Tesla now accepts Dogecoin for some merchandise, Elon Musk says

The price of Dogecoin surged Friday after Tesla began accepting the crypto meme token in sales of merchandise and other products.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a noted fan of Dogecoin, revealed the decision on his Twitter account.

“Tesla merch buyable with Dogecoin,” Musk wrote.

Tesla investors urge judge to order Musk repay $13 bln for SolarCity deal

WILMINGTON, Del, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) shareholders urged a judge on Tuesday to find Elon Musk coerced the company's board into a 2016 deal for SolarCity and asked that the chief executive be ordered to pay the electric vehicle company one of the largest judgments ever of $13 billion.

"This case has always been about whether the acquisition of SolarCity was a rescue from financial distress, a bailout, orchestrated by Elon Musk," Randy Baron, an attorney for shareholders, told the Zoom hearing.

The closing arguments recounted key findings from a 10-day trial in July when Musk spent two days on the stand defending the deal.

The lawsuit by union pension funds and asset managers alleges that Musk strong-armed the Tesla board into approving the deal for the cash-strapped SolarCity, in which Musk was the top shareholder.

For the first time ever, California prosecutors have filed felony charges against a driver who caused a crash that killed two people in 2019 while using Tesla’s “Autopilot” feature.

Gizmodo reports that for the first time California prosecutors have pressed felony charges against a person using Tesla’s Autopilot driver assistance feature resulting in a car crash. The driver has been charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter after allegedly having Tesla’s Autopilot system engaged when his vehicle drove through a red light resulting in a crash killing two people in 2019.

Tesla countersues JPMorgan over contract affected by Musk tweet

Tesla on Monday fought back against JPMorgan Chase over a disputed bond contract, countersuing the bank for seeking a “windfall” following Chief Executive Elon Musk’s notorious 2018 tweet that he might take his electric-car company private.

In a court filing, Tesla accused JPMorgan of “bad faith and avarice” for claiming it was owed $162.2 million after unilaterally changing the terms of warrants it received when Tesla sold convertible bonds in 2014.

By changing the terms, “JPMorgan dealt itself a pure windfall,” Tesla said in its countersuit filed in Manhattan federal court.

General Motors intends to boost spending on EV production to topple Elon Musk’s company



American automotive giant General Motors said on Tuesday it will pour $6.6 billion into boosting its electric pickup truck production and building a new electronic vehicle (EV) battery cell plant in its home state of Michigan.

The carmaker wants to overtake Tesla as the world’s biggest producer of electric vehicles.

“We will have the products, the battery cell capacity and the vehicle-assembly capacity to be the EV leader by mid-decade,” GM CEO Mary Barra said in a statement, as cited by CNBC.

The investment will include $2.6 billion for the construction of a new battery plant in partnership with LG Energy Solution and $4 billion for converting GM’s existing Orion Assembly plant in Detroit to produce electric trucks, like the recently announced and highly anticipated Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, scheduled for launch in 2024.

In the video which was posted on Biden’s official Twitter account on Wednesday evening, the president praised GM’s investment in electric vehicle manufacturing as a blow to climate change.

Responding to the message, Musk argued that electric vehicle manufacturing in the US “Starts with a T / Ends with an A / ESL in the middle.” He then took a dig at the president, completing his tweet with a “sock” emoji.

Tesla shares dip in after-hours trading despite record revenue

Tesla posted record quarterly revenue Wednesday that beat Wall Street estimates, but said it expected supply chain issues to continue through this year.

The stock fell 2.7% in after-hours trading.

Revenue rose to $17.72 billion in the fourth quarter, from $10.74 billion a year earlier. Analysts had expected the electric-vehicle maker to report revenue of $16.57 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

The world’s most valuable automaker last quarter handed over a record number of vehicles to customers despite supply chain headwinds.

Billionaire Elon Musk may have just hinted at his next future endeavor via Twitter after responding to a suggestion by author Dinesh D’Souza on the platform.

D’Souza made a nod to how the Tesla CEO is often criticized for manipulating both the stock and crypto markets through his commentary on Twitter, whether its posting memes or giving quick quipped opinions on certain coins and companies.

Tesla recalls cars that may roll past stop signs

Tesla is recalling nearly 54,000 vehicles because a software feature lets them roll through stop signs.

The company will issue an over-the-air software update that disables the Full Self-Driving Beta (FSDB) "rolling stop" function.

Elon Musk, the firm's chief executive tweeted that there were no safety issues and the cars just slowed down.

All-way stop signs, common on North American roads, require drivers to halt completely, before proceeding.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): "Failing to stop at a stop sign can increase the risk of a crash."

Elon Musk shreds media outlets for ‘relentless hatestream’ of bad news

Tech billionaire Elon Musk is tired of reading bad news.

The Tesla founder took aim at news media outlets in a series of tweets Tuesday. Musk questioned why it was “so hard to find out what’s going on in the world without being bombarded with news that makes one sad & angry.”

“Why is the ‘traditional’ media such a relentless hatestream? Real question,” Musk said.

“Most news outlets attempt to answer the question: ‘What are the worst things happening on Earth today?’” he added. “It’s a big planet! Obviously, some bad things are happening somewhere at any given time, but focusing relentlessly on those does not give an accurate picture of reality.”

Musk has had a contentious relationship with media outlets in recent years, at times personally criticizing outlets over their coverage of Tesla. The billionaire’s latest criticism followed a run of bad publicity for the electric car firm.

SpaceX boss Elon Musk said that the first-ever orbital flight of his Starship rocket could take off as early as this March — a key step in eventually realizing his goal of building human colonies on Mars.

“This is the first point in the 4.5-billion-year history of Earth that it has been possible,” Musk said on Thursday.

“We need to seize the opportunity and do it as quickly as possible. I want to be frank: Civilization is feeling a little fragile these days.”

Musk told employees at his Texas-based company he was confident that the world’s most powerful rocket would reach orbit sometime this year.

He made the comments while standing near the 390-foot high rocket at the company’s spaceport in Boca Chica near the Gulf Coast.

Elon Musk blames ‘fun police’ for Tesla recall over ‘fart horn’ feature

Elon Musk jabbed at federal auto safety officials after they forced Tesla to recall a feature that allows drivers to play fart sounds and other bizarre noises over their car’s external speakers.

Tesla recalled nearly 600,000 vehicles last week to tweak the “Boombox” feature, a late 2020 update that let drivers swap out their normal car horn for other sounds, including honks that sound like farts and goats.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined the feature could make it harder to hear a required “Pedestrian Warning System” sound.

Musk seemed unhappy with the agency’s decision during a conversation with one of his Twitter followers, who asked the billionaire to explain his “rationale” for recalling the Boombox feature.

“The fun police made us do it (sigh),” Musk tweeted.

I think having different horn sounds for different meanings could actually make driving safer. For example, a normal horn sound could warn of an impending accident, a fart horn sound could be used to nudge someone who hasn't noticed that the light has turned green, and a goat sound could be used to notify a passing woman that you are feeling horny--well, all right, maybe not the last one.

SpaceX: Space storm destroys 40 of Elon Musk's Starlink satellites

SpaceX has confirmed that a geomagnetic storm destroyed most of the Starlink satellites it launched last Friday.

Elon Musk's company said that 40 of its 49 satellites were going to fall back to Earth - though they are designed to burn up on re-entry - after a space storm "significantly impacted" them.

They were part of a planned satellite constellation that is intended to eventually provide constant internet coverage for most of the world.
