Child killed in Ukrainian shelling – governor

The attack damaged multiple residential buildings in Tokmak, Zaporozhye Region

A Ukrainian artillery strike on Tokmak in the Russian Zaporozhye Region has killed multiple people, including a child, local governor Evgeny Balitsky confirmed on Friday.

Tokmak is a small town some 50km from the Dnieper River, which currently divides the Russian and Ukrainian-controlled areas of the region that joined Russia following a referendum in 2022.

“As a result of shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces of a Tokmak apartment district, several people were killed, including one child, while dozens of residents were seriously injured,” Balitsky said. He added that the resulting fire is currently being extinguished and the rubble cleared.

According to preliminary information, at least six people have been killed, including one child, regional administration official Vladimir Rogov said, adding that 25 private sector houses and nine multi-story buildings were left without power and gas.

New conscription wave could cause ‘panic’ in Ukraine – WaPo

The country’s parliament recently passed a bill to significantly simplify mobilization procedures

krainian leaders are unlikely to publicly acknowledge the scale of a new mobilization campaign, fearing it would send shockwaves across the country and demoralize the population, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.

The Ukrainian parliament passed a long-awaited mobilization bill this week, which is awaiting signature by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. It significantly simplifies procedures for the draft and forces all men aged 18 to 60 – including those residing abroad – to register with the military authorities.

In a last-minute move, the bill was stripped of a clause envisaging the demobilization of men who had served for three years, meaning that many troops would have to remain in the army until the conflict is over. Aleksandr Syrsky, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, reportedly lobbied for the change.

Kiev officials have signaled that they need around 500,000 troops to reinforce the frontline, although they later said that this number had been reduced.

The Washington Post noted that neither Syrsky nor Zelensky had revealed the revised figure amid what it called an “unpopular” mobilization. “Announcing that hundreds of thousands of men could be drafted risks stoking panic,” the paper argued.

Kiev’s troops feel betrayed by new conscription rules – media

Tens of thousands had hoped to be demobilized after 36 months of service

Ukrainian troops hoping to be demobilized after three years are reportedly dismayed after a provision granting them leave was left out of a newly adopted mobilization bill, multiple Western outlets claimed on Friday.

The parliament in Kiev approved the long-debated law on Thursday but without the demobilization clause, reportedly at the urging of General Aleksandr Syrsky, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces. This means that everyone drafted into the armed forces will have to serve until the conflict is over.

“It’s a disaster,” AFP quoted a 46-year-old artilleryman on the Donetsk front, identified only as Alexander.

“When a person knows when he is going to be demobilized he will have a different attitude. If he is like a slave then it will not lead to anything good,” he added.

Ukraine says it started building first US-designed nuclear reactor

Ukraine has started construction work on two US-designed reactors at a nuclear power plant in the west of the country.

The reactors, which will use US technology and fuel, are aimed at reducing Ukraine’s dependence on Russian nuclear technology, Ukrainian authorities said.

Workers at Khmelnytskyi nuclear power station poured a symbolic cubic meter of concrete for the reactors, during a ceremony on Thursday.

Addressing the ceremony, Petro Kotin, the head of Ukraine's state nuclear operator, Energoatom said, "This is our answer to the terrorists, this is our answer to the invaders.”

"Today we are talking about the future, we are talking about stability, we are talking about the development of nuclear energy.”

According to Kotin, the project is Ukraine's most significant modernization project since World War II.

Khmelnytskyi power plant already has two functioning reactors. Its reactors 3 and 4 are partially built to a Soviet design.

Ukraine at ‘serious risk’ of collapse, ex-British general warns

By the end of the year, Kiev’s forces will be struggling to “defend the indefensible,” General Sir Richard Barrons told the BBC

Retired UK general Sir Richard Barrons has told the BBC that there is “a serious risk” of Ukraine losing the conflict with Russia this year. With ammunition and manpower running low, Barrons warned that Ukrainian forces may be unable to hold back a major Russian offensive this summer.

“We are seeing Russia batter away at the front line, employing a five-to-one advantage in artillery, ammunition, and a surplus of people reinforced by the use of newish weapons,” Barrons told the British broadcaster.

“At some point this summer,” he continued, “we expect to see a major Russian offensive, with the intent of doing more than smash forward with small gains to perhaps try and break through the Ukrainian lines. And if that happens we would run the risk of Russian forces breaking through and then exploiting into areas of Ukraine where the Ukrainian armed forces cannot stop them.”

Ukrainians urged to save power

The country’s energy infrastructure has been badly damaged by Russian airstrikes

Saving electricity should become a habit for Ukrainians due to supply constraints resulting from Russian airstrikes on energy infrastructure, according to Sergey Kovalenko, the head of Yasno power provider. The firm is a subsidiary of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private power generating company.

His advice followed a Russian missile attack on Trypolsky Thermal Power Plant on Thursday, the largest electricity supplier to the city of Kiev. Ukrainian media said the facility lost 100% of its power generation capacity.

According to Kovalenko, it is important for the entire population to change its power consumption habits in order to maintain balance in the system and not overload the grid.

