Jews around world concerned by far-right breakthrough in German election

Ronald Lauder, president of the New York-based World Jewish Congress, called Chancellor Angela Merkel a “true friend of Israel and the Jewish people” and decried the AfD’s gains at a time when anti-Semitism was increasing across the globe.

“It is abhorrent that the AfD party, a disgraceful reactionary movement which recalls the worst of Germany’s past and should be outlawed, now has the ability within the German parliament to promote its vile platform,” Lauder said.

Rabbis praise Merkel after reelection: 'A responsible leader'

Conference of European Rabbis congratulates reelection of Angerla Merkel as chancellor of Germany, says rise of far-right party worrying.

Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, the President of the Conference of European Rabbis and Rabbi of Moscow, congratulated Angela Merkel on her reelection as Chancellor of Germany Sunday.

According to Rabbi Goldschmidt, Merkel is the 'responsible' leader of the western world and the hope for Europe.

"Four years ago, Merkel received the Rabbi Jacobovitch Prize of the Conference of European Rabbis at a special ceremony in the Great Synagogue of Europe in Brussels, in recognition and gratitude from European Jewry for her steadfast adherence to the rights of Jews to freedom of religion, especially the issues of schechita and circumcision and support of the Jewish community," he said.

Not just jew dogs.

"It has been polling at 11-13 percent and could become Germany’s third strongest party, driven by anger over the influx of one million migrants and refugees, many from war-torn Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, since 2015.

“The AfD’s entry into the Bundestag marks an epochal step forward for the far right,” said Joerg Forbrig of the German Marshall Fund of the United States think-tank.

By entering parliament, he said, “the xenophobic, revisionist and anti-European political force” will have heightened visibility and access to campaign finance, dozens of offices and hundreds of staff.

The International Auschwitz Committee warned that the “conglomerate of anti-Semites, enemies of democracy and nationalistic agitators” will bring “an inhuman coldness” to the glass-domed chamber of the Reichstag building."
