Will gender reassignment surgeries for minors be banned in Poland? Catholic think tank proposes new legislation to imprison doctors for up to 3 years

The Polish legal body Ordo Iuris is proposing legislation that would ban all sex change operations for minors

May 11, 2023
editor: REMIX NEWS author: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK

The Catholic think tank Ordo Iuris is working on new legislation that would ban sex change operations for minors in Poland. Additionally, any doctor that was involved in a sex change operation on a minor would be sent to prison for up to three years. Currently, minors are permitted to perform a sex change operation with parental consent.

Ordo Iuris indicated that the catalyst for the legislation is the story of Łukasz Sakowski, a gay man who said he was manipulated by a transsexual into taking long-term hormone treatment, which he said left him with deep psychological and physical damage.
(...)
However, Left party MP Krzysztof Śmiszek, who is the life partner of former presidential candidate and current MEP Robert Biedroń, is proposing legislation that would actually remove the need for parental consent in performing sex change operations.

Polish President Andrzej Duda inspected the Polish Armed Forces at the Central Air Force Training Range near the northern town of Ustka on Saturday, as Poland’s largest joint military exercise with NATO troops, known as Anaconda 23, took place.

The Polish leader stressed the importance of security in the face of “unprecedented times” and the proximity of war. He called for the public to remain calm and stated that the authorities are drawing the proper conclusions from security challenges.

“The time we are dealing with is unprecedented. War has never been so close to us. It creates many difficult situations, including provocations,” Duda said at the training ground.

He expressed his satisfaction with the modernization of the Polish army and the acquisition of equipment, and highlighted the ongoing work to implement an air defense system that had been “neglected for many decades.”

Poland: LGBT activists sentenced to community service for violent attack on pro-life campaigners

The convicts received between a year and 6 months of probationary community service

May 23, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: TVP.INFO via: TVP.INFO

Three LGBT activists have been found guilty by a Warsaw court of attacking a group of pro-life campaigners and trashing their campaign van.

The attack occurred in June 2020 when a group of LGBT activists stopped a Pro-Right to Life Foundation van, damaged it, and attacked the occupants.

The court in Warsaw found all three activists charged to be guilty, sentencing the most well-known of them, Michał Sz., a man who insists on being called by the woman’s name “Margot,” to one year’s probationary community service.

The other two activists received sentences of 11 months and 6 months of probationary community service. The community service will involve 30 hours of unpaid work per month.

In addition to the community service, “Margot” and one of his colleagues will have to take action to repair the damage they caused to the van, pay €1,500 to the foundation whose property was attacked, and also pay €1,000 and €600 in damages to two of the pro-life activists who were attacked.

Polish general: Poland must be prepared to ‘assist any uprising’ in Belarus against ‘Lukashenko regime’

Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak is predicting a major backlash against Lukashenko’s government

May 25, 2023

Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko visiting the troops of the Belarusian army.

An uprising may soon break out in Belarus against President Aleksander Lukashenko, and Poland should be ready to support those willing to carry out operations against the Belarusian dictator, said Polish General Waldemar Skrzypczak, wfho serves as a reserve general, has claimed.

“If the Ukrainian counteroffensive is successful, those armed Belarusians who are part of the Ukrainian army’s military potential will not lay down their weapons,” he told the “Gość Wydarzeń” program on Polsat News. “They will go to Belarus. I hope this will provoke an uprising in Belarus, which Lukashenko fears,” he added.

According to the Polish army’s former chief of staff, Poland must be prepared to assist any uprising against the Lukashenko regime. “We have reasons to help them, just as we help the Ukrainians,” he stated.

The general, who is not active but can be called up to serve due to his reservist status, predicted the Belarusian people will support the uprising and enthusiastically rise up against Lukashenko, as he no longer has the military potential to prevent such an uprising. “Russia will not help him much because it will have its own problems,” he added. According to the general, if the uprising happens, there will be an exodus of Belarusians towards Poland, and Poland should be prepared for that.

Polish TV hosts fined for defaming ‘gang of aggressive activists’ who accosted them as they left work

One of the hosts of the program, Rafał Ziemkiewicz, who is a renowned conservative author, expressed his intention to request a prison sentence instead of paying a fine

The hosts of a TVP Info program, Rafał Ziemkiewicz and Magdalena Ogórek, have been ordered by a Polish court to each pay a fine of €2,220 (10,000 złoty) for defaming opposition activist Elżbieta Podleśna during a broadcast of the “W tyle wizji” program in February 2019.