“Save on consumption during peak hours… From 7 to 10pm. Every single day, please save electricity. Every single day, all through 2024. Make it a habit,” he advised in a post on his Facebook page, giving a number of suggestions on ways to cut electricity use. These included replacing regular light bulbs with LEDs, turning off the light in empty rooms, taking a shower at night, setting the temperature on boilers to minimum and even heating the kettle on a gas stove instead using electric ones.

Mobilization law is ‘point of no return’ for Zelensky – Ukrainian MP

The newly passed legislation will pit Kiev against its people, Aleksandr Dubinsky has said

A new conscription law will drive a wedge between officials in Kiev and ordinary Ukrainians, lawmaker Aleksandr Dubinsky has said. He described the legislation as a point of no return for President Vladimir Zelensky and his government.

On Thursday, the Ukrainian parliament passed a long-debated law which simplifies procedures for the draft and forces all men aged 18 to 60 – including those residing abroad – to register with the military authorities. Earlier this month, after several weeks of deliberation, Zelensky signed a law lowering the age of conscription for men from 27 to 25.

The new draft rules were approved without a demobilization clause that would have allowed troops to return home after three years on the front lines. As things currently stand, everyone who is drafted will have to serve until the end of the conflict with Russia.

Wow, just like in the Fratricide Wars! They will be hunted down and dragged kicking and screaming back to The Jewkraine.

I wonder what countries such as the Jewnited Kingdom will do about this. Sending them back will be a death sentence, but they cannot/will not disobey their masters. Maybe the jewkranians can pretend to be disabled...oh wait!

I wonder why this publication, Statista, has written Six million for its headline, when really they should have wrote 13.7 million if using their own figures:

Quote:
Six million Ukrainian refugees

Number of Ukrainian refugees 2024, by country
In total, around six million Ukrainian refugees were registered across Europe and 6.5 million worldwide as of February 2024. Most of them fled the country by crossing the border with Poland.
Only 1.2 million ran the right way:

Quote:
Over 1.2 million refugees from Ukraine due to the Russian invasion were recorded in Russia as of June 30, 2023.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/...0with%20Poland.

Well that gives Zelensky a huge new army for to fight "until the last jewkranian", probably Six Million, unless Zelensky's NATO eventually decides to use escaped cripples, teenagers and women.

Russia tells Israel to condemn Ukraine

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the remark after West Jerusalem’s envoy urged Moscow to denounce Iranian strikes

Russia does not feel obliged to condemn Iran’s missile and drone strikes on Israel on Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said. The diplomat explained that West Jerusalem has never denounced Ukraine’s attacks on Russian civilians.

According to Israeli estimates, Tehran’s latest show of force involved hundreds of rockets and missiles, as well as kamikaze UAVs. Iran announced that the strike was in response to the “Zionist regime’s numerous crimes, including the attack on the consular section of Iran’s Embassy in Damascus.”
(...)
In a post on her Telegram channel on Sunday, Zakharova addressed the Israeli Ambassador to Russia, Simona Halperin, who had earlier told RIA Novosti that her country expects “our Russian colleagues to condemn the unprecedented Iranian attack on Israeli territory.”

The Israeli envoy also expressed hope that Moscow would counter “Iran’s attempts to destabilize the region.”

Zakharova responded: “Simona, remind me of when Israel condemned even a single strike by the Kiev regime on Russian regions? You don’t know? Nor do I.”

The foreign ministry representative also cited “regular statements in support of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky’s actions on the part of Israeli officials.”

Ukrainian FM publicly blackmails West over oil prices

Kiev’s top diplomat has suggested the US and other donors need to give more military aid to stop attacks on Russian refineries

Kiev would be more receptive to appeals from the US and other Western allies to quit attacking Russian oil infrastructure if those benefactors would boost their military aid, Ukraine’s top diplomat has revealed.

Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba offered his suggestion for how the West can earn Ukraine’s cooperation in a local broadcast interview on Sunday. His comments came after US defense chief Lloyd Austin expressed concern earlier this month that Ukrainian drone strikes against Russian refineries and oil storage facilities could trigger a jump in international energy prices.

“You need to think in your own interests,” Kuleba told Rada TV. “If your partners are saying: ‘We are giving you seven Patriot batteries, but we have a request for you, please don’t do this and that’ – then there is something to talk about.”

On the other hand, if “no batteries, no aid package” are being offered in connection with the entreaty – then there is nothing to talk about. “Everyone survives as best they can,” he added.

Zelensky to sign new mobilization bill this month – senior MP

The Ukrainian parliament voted in favor of the legislation on Thursday

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is likely to sign a bill to tighten the mobilization rules by the end of the month, the deputy speaker of parliament, Aleksandr Kornyenko, has said.

Speaking on national TV on Sunday, Kornyenko said Zelensky could sign the new mobilization law within just a couple of weeks.

He noted that so far, no one has introduced legislation in the parliament to block the measure, calling it “a good sign,” adding: “I think that starting Monday the speaker will be able to sign it and submit his presidential signature. The president will have two weeks, and I think he won’t drag it out for long.”

According to the deputy speaker, in the best-case scenario, some clauses will come into force immediately, others in a month’s time.
