Suburb’s eye-watering new bin punishment as residents face $5000 fine

Residents of one Australian suburb face a truly gigantic fine if they make this one “rubbish” mistake with their waste bins.

September 29, 2022

Residents in a Perth suburb face a substantial fine if they let their rubbish bins get too smelly after a new wheely bin was introduced.

Those living in Victoria Park could be hit with a fine of up to $5000 if their green-topped garden organics bin attracts a bad odour according to a new local law.

The new law is intended to make sure that people sort their rubbish correctly in the new bin, Mayor Karen Vernon told 6PR.

“We will need some powers, as a local council, to be able to make that behaviour change appropriately,” she said.

Oct 10, 2022

Flyers trying to recruit peopleto a white supremacist group have shown up in letterboxes at Bondi Beach. WARNING: Disturbing language.

Flyers promoting a neo-Nazi group that believes “white Australians” face racial extinction have emerged in Bondi.

The Anti-Defamation Commission, a Melbourne-based non-profit organisation, shared pictures of the flyers with news.com.au. It said they were put in letterboxes along Rickard Ave, Bondi Beach last week.

“We have great things planned to secure our future in this land. In the meantime we cannot achieve any of our goals without you,” the flyer from the European Australia Movement read.

“Get yourself involved and join your local network. Be prepared to train, get outdoors and sacrifice some of your personal time for a higher purpose. Blood and honour.”

A QR code attached, with the caption “if white scan”, takes people to the website of Australia’s largest white supremacist group, the National Socialist Network.

“We are working to secure the existence of our people and a future for white children,” the website reads.

Calls for anti-racism training as African-Australian students report discrimination in school

October 19, 2022

African-Australian community leaders have called for anti-racism training in Victorian schools after students described experiencing race- and religion-based discrimination.

Students of African heritage have told researchers they felt more heavily policed than non-African students, were suspected of cheating if they did well and were encouraged to leave school rather than complete the VCE even if their marks were good.

Jewish community backs calls for swastika ban in WA as Perth seller auctions Nazi items

9 november 2022

An auction of Nazi memorabilia, including a card signed by Adolf Hitler and a banner, has led to renewed calls for Western Australia to ban the public display of the swastika.

Perth-based JB Military Antiques has drawn outrage from Jewish leaders for its sale of items including daggers and flags bearing the swastika, along with items from the SS uniform.

Steve Lieblich, the vice-president of the Jewish Community Council of WA, said auctions of Nazi material were "feeding" an interest he found troubling.

"I think that people who are interested are either weird or closet Nazis," he said.

Australian War Memorial is slammed for switching to ‘gender neutral’ pronouns

Jan 5, 2023

The Australian War Memorial has been criticized for using “gender neutral” pronouns to honor fallen soldiers.

Every day at 4:45pm, the Canberra-based memorial holds a last posting ceremony to remember a fallen Australian soldier, before posting a tribute to the soldier on its Twitter account.

However, from January 1, he began referring to welds as ‘his’ instead of ‘his’ or ‘her’.

A memorial source insisted that ‘his’ was being used to stop mixing the genders of fallen soldiers.

However, opposition veterans affairs spokesman Barnaby Joyce criticized the memorial, describing the move as a “regrettable awakening”.

NSW police drop investigation into Nazi memorabilia as fallout continues for Dominic Perrottet

13/01/2023

NSW Police have confirmed they are no longer investigating a store in the state that was displaying and selling Nazi memorabilia, a day after the premier revealed he wore a Nazi uniform on his 21st birthday.

Jewish community members are outraged that stores in NSW continue to sell Nazi memorabilia and publicly display Nazi uniforms, as pressure continues to mount on premier Dominic Perrottet.

Mr Perrottet apologised on Thursday for wearing a Nazi uniform on his 21st birthday, nearly two decades ago.

NSW passed laws in August last year to criminalise the intentional and public display of Nazi symbols, the second state in the country to do so after Victoria.

Major Australian Bank Seeks To END Cash Withdrawals From Branches

30/03/2023

Australia is now a step closer to a central bank digital currency.

Australia's second-largest bank ANZ has confirmed it will end cash withdrawals from some of its branches sparking controversies with disabled or elderly customers. People who use ANZ will now be redirected to ATMs to withdraw cash instead of using the bank branches although more and more ATMs are being removed across the country in an attempt to go digital.

According to MailOnline, "the number of bank branches in Australia has fallen by about 30 per cent in the last five years, a trend that has been mirrored across the world.

And ATMs have decreased even more, with figures showing that they have fallen from a high of 14,000 in 2017 to around 6,000 as of last year. On Wednesday, it was revealed that cash transactions are dying in Australia with just 13 percent of purchases now using banknotes or coins. Tap-and-go cards, mobile payments and direct online transfers make up the rest of all transactions, with the share of cash purchases halving in just three years."

During his first appearance in Wollongong Local Court on Friday, Mr Gibbs pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm.

Police facts tendered to the court revealed officers discovered around 10,000 rounds of air rifle/gel blaster ammunition, an AR15-style gel blaster and two gel pistols during a search of a home where the 33-year-old had been staying.

Female teacher forced to apologise for saying ‘Good afternoon, girls’

Apr 16, 2023

Female teacher at £20,000 a year girls’ school must apologize to pupils for saying ‘Good afternoon, girls’

A teacher claims she was left ‘humiliated’ after being told to apologize to 11-year-olds at a private girls’ school – for calling them girls.

The bosses of the £20,000-a-year school told the woman to give the mea culpa after her class complained that she had said ‘good afternoon, girls’ at the start of a lesson, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

After hearing from the students that “not everyone here identifies as female,” she came to class the next day to find that they had emphatically written their name and pronouns on the board, including someone using them/she.

They also held a lunchtime protest after she refused to acknowledge their demands.

May 4, 2023

Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi is suing One Nation leader Pauline Hanson over an allegedly racist tweet made last year.

Faruqi is taking federal court action against Hanson, asking her to pay $150k to charity, after claiming a breach of the Racial Discrimination Act.

In response to Faruqi’s tweet about the Queen’s death last year, Hanson made a series of remarks about the senator’s ethnic background.

Australians could be jailed for three years for hateful social media posts

Wed, 31 May 2023

Australians in the state of Queensland could be jailed for up to three years for sharing social media posts that violate sweeping hate crime laws.

The Criminal Code (Serious Vilification and Hate Crimes) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 proposes tougher penalties for those who commit crimes motivated by prejudice on the grounds of race, religion, sexuality or gender identity.

The proposed laws would increase the maximum prison time for making bigoted statements from six months to three years.

Inflammatory social media posts fall under the purview of the bill, which prohibits the vilification of specified groups through “any form of communication to the public,” including via electronic means.

Sharing a Nazi symbol on social media, or carrying it around publicly, will also result in jail time.
