Spain ships 10 Leopard tanks to Ukraine

The tanks will first make their way to Poland by sea.

BY LEONIE KIJEWSKI
APRIL 22, 2023 10:40 AM CET

Six Leopard tanks have left Spain and are on their way to Ukraine to ramp up its military capacity, Reuters reports.

The tanks have been loaded onto cargo vessel on Friday and will be shipped by sea to Poland, according to the news agency.

At the end of February, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that he would send a total of 10 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. He faced opposition from far-left Podemos, the junior partner in his ruling coalition, which has warned this will only escalate the war and has instead pressed for peace talks.

Western allies have been ramping up the supply of military hardware to Ukraine as it prepares to face a potential renewed Russian offensive this spring. Germany hesitated for months on whether to send its tanks to Ukraine, eventually giving in to international pressure.

"Giving in to international pressure" in this case means being strong-armed by international jewry.

Three arrested as Spain exhumes fascist movement's founder

By Silvio Castellanos and Juan Antonio Dominguez

MADRID, April 24 (Reuters) - Three people were arrested on Monday after police clashed with sympathisers of Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, founder of Spain's fascist Falange movement that supported the Francoist regime, whose body was exhumed from a mausoleum near Madrid.

Police struggled to hold back a crowd of about 150 Falange supporters gathered outside the San Isidro cemetery in southern Madrid, where he was taken to be reburied. They gave the fascist salute and sang the Falangist hymn "Facing the sun". The three arrests were for public disorder, according to a police source.

Biden meets with Spain's Sanchez, discusses Ukraine war

By Jeff Mason and Arshad Mohammed

WASHINGTON, May 12 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez underscored their support for Ukraine in the war with Russia on Friday during a White House meeting that also touched on migration and defense cooperation.

During a meeting in the Oval Office, Biden said that "together we're supporting Ukraine," and Sanchez squarely blamed the war on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We support Ukraine. Of course we work for a lasting and just peace that respects fully the international law and also the principles of the U.N. charter," Sanchez said. "Make no mistake, in this war there is an aggressor and a victim, and the aggressor is President Putin."

Ukrainian clubs attack FC Barcelona over greetings to Russian fans

Any contact is “completely unacceptable,” Shakhtar Donetsk chief Sergey Palkin has declared

FC Shakhtar Donetsk has demanded that FC Barcelona apologize after two of its players recorded a video message thanking Russian fans for their support. Despite its Donbass roots, FC Shakhtar relocated to Lviv in western Ukraine in 2014 and has since embraced the nationalism of its new home city.

Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and Sergi Roberto recently recorded a short video message thanking fans in Russia for their support this season. The video, which was recorded in Spanish, was posted to Telegram with Russian subtitles by the Russian network that broadcasts La Liga games.

“A big hello to all Barcelona fans in Russia! See you soon!” Balde said.

Shakhtar Donetsk Director Sergey Palkin was furious. “We hope FC Barcelona realizes that their support for a country like Russia is completely unacceptable at this time,” he said in a statement on Monday. “We expect the club to admit its mistake and avoid similar situations in the future.”

After Spanish left’s crushing defeat in local elections, Pedro Sánchez calls snap elections for July 23

Spain, which has had Europe’s most radical leftist coalition government in recent years, is now the next European country shifting to the right. Spaniards were voting on Sunday to elect their regional and municipal assemblies, and the results that came out of the ballot boxes do not bode well for Pedro Sánchez’s governing coalition of socialists, far-left populists, and communists.

The landslide victory of the center-right People’s Party (PP) and Vox’s conservatives in Sunday’s local and regional elections came after a campaign marred by attempts by members of the prime minister’s socialist party (PSOE) to rig the election in some municipalities, the usual hate speech directed at conservatives from government circles that has resulted in acts of physical violence by far-left extremists, and the socialists aligning with former terrorists linked to the Basque Marxist organization (ETA) in the electoral lists of a regional far-left party, Bildu, which has been indispensable to maintaining Sٞánchez’s minority government in power.

