The AK party's third term is a historic opportunity for Turkey to be a constitutional state with a fully fledged advanced democracy – a prerequisite for EU membership.

In order to achieve its goal, Turkey needs to write a new constitution.

Turkey to host NATO ground forces

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/185429.html
Quote:
Amid ongoing deadly unrest in Syria, NATO plans to turn its airbase in Turkey into a stronghold for the US-led military alliance's ground forces.

The alliance would transfer its ground forces from a military base in the city of Heidelberg in southwestern Germany and another outpost in Spain to the Izmir Air Station in western Turkey, Journal of Turkish Weekly reported earlier in the month.

The base, NATO's oldest stronghold in Turkey, currently accommodates 400 operational and technical forces.

The move constitutes a part of sweeping reforms in the alliance, which according to its Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen would ultimately "make NATO leaner, more flexible, and better able to deal with future challenges."

Egypt politician calls Erdogan a “crook”

http://english.alarabiya.net/article...18/167466.html
Quote:
Egyptian politician Talaat Sadat gave a fiery speech at the opening of his new Egypt National Party and in which he slammed Turkish and Egyptian prime ministers and downplayed the role of Islamists in the country.

“Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a crook,” Sadat said at the inauguration of his party at the Fayyoum governorate.

Sadat accused Erdogan of having a hidden agenda for visiting Egypt as part of a tour that included Libya and Tunisia, the Egyptian daily al-Youm al-Sabea reported Saturday.

“He wanted to prove to Europe and the U.S. that the keys to Egypt and its people are in Turkey’s possession until his country is able to join the European Union.”

Sadat, who is the nephew of late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, added that Erdogan is hoping to restore the power of the Ottoman Empire and to achieve more hegemony in the region.

Commenting on the Turkish prime minister’s rising influence on Muslim states and his latest stance against Israel, Sadat said he saw the opposite when he went to Turkey.

“In Turkey, women were half naked and restaurants were keen to satisfy Israeli tourists.”

Default Turkey (NATO's shiniest new toy) hits Syrian targets over "attack"

Don’t Interfere in Syria; Russia warns
MOSCOW- Russia warned NATO and other World & International powers that they should not intervene in Syria, or set up buffer zones between rebels and government forces.

Russia urged Tuesday the West not to "search for pretexts" in order to conduct direct operations in Syria while also calling on Damascus and Ankara to exercise restraint along their flashpoint border.

“In our contacts with partners in NATO and in the region, we are calling on them not to seek pretexts for carrying out a military scenario or to introduce initiatives such as humanitarian corridors or buffer zones,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told reporters in Moscow on Tuesday.

Gatilov also called for more restraint between Turkey and Syria, following Ankara’s repeated complaints against shells and artilleries that landed on its territory.

"We believe that Syrian and Turkish authorities must exercise maximum restrained in this situation, given the growing numbers of radicals in the ranks of Syrian opposition, which may provoke a conflict on the border," Gatilov said.
