Taylor Swift calls out Soros family for ‘shameless greed’ in Instagram beef with record company

(JTA) — Taylor Swift is drawing criticism — and apparent applause among her neo-Nazi fan base — for calling out “the Soros family” in an Instagram post. It’s the latest salvo in the pop superstar’s ongoing battle with her former record label.

The family long has been at the center of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish domination of global banking. George Soros, a Hungarian billionaire and liberal philanthropist, typically is the main target. But his son Alex, the deputy chair of his father’s Open Society Foundations, an international group that promotes liberal causes, has begun to feature in them as well.

According to Swift, Alex Soros also is playing a role in the hugely popular singer’s nasty and public fight with her former label, Big Machine Records.

Calling out the Soros family; Braun, the Jewish industry giant associated with the likes of Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande; and the private equity firms involved in the sale, Swift wrote that the decision to release the new album is “just another case of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus. So tasteless, but very transparent.”

To many people who viewed Swift’s post, Swift was invoking language that many have used to signal anti-Semitic sentiments.

Swift’s notable fan base among white supremacists seemed to get the message. Alma rounded up some of the responses that make clear that some are associating her post with widespread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Soros. Bend the Arc, a Jewish progressive political advocacy group with which Alex Soros is closely involved, tweeted a message to Swift on Friday afternoon.

“You have every right to be upset about others profiting off your music. But PLEASE don’t share antisemitic conspiracy theories about the Soros family,” the group wrote. “‘Shameless greed’ is a dog-whistle used against Jews. Your Jewish fans deserve better.”

Soros-Funded ACLU Sues to Free 500 Inmates from Prison in California

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), partially funded by billionaire George Soros, is now suing to have 500 inmates freed from jail in Orange County, California, in the midst of the Chinese coronavirus crisis.

The ACLU filed a class-action lawsuit against Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes, demanding officials free about 500 inmates from the county’s jails. The lawsuit claims the inmates are vulnerable to contracting the coronavirus.

Less than 120 inmates in Orange County’s jails have tested positive for the coronavirus out of 227 inmates who have been tested in total, as of April 29.

Last week, Breitbart News reported on the release of seven sex offenders from Orange County jails by Court Commissioner Joseph Dane despite law enforcement’s warnings that all are “high risk” and likely to reoffend.

After the release, one of the sex offenders was rearrested for exposing himself in public. The sex offender has been convicted of child molestation, indecent exposure, assault, battery, criminal threats, and inflicting injury on an elder adult.

As I watched and otherwise enjoyed the classical 1931 “Dracula” film starring Bela Lugosi, one scene repeated several times, disturbed me. I’m not sure of the meaning of what I saw. In the beginning of the film, when Dracula is first introduced to viewers, we see him wearing an oversized necklace with the star of David, the Jewish star, hanging at the end of the necklace. He does not wear this necklace in latter scenes. The unusually large size of the star of David seems to be the film’s desire to call attention to it. It seems to equate Jews to Dracula and imply that both need to drink blood. It seems to recall the many blood libels brought against Jews claiming that Jews need to drink blood for ritual purposes.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, “aggressive language towards Soros has exploded on social media” this week. Negative tweets about the billionaire Jewish philanthropist rose from 20,000 per day on May 26 to 500,000 per day on May 30.

The posts, according to the ADL, mostly allege (without evidence) that Soros is funding riots across the country, and that he is backing Antifa, a loose network of anti-fascist activists whom President Donald Trump has blamed for the violence, also without citing evidence.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — President Donald Trump boosted a Georgia Republican candidate who refuses to disavow a white supremacist she posed with in a photograph and has seemingly promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

“A big winner,” Trump said in a tweet Friday attached to a story on a pro-Trump website noting that Marjorie Taylor Greene in the heavily Republican 14th District had performed well in the primary despite having an ad banned by Facebook. “Congratulations!”

Greene has posed in photos with Chester Doles, a Georgia man who once was a leader of the Ku Klux Klan and served a prison sentence for beating nearly to death a black man he saw in the company of a white woman. She has dismissed media queries about the photos as “silly” and “fake news.”

Greene has peddled conspiracy theories about QAnon, a complex fantasy about a group of influential pedophiles trying to bring down Trump that at times has veered into anti-Semitism. Jewish Insider uncovered a 2018 posting on a QAnon website signed by a Marjorie Greene that brought in anti-Semitic tropes accusing Jewish billionaire George Soros and the Rothschild family of being involved in the conspiracy.

When she started, following the election of President Donald Trump, conspiracy theories about Soros were beginning to make the leap to mainstream in the United States.

More recently, far-right conspiracy theorists have also blamed the 89-year-old Jewish billionaire philanthropist for the Black Lives Matter protests — he is paying protesters and “funding antifa,” they say — and the coronavirus pandemic. Anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Soros have reached new heights, with half a million negative messages flooding Twitter every day last month, according to an Anti-Defamation League analysis. World leaders, including Trump, have amplified them.

That means Tamkin’s book, “The Influence of Soros: Politics, Power, and the Struggle for an Open Society,” is arriving at a fortuitous time. Of course, the New Statesman editor said, there would never be a bad time for a book explaining some of the most durable anti-Semitic tropes of our time.

Soros-backed St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner allegedly busted flying around the globe on a progressive organization's dime — without reporting it


She did not disclose the paid-for trips


George Soros-backed St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner has come under fire recently for allegedly traveling across the country and world on a criminal justice reform organization's dime without reporting it, in apparent violation of city and state law.

According to an investigation into the matter by local news station KMOV-TV, the progressive attorney embarked on numerous trips in 2018 and 2019 that were "paid for in full, or in part, by an organization called Fair and Just Prosecution, a group that professes to support progressive prosecutors," yet she did not disclose the trips on travel reports.

Billionaire philanthropist George Soros has also contributed to Fair and Just Prosecution, the report said.

Gardner, who has risen to the national spotlight in recent weeks after filing charges against Mark and Patricia McCloskey for brandishing guns while defending their home from Black Lives Matter protesters, was also allegedly unresponsive on trips, causing work to be back-logged.

(JTA) — Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia congressional candidate who has advanced conspiracy theories that have veered into anti-Semitism, easily won a runoff primary election Tuesday, making it likely that she will join Congress next year.

Greene has promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory, a complex narrative about a group of powerful people working to bring down President Trump who also run an international child sex trafficking ring. Critics say its focus on Jewish figures, especially the billionaire political donor George Soros, is anti-Semitic.

Jewish Insider uncovered a 2018 posting on a QAnon website signed by a Marjorie Greene that accused Soros and the Rothschild family of being involved in the conspiracy.

Greene’s primary win in a heavily Republican district means she is almost certain to join Congress this fall. Her closest opponent was also a right-wing Republican, but Greene received the backing of President Donald Trump.

Trump congratulated Taylor Greene on her win Wednesday morning.

(JTA) — Facebook has restricted thousands of groups and pages with ties to the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory.

The social media site said Wednesday that it had removed 790 Facebook groups and was restricting thousands of groups, accounts and pages on Facebook and its company Instagram, The New York Times reported.

QAnon followers believe in a complex narrative about a group of powerful people working to bring down President Donald Trump who also run an international child sex trafficking ring. Critics say its focus on Jewish figures, especially the billionaire political donor George Soros and the wealthy Rotschild family, is anti-Semitic.

The movement has grown in recent months and last week Marjorie Taylor Greene, a congressional candidate who has promoted QAnon, won a Republican primary in Georgia.
