


Apples are a terrible 'food' for humans.

Few weeks ago I broke my record and did a full two weeks (14 days) fast. Some advice for those wanting to try prolonged fasts, even if it's only 3 days. Do it when it's warm outside. Also it's good to do the ketogenic diet for a few months before so the body adapts to burning/metabolizing fats for majority of energy needs rather than using sugar/glucose. Yes, there are some organs which require strictly glucose but worry not. Glucose is not an essential nutrient. Body can make as much glucose as it needs from fats and ketones. Also, break a prolonged fast with very small meals spaced, I'd say, at least 12 hours apart.
