Default Apollo 13 50th anniversary

Quote:
It was 50 years ago Monday (April 13) that the Apollo 13 crew famously told NASA "Houston, we've had a problem." You can celebrate the "successful failure" with a NASA documentary and other activities online.

On April 13, 1970, three astronauts on their way to the moon experienced an explosion in the service module of their spacecraft. To survive, they had to abandon their lunar landing plans and make a four-day trip home with less oxygen and water than was ideal.

Luckily, the efforts of NASA's Mission Control and teams around the world brought Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise home safely. Haise and Lovell are still alive, Swigert died of cancer in 1982.

But NASA will not hold any in-person events to commemorate the mission, due to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus. That said, there are numerous ways you can follow the mission and celebrate the anniversary online.

April 2020 also marks these space anniversaries: 59th anniversary of the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin on Vostok 1 (April 12, 1961), 39th anniversary of STS-1, the first operational space shuttle flight (April 12-14, 1981) and the 30th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope (April 24, 1990).

The only part of Apollo 13 that reached the Moon: On April 14, 1970, the Saturn V's S-IVB upper stage was intentionally impacted on the Moon north of Mare Cognitum to test properties of the lunar surface and the impact was detected by the instruments left on the Moon by the Apollo 12 astronauts. When Mission Control informed 13's crew of the successful impact, Jim Lovell dryly commented, "At least something worked on this flight."

Square peg in a round hole: Improvised CO2 scrubber the astronauts constructed via instructions from Mission Control utilizing square scrubbers from the Command Module Odyssey (the Lunar Module's were round) to function in the LM's life-support system.

Fred Haise (left), Jim Lovell, and Jack Swigert emerge from the recovery helicopter on board the aircraft carrier Iwo Jima.

Mission Control in Houston celebrates the safe return of the Apollo 13 crew. Gene Kranz is smoking a celebratory cigar on the right while Deke Slayton, in front of the mission patch, shakes hands.

Jim Lovell (left), Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert receive a phone call on board the Iwo Jima. The fact that it is a group call and that a photo was taken suggest that the call is from President Nixon.

I do not doubt our ability to observe our moon or other planets and their moons. We had that ability before Apollo.
What I find reason to doubt (many reasons) are the video and images that NASA has released and claim to be people on the actual surface of our moon. Due to numerous anomalies and even physical impossibilities that appear in the record provided by NASA. In the 1999 reenactment 'From the Earth to the Moon' NASA tried to correct the worst of these, e.g., the dust thrown up by the tires of the rover. Inexplicably stating that there was "No dust at all.", when the original 16mm video is readily available and completely contradicts the portrayal.
NASA has always claimed that no artificial lighting was used and indeed the record shows that none was taken (every ounce being accounted for). But the devil is in the details and the details of the official video and photographs demonstrate that this cannot be true.

Consider the different lengths of the astronaut's shadows. This is impossible if the shadows are being cast by light from the sun. This can only be explained by an artificial light source.

There are many instances of shadows growing or shrinking with the astronaut's proximity to the light source. Something that is impossible in sunlight and can only be the result of an artificial light source.
But there are many issues of every sort that all point to one conclusion- The events portrayed did not occur under the conditions claimed.

STOP POSTING IMAGES THAT ARE LINKED TO PORNOGRAPHIC SITES. I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO LOOK AT ANIMATED GIFS OF SEXUAL ACTS TO SEE YOUR IMAGES AT FULL SIZE.

If you're going to post stuff like this, make sure you know what you're talking about. The Lunar Module was highly reflective, so an astronaut standing right next to it could, depending on the angle, be illuminated by light reflecting off the lunar module. The reasons that the shadows are not the same length is that the moon is not flat; it has hills and valleys, but they're hard to notice in the photographs because we're not accustomed to spotting them in a vacuum, where the lighting looks different. The "backgrounds" look close because, on the moon, the horizon is much closer than it is on earth. If the mountains in the background looked very far away, that would be evidence that it may have been shot on earth.

All of this is VERY basic stuff.

timestamp at 20:50 if you want to see proof of structures on the moon, anyways Nasa has been lying to you all for decades.
The moon has structures on it, has a multi colored surface.

People think the moon landing didn't happen, its not really their fault since NASA will never actually tell people how they really got there. Create a event that have people saying you never went, and people will argue about that, rather than actually try to find out if you are lying about HOW YOU ACTUALLY got there.

There was an excellent documentary made in 1953 called "Cat Women of the Moon." It taught that the aliens are all supermodel beautiful women, all over 6 feet tall, all with very large breasts. They wear skin tight leotards.

When they come to Earth...Oh! let it be soon...they will take the strongest and most handsome men, such as myself, to be sex slaves.

The rest of you will dig ditches and eat bugs.

Well, now that this thread is starting to go downhill anyway...

The Cat Women would be nice, but I would prefer to be taken captive by one of the black-uniformed Aryan SS beauties from the secret Iron Sky base on the far side of the Moon.

Jack Swigert would have probably loved that since he was the only unmarried man on 13's crew and sort of had a reputation as a ladies man.

Good question. Sartt shows up in every serious thread about space exploration and history with this secret space program and ancient astronaut garbage. There are other sub-forums for that. But that's obviously not what he's here for, is it?