Whereas those elections irregularities have gone unnoticed in Brussels — where Europe’s left-liberal establishment seems to be preoccupied with democracy and the rule of law in member states exclusively when these are ruled by right-wing conservatives — they have been heavily castigated by Spanish voters. These voters probably also had in mind the threat to democracy and the rule of law posed by the ruling coalition’s recent radical laws, like the “Yes means yes” law, which has led to the liberation of hundreds of sexual offenders, and the “trans” law voted in this year which is Europe’s most radical gender-ideology law and marks a real totalitarian drift.

Although the definitive results were not yet fully known on Monday, it was already clear that out of 17 autonomous regions in total and of the 12 where elections were held on Sunday, the center-right PP has now taken over at least six of the 10 that were governed by the socialists. The only region that was governed by the PSOE’s coalition partner, Podemos, together with far-left allies, the Valencia region, has fallen into the hands of the center-right too. However, the PP will need Vox to govern in several regions and not only, as until now, in Castile and León. This is not the case in Madrid, however, where the electoral list conducted by the region’s incumbent PP president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, obtained an absolute majority on Sunday.

Spain asks EU for $90 billion in loans ahead of July election

Reuters
June 6, 2023 3:23 PM GMT+2

MADRID, June 6 (Reuters) - Spain has asked the European Commission for 84 billion euros ($90 billion) in loans from the bloc's COVID-19 recovery package, a quarter of which will be managed by the European Investment Bank, Economy Minister Nadia Calvino said on Tuesday.

The EIB will administer about 20 billion euros worth of loans destined for the governments of Spain's autonomous regions, Calvino told a news conference, meaning the funds will not be directly controlled by the Spanish government.

Spain pledges four tanks to Ukraine

Kiev’s forces reportedly lost nearly twice that amount in several hours earlier this month

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez pledged on Saturday to supply Ukraine with four additional Leopard battle tanks. Large numbers of the German-made tanks have already been destroyed by Russian forces during Ukraine’s ongoing counteroffensive.

Speaking in Kiev, Sanchez promised that "Spain will soon deliver new military hardware to help [Ukraine] in the war, including four Leopard tanks and armored personnel carriers,” according to Ukrainian media outlets. Sanchez said that his government would also supply a mobile field hospital and continue training Ukrainian surgeons to treat battlefield casualties.

Spain promised ten Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine back in February, and shipped the first six in April. Earlier this month, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that the remaining four Leopards would be sent as soon as they had been taken out of storage and refurbished.

July 9, 2023 11:47 AM GMT+2

MADRID, July 9 (Reuters) - Two weeks ahead of Spain's election, the conservative People's Party (PP) opened up its lead over the ruling Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) but would still need the help of the far-right Vox party to govern, according to an opinion poll published by a newspaper on Sunday.

A poll carried out by Ipsos for La Vanguardia newspaper between July 3 and July 6 interviewed 2,000 people and showed the opposition PP with 35% of the votes and the PSOE on 28%.

Instead of fighting for our blood and soul, our men are wearing dresses and pretending to get fucked in the ass onstage in a desperate attempt to "be their authentic selves".

We of our race are, at the most fundamental level, blood and soul warriors. If you are Aryan, your racial self is your authentic self.

Spain's conservatives insist on forming government against odds

MADRID, July 25 (Reuters) - The leader of Spain's conservatives stuck to his plan on Tuesday of getting enough support in parliament for a right-wing government following Sunday's inconclusive election, even as such prospects looked dim after a Basque party refused to negotiate.

The centre-right Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) said on social media platform X - formerly Twitter - that its president had told People's Party (PP) leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo the PNV would not hold any talks on backing his premiership bid.