The verdict, issued by the second instance court, is now final.

During the show, the hosts were commenting on Elżbieta Podleśna’s case. Podleśna, who works as a psychologist and psychotherapist, was an opposition activist and co-organizer of protests, including one in front of TVP Info’s headquarters where one of the hosts of the show, Magdalena Ogórek, was allegedly attacked verbally and physically by the protesters.

Ziemkiewicz and Ogórek made remarks implying that Podleśna “brings her patients to various events as a psychologist and psychotherapist” and that they themselves had undergone “expertly performed brainwashing.”

Podleśna reported the suspected defamation to the court in 2019, but the case was initially dismissed. However, in September 2021, the District Court of Warsaw City reconsidered Podleśna’s complaint against the dismissal and ordered the case to be reopened.

Polish president signs 'Tusk Law' on undue Russian influence

Reuters
May 29, 2023 6:10 PM GMT+2

WARSAW, May 29 (Reuters) - Poland's president said on Monday he would sign a bill to allow a panel to investigate whether the opposition Civic Platform (PO) party allowed the country to be unduly influenced by Russia and as a result too dependent on its fuel when it was in power.

The liberal PO, in government from 2007 to 2015, rejects the claims and says the law is designed to destroy support for its leader and former prime minister Donald Tusk ahead of an election scheduled for October or November.

President Andrzej Duda said he would sign the bill because he believed it "should enter into force" but he also said he would ask the Constitutional Tribunal to examine criticism that the legislation is unconstitutional.

The bill would set up an investigative commission that could deliver an initial report in September. Opposition figures have nicknamed it Lex Tusk, using the Latin word for law.

"In a normal democratic country, somebody who is president of that country would never sign such a Stalin-esque law," PO lawmaker Marcin Kierwinski told private broadcaster TVN 24.

Poland to purchase US Hellfire missiles to arm Apache helicopters

It’s Poland’s latest purchase in a long list of military orders from the United States

May 31, 2023
editor: REMIX NEWS author: POLSKIE RADIO 24 via: PAP

Poland’s Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has announced that his country has signed a contract for the delivery of Hellfire missiles from the United States.

“They will arm the AW149 support helicopters and eventually the AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters,” he wrote in a social media post on Tuesday.

The AW149 helicopters are being produced in Poland, with the first batch of them to be delivered to the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade by the end of the year.

They will be armed with Hellfire missiles and are capable of transporting soldiers and supporting them from the air. They can also be used for search and evacuation missions.

Polish volunteers claim they participated in military actions in Russia’s Belgorod region

The first all-Polish unit within the Ukrainian Armed Forces claims to have been actively involved in raids on Russian territory

The Polish Volunteer Corps, currently serving within the Ukrainian Armed Forces, claimed to have participated in military operations in the Belgorod region of Russia alongside Russian volunteers.

The corps shared the reports of their entry into Russian territory on social media.

On May 22, in response to reports of volunteer members of the “Freedom of Russia” Legion entering Russian territory, a statement was released on Telegram confirming the participation of Poles in the military raids.

“The Polish Volunteer Corps took part in fulfilling the combat mission alongside the Russian Volunteer Corps. We share not only the bonds of brotherhood in arms but also personal friendships and camaraderie,” the group posted.

According to the statement, Polish mercenaries were directly involved in combat. They suffered no casualties and successfully completed all assigned tasks.

The post, however, has since been deleted, sparking some confusion and raising questions over its authenticity.

Ukraine-bound ammo train robbed in Poland

Authorities claim that all four crates and contents have been recovered and accounted for, according to local media

Western-provided ammunition destined for Ukraine fell prey to train thieves in Poland on Sunday. Local media reported that the now detained criminals had not targeted the military cargo intentionally, but rather chosen the crates by chance.

Police spokesperson Mariusz Ciarka told reporters that the train operated by US troops was traveling from Germany. According to the authorities, the thieves broke into the carriage under the cover of night in the town of Wegliniec. Lower Silesian Police representative, Przemyslaw Ratajczyk explained that “when they realized what they had stolen, they got scared and, fearing serious consequences, decided to abandon the loot.”

