Vandals strike German food bank with anti-Nazi graffiti
The non-profit in the city of Essen has found itself at the center of a national debate about xenophobia. The manager of the food bank worries that his volunteers will be too scared to show up to work. "F*** Nazis," was found written in graffiti on Sunday on some of the doors and delivery vans of a food bank in Essen, the German city west of Dortmund. The "Tafel," as it is known in German, became the subject of intense debate last week when it emerged that it was refusing to hand out new membership cards to foreigners. http://www.dw.com/en/vandals-strike-...iti/a-42737003 |

Food bank in Essen reopens doors to migrants
A German food bank on Tuesday said it will reopen its doors to new migrant clients, some three months after its decision to stop giving free meals to foreigners sparked nationwide outrage. The Essener Tafel charity in the western city of Essen said non-Germans could start registering for the service again from Wednesday. "Right now, the ratio of Germans and foreigners in need is appropriate," the group's chairman, Joerg Sartor, told the Bild daily. "If new bottlenecks occur, we will have to adapt again." https://www.thelocal.de/20180403/ger...rs-to-migrants |