The PP earned 136 seats in the 350-seat lower house, well short of the 176 lawmakers needed for an outright majority. It would only be able to form a government with the support of other parties, including far-right Vox, with which it has formed alliances in several regional administrations.

The anti-immigration, anti-feminist Vox party lost seats in Sunday's vote, staving off the prospect of a nationalist-backed government and pointing to limitations in the European far-right's bid for the mainstream.

Barcelona suspends relations with Israel

Politicians vow to sever ties until there is permanent cease-fire, respect for ‘basic rights’ of Palestinians

Alyssa Mcmurtry | 24.11.2023 - Update : 24.11.2023

OVIEDO, Spain

The Barcelona city council on Friday approved a declaration suspending relations with Israel until there is a permanent cease-fire in Gaza and the country “respects the basic rights of the Palestinian people."

This is not the first time Barcelona has cut ties with Israel.

In February 2023, then-Mayor Ada Colau suspended the city’s relationship with Israel and the twin city agreement with Tel Aviv.

However, during elections this summer, Colau lost her position to the socialist candidate Jaume Collboni. In September, he restored diplomatic ties with Israel and the twin city agreement with Tel Aviv.

Friday’s declaration was put forward by Colau’s far-left Barcelona en Comun party and backed by Collboni’s Socialist Party, as well as the left-wing separatist party ERC.

The declaration condemns all attacks on the civilian population, both by Hamas and Israel, as well as “any collective punishment, forced displacement, systematic destruction of homes and civil infrastructure as well as the blockade of energy, water, food, and medical supplies to the population of the Gaza Strip.”

Spain's PM Sanchez weakened by defeat in Galicia regional election

Reuters
February 19, 2024 12:38 PM GMT+1

MADRID, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez emerged weakened from Sunday's parliamentary elections in the northwestern region of Galicia after his Socialist party (PSOE) won just nine seats in the 75-seat assembly.

The conservative People's Party (PP) maintained its outright majority after winning 40 seats, while PSOE's far-left coalition ally Sumar failed to win a single seat, according to official results. The Nationalist Galician Bloc (BNG) gained six seats to 25.

In the first significant election since he secured another term as prime minister, Sanchez was hoping a better-than-expected economic performance would offset opposition to the political concessions made to Catalan separatists in exchange for their support.

"The results made it clear: the Socialists had the worst result on record. A bad night for the Socialist Party," political consultancy Nitid wrote in a report.

‘On the inside, I am a lesbian woman’ — Spanish soldiers exploit Trans Law to unlock better pay, pension provisions, and private rooms

The purely administrative process enabled through Spain’s liberal Trans Law has unlocked a number of perks previously reserved for biological women — Roberto explains how it has improved his own life

March 07, 2024
editor: REMIX NEWS author: THOMAS BROOKE

Roberto Perdigones, 35, explains how taking advantage of Spain's new Trans Law has unlocked a number of perks in his role as a soldier.

A corporal in the Spanish Army has revealed how an administrative gender change under Spain’s new Trans Law has seen their pension increase, unlocked the child benefit since they are now recognized as a “mother,” and facilitated a move to a private room in the barracks with their own private bathroom.

“On the outside, I feel like a heterosexual man. But on the inside, I am a lesbian woman, which prevails. That’s why I made the legal change to being a woman,” said 35-year-old Roberto Perdigones in an interview with El Español online newspaper.

The soldier explains that they are a man, equipped with male genitalia and a beard. They have also fathered a son and remain attracted to women.

Roberto is one of dozens of officials stationed in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta to have used the far-left trans legislation to their advantage with reports this week suggesting that as many as 37 soldiers, police officers, and public officials have changed their gender in a purely administrative capacity in order to access extra perks as women.

Some are calling it fraud, but Roberto disagreed, citing that they have done everything required under the new legislation to make the change. In Spain, an individual can now legally change to the female sex through their own self-declaration with the Civil Registry of the gender they identify as without the need for medical reports or hormone treatment.