Police began searching for the missing crates and found all four in a pond four kilometers away from the original crime scene. In a Twitter post on Wednesday, officials revealed that the seals on three crates seemed intact, while the other one had been opened, but no ammunition was taken.

Poland refutes Nord Stream sabotage claim

Attempts to link Warsaw to the destruction of the gas pipelines are “baseless,” a high-ranking security official says

Poland had nothing to do with last September’s explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines, high-ranking security official Stanislaw Zaryn has stated. Reports alleging Warsaw had a role in the sabotage are aimed at distracting the public’s attention from what actually happened, he added.

On Saturday, the Wall Street Journal claimed that German investigators were seeking to establish if Poland was somehow involved in the attack on the undersea pipelines, built to deliver Russian natural gas to Europe via Germany.

According to the paper, officials in Berlin suggested that Ukrainian saboteurs could have used the country as an operational base before the explosions. They reached this assumption based on the fact the Andromeda yacht, which could have been used in the attack, had been chartered through a Ukrainian-owned travel agency in Warsaw, and that the suspects arrived at a German port, where they boarded the vessel on a van with Polish license plates, the report claimed.

Government wants suspected murderer of Polish woman in Greece to face trial in Poland

19 june 2023

Poland’s prime minister has announced that his government will seek the extradition of a Bangladeshi man suspected of murdering a Polish woman in Greece. He wants the perpetrator, who is currently in Greek custody, to “stand before a Polish court and receive the highest possible sentence”.

Anastazja Rubińska, a 27-year-old from the Polish city of Wrocław, went missing on 12 June on the Greek island of Kos, a popular holiday destination, where she worked in a hotel. Her disappearance was reported to police the next day by her boyfriend, who works in the same hotel.

Poland’s quest for nuclear weapons on its soil could start World War III, Russia warns

Poland wants in on NATO’s nuclear sharing program after Russia moved nuclear weapons into neighboring Belarus

The Russian government has reacted furiously to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s remarks calling for his country to participate in NATO’s nuclear sharing program, and has warned that such a move would increase the risk of a third world war.

Late last week, Morawiecki appealed to NATO to allow Poland to join the alliance’s nuclear program as a response to Russia placing nuclear weapons in Belarus.

His words caused a storm of protests in Moscow. The deputy chairman of the Duma’s defense committee, Yuri Schvytkin, warned that at best the Polish prime minister’s remarks would result in a spiraling of tensions, “but the worst case scenario was a third world war with the use of nuclear weapons.”

Schvytkin added that NATO was becoming increasingly provocative and that it failed to understand that in an eventual conflict there would be no winners and losers. He said that Russia was a nuclear power in reality and its possession of these weapons wasn’t just to admire them as exhibits.

Poland: Tusk’s about-face on migration tests his credibility, but a third of voters will accept whatever he says

Donald Tusk’s criticism of the ruling party on migration policy may be hypocritical and reminiscent of the behavior of a dodgy car salesman, but he is believed by many voters and his tactics could prove successful, writes Marek Pyza

July 04, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: MAREK PYZA via: WPOLITYCE.PL

The leader of the main opposition liberal Civic Platform (PO) has accepted the advice of a controversial former leader of a political party and businessman Janusz Palikot.

The advice was that to win an election you have to lie, lie and lie again.

The latest example comes with Tusk’s remarks on migration, in which he criticized the conservative government for accepting mass immigration into Poland. It’s a total about-face for him given his previous positions on the issue, but for him, it is par for the course.

He was prepared to accentuate his faith when it suited him and to abandon all mention of it when he wanted anti-Christian votes of the left, even bringing himself to support abortion on demand.

He was once an exponent of tax cuts, but once he entered office, he raised them.

Tusk tried to befriend Putin but now pretends that he was always warning against him.

He opposed social transfers and saw his party hacks stigmatizing those in receipt of them, only later to demand they be increased.

Tusk has often talked of love when he and his party base their campaigning on stirring up hate.

He has been so inconsistent that he should have no credibility left, but he gets away with it because a large part of the electorate, around a third, are prepared to swallow anything he says.

Polish government approves plans to build first nuclear power plant

Plans submitted by the Polish Nuclear Power Plants company have been approved by the climate ministry

July 13, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: FILARYBIZNESU.PL via: FILARYBIZNESU.PL

Plans to build the first power plant in Poland have been approved by the country’s Climate Minister Anna Moskwa, who insists the construction is necessary “to ensure a stable power supply and enhance Poland’s energy independence.”

The green light was given to the Polish Nuclear Power Plants company on Tuesday to proceed with site selection and construction permits, marking a significant milestone for Poland’s energy mix and security.
(...)
Research commissioned by the ministry in November last year showed strong support for nuclear power plants in Poland, with up to 86 percent of Poles in favor of it. Over 70 percent of respondents are willing to have a power plant built near their location.

Poland’s military aid for Ukraine exceeds €3 billion

Poland’s military support for Kyiv has not wavered throughout the conflict

July 26, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: JAKUB PALOWSKI via: DEFENCE24.PL

With the latest installment of Western military aid for Ukraine expected in the coming months, Poland’s military support to Kyiv will exceed €3 billion, according to the Polish defense ministry.

Around €500 million worth of equipment is to be sent to Ukraine in the next three months, and Polish government officials reported it had already provided more than €2.5 billion from donating Leopard tanks, MIG-29 fighter jets, 240 T-72 tanks, 54 Krab howitzers, and a multitude of other equipment and ammunition.

The defense ministry refused to list what the latest military aid package for Ukraine contains, but according to the Wall Street Journal, part of the deal is accounted for by MI-24 helicopters. However, little is known about the delivery of Rosomak armored vehicles that the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki had signaled back in March.
(...)
There can be no doubt that Poland remains an important supplier of military hardware to Ukraine. Even if deliveries are slightly lower than last year, the amount of aid is still on the rise. Moreover, part of this assistance lies in Poland acting as a logistical hub for NATO aid and a training center for Ukrainian troops.

Defamation case brought by judge in NatWest’s LGBT awards thrown out by Polish court

A prominent LGBT activist claimed his reputation had been harmed after being labeled “trash” by a young patriot for opposing Independence Day celebrations

July 28, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: WPOLITYCE.PL via: WPOLITYCE.PL

Bart Staszewski, a prominent LGBT activist and judge in NatWest Poland’s LGBT+ Diamond Awards, has lost his defamation lawsuit against a patriotic youth activist who called him “trash.”

Staszewski initiated legal proceedings against the activist who insulted him for opposing Polish Independence Day celebrations. The youth activist, Mateusz Marzoch, who is a board member of the Independence March Association, was cleared by a Polish court after detailing Staszewski’s past behavior to justify his view.

Staszewski is a prominent anti-government campaigner who was responsible for inaccurately claiming there are “LGBT-free zones” in Poland. This claim can be found in a raft of media stories about LGBT issues in Poland and has even found its way into the European Commission’s rule of law reports on Poland.

The only evidence for the existence of these “LGBT-free zones” was produced by Staszewski photographing himself in front of a sign that read “LGBT-free zone.” Staszewski later admitted he had erected the sign himself as a stunt.

Bart Staszewski was recently one of the judges for the latest edition of the NatWest LGBT+ annual “Diamond Awards” held at the beginning of July. The British NatWest banking group has been at the forefront of promoting the LGBT+ lobby in Poland as the awards’ official sponsor.

Poland may be headed for political gridlock leading to another round of elections

Since the expected kingmaker, the Confederation party, has signaled it will not form a coalition with the ruling conservatives, the country may be heading to another election sooner than anyone thought possible, writes Marek Kęskrawiec

July 28, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: MAREK KĘSKRAWIEC via: TYGODNIKPOWSZECHNY.PL

This autumn’s parliamentary elections in Poland may prove to be inconclusive and lead to another election in the near future.

This last happened back in 2005 when those elections resulted in a minority government formed by the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) and a few months later an unruly coalition with anti-EU right-wing and left-wing populists that ended in early elections in 2007.

The conservatives lost that election despite polling 2 million more votes than they had managed in 2005. The reason for the defeat was that the liberal Civic Platform (PO) led by Donald Tusk more than doubled its vote and was able to create a stable majority with the centrist Polish People’s Party (PSL), which governed Poland for the next 8 years.

Those familiar with the events of 2005 may experience a touch of déjŕ-vu this autumn. Even if PiS gets the largest number of seats, it is unlikely to achieve the overall majorities it won in 2015 and 2019.

That means that PiS will have to seek a coalition with Confederation. The trouble is that Confederation has ruled out that prospect because they fear they would lose support if they were to keep PiS in power.
